For my birthday I wanted my brother and best friend to go horseback riding with me as part as a 3 day Birthday celebration extravaganza(don’t you know? 24 is a very important year). I called to make reservations and left a message which was promptly returned. When we showed up a couple weeks later for our horseback riding appointment the sun was shining and the horse manure was smelling fresh! The corral is up on White pass and the stables are decorated with old antique looking westerny type things. We were directed to a table where we «signed our lives away» and agree not to sue if we broke a bone or two. I was hoping all day that they would have an «Indian» horse I could ride… ya know the kind that is white and brown and black and… Indian looking? Well they didn’t. I was paired up with my cute horse named Buckey… um like Buck me off Buckey? He didn’t. So we went on the 2.5 hour ride. Through dense forest, across creeks, down almost sheer cliffs… yeah I didn’t know horses would cover such treacherous terrain. We had two trail guides. One in the front and one behind us. It was a blast and the girls were super nice and funny. We even invited them over for buiscuts and gravy the next morning at our cabin in Packwood. They couldn’t make it. It would’ve been 5 stars if the horse that one of the trail guides was training didn’t rear up and jump on the back of my friends horse when it was freaking out because it didn’t want to go across the water. All in all it was the highlight of my birthday trip and quite the adventure. I will definitely be back for more.
