My daughter has had the pleasure of attending this school for a few months and we only have good things to say. We are impressed with the professionalism of the school and happy with the curriculum. The teacher, Mr. Yu is very patient and kind to the kids. Initially my daughter was not excited about the class as she prefers a female teacher. But now she loves Mr. Yu and the class. We could not continue the training because of our busy weekend schedule and the commute. But highly recommend to families who live close by and would like their kids to learn and enjoy ballet dance.

Took my 11 yr old daughter to him for a private ballet lesson. Mr. Yu was very professional and gave her lots of constructive corrections. She has had over 5 yrs of ballet, Vagonova method, one yr of pointe work, but he had more than enough pointers and dance sequences in the one hr lesson that she didn’t get around to trying pointe work with him. He was very detailed which she likes. Major down side was he didn’t have any dancers her age/level and we would prefer group classes. Mr. Yu appears very pleasant and dedicated to ballet. We just hope more dancers would discover him so that group lesson is possible at the Mountain View studio.

I started taking ballet 8 years ago, at 22. I stopped, started, and started again. This time, after taking a year off, I am enjoying a newfound appreciation for it. This enamor with ballet is embedded in the delightful teachings of individuals such as Yu Xin. I discovered his class by accident while perusing Zohar Dance Studio’s ballet class schedule. I found he teaches there on Friday mornings at 10am, at Teen Dance Company on Wednesdays, and in San Jose on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My initial experience was very pleasant, very cordial, and he was very enthusiastic. My experience following the class has generated my immediate loyalty: he’s very contented in teaching, yields concise corrections which the intended recipient can identify with, and really enjoys the unique abilities and personality of each of his students. This is a characteristic rarely seen in dance teachers, who usually focus on the dancing, rather than recognizing the dancer. I was shocked to see this is the only adult class with the level of technique and teaching from an ABT-professionally-employed dancer. Personally, I feel ABT is in the upper-echelon of ballet companies in the country, so knowing that Yu Xin danced for ABT(for 6 years) is a personal honour. At the end of his classes, I feel stronger, better-placed, and able to focus on technique. I take beginning-intermediate classes at other schools, but this one holds a unique place in my weekly schedule for the sheer strength-building and corrective ballet experience I look forward to. I highly recommend his class if you’re looking for a ballet class(if you’re a student, working individual, mom, dad) with at least basic technique(ie, more than a year’s training). There are varying levels in the class, at times, and a very cozy atmosphere with the students. Classes are $ 15, but a class card is $ 165 for 12 classes. I chose the class card, since I’m stuck in the electronic age :}
