If I am going to knock them on anything it is their operating hours for the public. 12 – 6 only on Saturday and Sunday with no set tour times. Their prices and their people are phenomenal though. The beer marketing of the big muddy monster, pumpkin smasher and bigfoot on the label is what draws you in. The beer flavors are spot on and unique and Nick and Chuck are the reasons you stay and buy more. $ 8 flights for 13 beer samples, ok I am in! They don’t have flight boards which I love they just give you a pint glass and fill each up a quarter full when you are ready. No beers sitting stagnent or getting too warm, everything is right off the tap. I felt like a couple lines were flat but they changed one after we told them. $ 10 growler fills, doesn’t have to be there growler or $ 15 for their growler and a fill. $ 9 for 6 packs or canned 4 packs. Bombers were $ 5 plus? I wish they had a list of what was available and what wasn’t. You just had to ask what they had. I would skip the tour as you stay in the tasting area and it is a short 10 minutes walk through. You can just talk to brewmaster Chuck and ask all the questions you want. He loves talking beer and knows his stuff. They even broke out a couple cans and bottles that they didn’t have on tap for us to try. Awesome! Overall it is very laid back and a great brewery and experience. A must visit if you like beer and are in the area.

If you’re in the area, it’s a must stop. Sadly they are only open on weekends. Great value for the tasting and the taps. Bottled 6-packs are a little pricey though. Bought a growler of Big Muddy Monster for home to use a week later and was just as fresh as coming out of the tap that day.

I’m always excited to experience a brewery I’ve never been to. I’ve tasted Big Muddy’s beer before, but I can’t just jump in my car and drive an hour and a half on a whim. Finally, I made a plan to venture down south to Murphysboro. The location wasn’t quite as remote as Scratch Brewing, but it was a far cry from the urban setting of all the St. Louis breweries I’ve come to know and love. The building looks much like a warehouse and there isn’t anything around it, but you’re minutes away from town(in case you get hungry… they don’t serve food here). This place was packed! Thankfully, we managed to find a few seats and found a menu. I’m a sucker for anything pumpkin, so my first order of business was tasting their Pumpkin Smasher straight from the tap to my glass. It was glorious. I could have sipped on that beer all night, but I wanted to experience a nice spread, so I tried their IPA and Winter Ale. Both were enjoyable, but nothing can top the Pumpkin Smasher. Aside from their lovely array of beer, their prices are the lowest I have ever seen. Three measly dollars for a pint? Yes, please! They also offer several t-shirts and growlers — all nominally priced. This place was definitely worth the trip.

Pumpkin Smasher is back so I brought my growler for a refill. My wife likes the Blueberry Blonde so she has her own Growler. We love this place. The staff is super friendly and the prices are affordable for a micro-brewery. There are several types of beers for you to choose from. I don’t like IPA’s, but they have it too. Good stuff here.

Such a cool, laid back microbrewery! It’s kind of on the outskirts of Murphysboro, with one of the best tasting deals in So.IL. For $ 6 you sample the entire beer range — 9 when we went, with nice sized pours in your full-sized Big Muddy glass, that you get to take home! We also got a tour of the facility, which was short and sweet — but they definitely dove into specifics for some of the beer knurds.

Nice place with great staff but they brew beers I find too fruity. In my opinion blueberries, vanilla, and pumpkin are fine foods. But they don’t belong in beer. The IPA was merely OK. The Big Muddymonster was the best. I doubt I will return.

Decided to make the drive here on a Saturday afternoon. Even though the hours posted showed it closed at three we decided to try it anyway. They were open and made the stop at a very unassuming warehouse type brewery. We were greeted by a great lady who offered up a sampler with glass for $ 6. Typically we are offered around 5 samples but here, NINE! A tour was also offered but we declined. Great explanations of the types of brew and even told of another brewery close by to try. Great service, excellent beer, and a great way to spend the afternoon… we’re already planning a trip back.
