Had I not had an internet coupon, I would have walked out halfway through. The ONLY person who conveyed a hint of warmth, friendliness or ability to listen to the patient was the x-ray technician. The two receptionists were extraordinarily unfriendly before I even arrived. I called to schedule an appointment a week ago, in severe pain from a spinal injury that I’d been managing quite well through chiropractic care(up until about a year ago, when I moved to TN). It had been fine with occasional flare-ups until recently, and when it got bad, I looked around for the nearest chiro. Well, he was the nearest, and that’s about the best thing I can say about him. Apparently severe pain and a spinal injury is not enough to warrant a same-week appointment(although granted, if all their new-patient appointments take this long, I suppose I can understand why that would be the case). After filling out an excessive amount of paperwork(I have seen three chiropractors, none of which have required this much), I was ushered into an x-ray room, where the technician(again, the nicest person there — and she was really awesome) asked me about my history. After over an hour, I finally met the chiropractor, who is apparently unaware of most of the techniques that have been used on me in the past. As we tried to find common ground, he essentially said that he only knew of two or three methods, and there were no others in existence. This was my first red flag regarding him specifically, although if his office staff is normally this unfriendly, it’s a wonder they have any patients at all. Then he gave me a fairly thorough exam to determine what, exactly, hurts — which was a new experience for me, although I went along willingly enough. My second red flag was when he was manipulating my limbs to see if that would cause back pain, and he entirely failed to stop when I told him to. After he was done, he left the room and had the technician take x-rays. Those were fine, no complaints there. After she developed those and left the room, I was left to wait for another half hour. At this point I had been there for two hours, and was getting nervous because, firstly, I’ve NEVER had such a long appointment with a new chiropractor, and secondly, I had something to do in half an hour. During this time I called my first chiropractor, a trusted friend, who told me that I should absolutely refuse an adjustment from this guy. Afterward I tried to find out how much longer I would be kept there, and was met with more disdain and unfriendliness from the receptionists. The chiropractor eventually finished with the patient he was working with, and brought me in to review my x-rays. At this point I just tried to hurry him along, and when they asked me about scheduling an adjustment, I made the excuse of needing new MRIs first, and got the hell out of there. I will not be returning. If this is typical of Tennessee chiropractors, I will seek alternatives for pain management. If he is just counting on getting patients who have never been to a chiropractor and who don’t know what they should expect, then shame on him. His patients deserve better, and should look for it elsewhere.
