Scammell’s Ice Cream Parlor

I would LOVE to give more then 5 stars! We stumbled on this place one night when walking back to our rental house from the beach. It happened to be 9:30pm and the line was out the door. We turned to leave as we heard the guy scooping ice cream start singing «royal» and he could sing! The vibe was off the charts! So we got in line, and then here comes «zues», the store dog. I’m a sucker for dogs! I love these little shops that have store pets! We got around the corner and there stood an old fashion «zoltar» machine, took me back to the movie «big», $ 1 fortunes — couldn’t resist! The line went fast because there was so much to look at! We’ve been there 3x and we’ll be there tonight! Go later when it’s busier and they’re singing and doing FREE raffles (after 9:30). If you DONT check this place out while your here, your SERIOUSLY missing out! My favorite so far this vac! Plus, the ice cream is delicious and they have like 40 flavors!

Great people and surroundings! They are all beautiful singers and are so enjoyable people to be around. My kids love the singer and they love the ice cream. CANT WAIT TO GO BACK !!!

It’s ice cream with a guy singing behind the counter and a dog in the attached surf shop. How can you go wrong?

Great ice cream! Great store! Great entertainment! Loved it! Singing server has a great voice and he would sing songs for all! And prices were great too!

This is by far my favorite ice cream shop ever! The ice cream is Hershey which is the best ever, and the waiters even sing to you while they serve the customers! Sometimes they have a dog (Zeus) there that you can pet while you wait. I would highly recommend going here.

A lot of ice cream flavors and great service. The ice cream was nothing to brag about compared to other ice cream parlors but the workers were very energetic and made the experience worth it.

this place is the best! the ice cream is Hershey’s which is delicious. there is a wide variety of great and unique flavors so there is something for everyone. the guys who own it are so nice. we were here for spring break and only one of them was working the whole week, and every time we came in he had a personal conversation with each of us. this should be a go-​to for anyone in the Nags Head area! Even if you don’t eat ice cream it’s worth stopping by to see the adorable Zeus, the store dog.

Great ice cream place, they didn’t have many options when we went but it isn’t quite ice cream season yet, Zeus the dog is a cutie too :)

Great atmosphere and tasty ice cream. Sweet dog Zeus and the crew sings while you wait which was worth the trip alone. Place was very busy when we arrived at about 8pm but line moves fast and plenty of parking and seating outside.

One doesn’t find Hershey’s ice cream very much any more, but this parlour is stocked with about 30 flavors. It’s excellent.

4 stars because of the no bathroom issue. We’re paying a premium for your ice cream. Don’t force us to walk outdoors to a ports potty.
This could be an awesome place. But respect your customers with a restroom!

Great place, great ice cream and friendly service. Went twice during our vacation and will definitely come back when we are in town. Also– the dog Zeus is beautiful and so friendly.

Very good ice cream. Very good service, including singing servers! Even though the line was long, it was worth the wait! Will return again our next family vacation!

Just visited the OBX last week, and we visited Scammell’s on Father’s Day. They have a great selection of ice cream flavors and options to choose from. After 6pm, there is a singing server. He’s quite entertaining and sings out your name when it’s time to come get your ice cream order. They are connected to a surf shop and there is a sweet dog that you will find walking around from time to time. Can’t wait to go back!

So many flavors it was hard to choose! Great service and a charming place… kids loved looking at all the décor.

You get more than great ice cream here, you get friendly folks that treat you like family. Get a surf lesson on the side!

Owner dude in the ice cream is super personable and went out of his way for us! We pulled up apparently just as he was walking to his car as he had just closed. He saw us and motioned us in and went back in to allow us to buy some ice cream. He easily clouds have ignored us or said he was closed. He didn’t act as though it was any trouble at all. That’s good business! Sorry I didn’t catch your name but thanks again man! Oh and ice cream is great and price very reasonable.

It’s a fun place. Very unique. They have around 50 flavors, a number of them pretty unique. The ice cream itself was ok.
Be prepared for short wait since it can get crowded after dinner.

This isn’t the fanciest ice cream parlor but they serve high quality Hershey’s ice cream in a friendly environment. After 6pm the ice cream scooping guys sing which is a little corny for me but maybe the kids dig it. To their credit, they are good singers and I am impressed with the number of songs Matt knows, especially songs related to candy and ice cream. Scummell’s is organized which helps minimize the after dinner chaos of wound up children.
Now back to the ice cream. Sammell’s has an impressive list of favors ranging from a kid friendly bubblegum to an adult preferred rum raisin. You can get it in a cup or a bowl and the scoops are generous. If you want to goal out, get a sundae. They have tons of topping favors too. There are a few seats inside and several picnic benches outside to enjoy your treats.
