Truly awful sushi. Unilocal has really dropped the ball on detecting fake accounts and reviews. No way this place is above 2 stars. The rating has clearly been inflated. We ordered 3 *different* rolls, and got virtually 3 *identical* rolls. Same recipe with one ingredient swapped out. Not enough fish in the rolls and really poor quality. Rice is also of low quality and may not be even the right variety as it doesn’t stick together properly. Miso soup served in a coffee cup even though we ate in. Really?

I wish I could find a place in the area with good sushi. I thought this place would be better given it has 4 stars, but I was wrong. The spicy salmon roll and seaweed salad tasted fishy. The tempura shrimp that was inside two of our specialty rolls was pre made and soggy. And there was tons of rice on each roll! I had to remove most of it so that I could actually taste the sushi. Overall, disappointed by the quality of the food.

A gem of a sushi restaurant in South Bay. I have had a hard time finding a good, cheap place to get sushi when I have cravings. I am so thankful that I found this place not too long ago, because there is no other sushi place like it. The sushi is super fresh, very generous portions, and best of all, super cheap! I absolutely love getting takeout sushi from here and would go more often if I could.

Fast food sushi. I’m not a fan of sushi where the tempura is pre-cooked and sitting on the tray; nor fish that is too chopped up beyond recognition. Is it really tuna in the spicy tuna roll?(it wasn’t spicy either!) I ordered the most basic thing here: a sashimi combo. 5 generous slices which I liked, a cup of miso and some rice. $ 15 for that. And I thought SF was overpriced. I’ll stick to Sushi Tomi even if I have to wait.

Oops. 2 stars. This is really just a self-serve, fast-food spin-off of another(up to this point unidentified) sushi place — they get their main ingredients delivered(e.g. the tempura shrimp) and then just put it together to an uninspired sushi roll. Quick and cost saving for the restaurant. The rolls lack flavor, uniqueness, and freshness — if you’re willing to sacrifice all of that for saving a few bucks then please go for it. Otherwise you’re better off at Sushi Tomo on Dana. There seems to be a curse on Castro St — not a single restaurant here has woo-ed me yet, and I’ve tried a few. Sad!

Was hungry for lunch at work so I ordered through the Unilocal/Eat24 app and picked it up myself. I got the Sake nigiri and a miso soup to-go, which is my go-to sushi order when I want something simple. It was delicious! The nigiri had a generous portion of salmon on it that was beautifully cut and marbled, and the perfect touch of Wasabi on it, not too spicy, just a nice heat/flavor. Really high quality salmon too, some of the best I’ve ever had! The price was perfect, a great deal at $ 1.75 each! They waited until I arrived to pack my soup to make sure it was nice and hot. It was packaged with care into a little hot coffee style cup with a hand cozy to keep it from hurting your hands, and a coffee lid so you could drink it from the cup if you want. Overall I was super impressed with not only their prices, but their portion sizes, quality of the food, care with which it is packaged, and the friendliness of the chef! 10/10, I’ll definitely be coming back here! If you like sushi, this is a great place to come eat!

Very disappointed. I had eaten here before and it was alright but I wasn’t disappointed. Tonight I order delivery after paying too much to get it, and waiting an hour and a half(not the fault of anyone but EAT24 and their delivery service), my food arrived. The California Roll was filled with crab that felt like it had gone through s blender and tasted like it came out of a jar. The Spicy Tuna tasted like the meat sat in whatever sauce they use for three days and I don’t mean it in a good way. I couldn’t taste tuna at all. To top it all the rolls fell apart after barely touching them. I hope this was an off day for them but I won’t be going back.

I had low expectations coming here after reading the mixed reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised. — This is a casual order-at-the-counter place. No waiter service. There are several tables, which is plenty of seating since most are probably takeout orders. — Appears to be Japanese-owned, which is unusual considering that they have all the american style sushi rolls. — The quality of the sushi is pretty good. The California roll is made with real crab. — Limited menu, very few non-sushi items. 5 stars — California roll. It is made with *real* crab meat, not imitation crab. I could tell right away, it makes a big difference. 4 stars — Hamachi roll. Good quality hamachi, but skip the sauce. 4 stars — 49er roll(salmon, lemon slices) — Good salmon, but lemon slices could be cut thinner.

I met up with two others who were coming in on Caltrain. They suggested this place based on its reviews. This place was great. The prices are reasonable, the quality of the ingredients are great and the taste was great. I wanted sushi and nigiri. They have some combination meals, but I didn’t see a combo that I wanted, however they let me make substitutions which made it perfect. One friend who had been planning on having sushi went with the ramen instead. The bowl was huge and she loved it. I may have to order that the next time I’m there. I’ll definitely be coming back.

I’m not really sure why the reviews here are so good… I pass this place almost every day, so I finally went to try it. Maybe my expectations were too high since people rave about it on Unilocal. The first bad sign was when they microwaved the tempura for the sushi. I guess because it’s a takeout place, that’s the easiest way. but it definitely defeats the purpose of tempura since it’s soggy. Also, the roll fell apart as I ate it, and was drenched in sauce. The taste wasn’t bad, but it’s not fun to try to eat sushi and it just disintegrates before it gets to your mouth. The pricing is good, but it’s not like this is the best quality to value ratio in Mountain View… I paid the exact same price for sushi at a place down the street that was much better. I’ll pretty much only come here if I’m in a time crunch.

I’m not big on sushi, but my gal is, and it was Mother’s Day, so off we went. The place was clean, the staff attentive, and the service fast. I had the chicken teriyaki and it was a pretty decent sized portion, as was her order. The atmosphere was relaxed and fairly quiet, and I left with a positive feeling about this establishment. I’d go back again!

Best place to get good sushi fast! I like to come here to pick up sushi to go. It is small place. Ordering is at the counter. The prices are reasonable and the rolls are pretty generous. The udon is pretty good, too. The owner is always there and is always friendly. I like how the place is very clean and the kitchen is basically open. The only thing I don’t like is the lack of highchairs. Perhaps not the place for families. I will be back here many times. It is just the kind of place that is perfect for lunch or a quick supper.

Masa Sushi was a huge disappointment… I came here expecting some pretty bomb sushi but left unsatisfied and a empty wallet. The service was good but the food just didn’t come up. I got the Rainbow roll and it was just SO mediocre. I expected so much more because it did cost $ 12.50. Like what?! That’s a lot for a Rainbow roll and it just didn’t seem like it was worth that at ALL. The fish was okay but didn’t taste good or great. The sauce was poorly seasoned and the roll was loose. In conclusion I was just very unhappy with the whole experience because I paid a good price expecting some good sushi but instead left with some sad sushi. 2⁄5 Would maybeeeee come again… Byip Outsies

What. 4 stars?! Tricked me! Sigh once I got to the front of the restaurant I should’ve known to turn away. It kinda looks like an airport sushi place, or maybe a Panda Express sushi version lol. We ordered the in/out salmon sushi roll and the ca roll combo. The imitation crab in the ca roll had such a weird consistency. And I also had some sour pieces. Gross! The in/out salmon sushi roll had some weird squishy salmon pieces and some of sour pieces as well. All in all the restaurant as a whole was pretty clean, but unfortunately I don’t recommend their food. Total was around $ 22 for two rolls

I really like the sushi here. The rainbow roll is so good and worth the extra dollar. I called and 15min later the three rolls were ready to pick up. I also got edamame for free!

Came by for a light dinner the other night and it was a surprising miss… The owner and chef seemed Japanese and was immediately welcomed upon arrival. Started off with the Rainbow roll which was a miss. …I heard microwave sounds during the preparation process… eek?!? The roll was loosely put together and the fish didn’t taste spectacular. The soy sauce was too salty too… :( …I’ve had better sushi down the street at Nijiya Market for a fraction of the price! $ 12.5 for a light dinner, no tax and tip needed. Credit cards accepted.

The Masa model is Chipotle meets sushi … in a cafeteria setting. Does that sound appetizing to you? Well, it’s not. The sushi is all frozen and has lost all flavor in the freezing and thawing process(or at least that’s what I’m attributing it to, since this was the most flavorless fish I’ve ever had). It isn’t well rolled; the rice takes up more than 50% of the roll, has no flavor, and isn’t even well packed so everything kind of falls apart after a few minutes. It comes in a grocery store sushi box, and you get your soy sauce from a dispenser. The second problem is that it’s much more expensive than it should be. It’s grocery store quality sushi at sit down sushi bar prices! The owners need to make up their minds on quality and price and go one way or the other.

Surprisingly good fish quality for a small mostly takeaway place. It came to light that the owner is the same as Masa Sushi on San Antonio near the old Dittmer’s building. Got the shiromagura tataki and a sashimi plate of sake and hamachi. Solid flavors but for spending almost $ 20 I was still decently hungry after. Damn Sushi is such and expensive thing, especially the higher the quality. GOod for a quick fix but not for the big eater unless you plan on throwing down…

I have been waiting for this place to open since I saw the stylish sign and interior being built! They just opened a day ago, and are already very busy for dinner when I went to grab a bite! Masa Sushi Japan is a to-go sushi kind of place. It’s small, with some table seating and stools along the window. It’s modern, clean, and minimal inside. You’re handed your freshly made sushi and sauces in a plastic container and offered a bag and chopsticks, all ready to go! Perfect for people who are looking for a quick sushi meal! Their rolls range from $ 5-$ 15, and they have 1pc nigiri for $ 1.75. They also have some really tempting Sushi Combo deals with 12 pieces of sushi for $ 9-$ 15! That’s a great deal, and sounds super filling, as my 8 piece roll already had me stuffed! I was greeted happily by the owner as he helped the people in front of me at the register. I ordered a Rainbow Roll, and picked it up at the side counter from the on-duty sushi chef! A nice personal touch. The Rainbow Roll sounded like it was loaded with sashimi from the menu! It has slices of tuna, ebi, hamachi, salmon, unagi, and roe on top, with imitation crab and avocado inside. It was on the pricier end, at $ 13.50 for 8 pieces, but it was super filling! I won’t be too harsh on a first review of a newly opened restaurant, but I will say that I would have preferred much larger chunks of fish(they very thinly cut), and a more tightly wrapped roll! Given that they’ve only been open for two days, I am certain things will only improve. In the end, I really liked the clean, bright, modern décor, and the friendly owner at the register. I’d drop by again for a quick sushi run if I’m busy and don’t want to walk all the way across Castro St. to a sit-down restaurant!
