This is the only place in New Mexico(that I know of) that sells broasted chicken and it is really really really good. How good? I had a four piece dinner and then went back to the counter for 3 more pieces. Need I say more? Actions speak louder than words! The chicken is cooked to order and served seriously hot! If you’re in Moriarity, it’s worth the stop. I’m a fried chicken guy and this chicken is great. Not greasy at all-good stuff!

Stopped by for lunch while driving through the area. Ordered the Regular Beef Sandwich dinner with beans and mac & cheese. The sandwich was very large and very good, and the beans and mac & cheese were excellent. Would definitely recommend stopping here!

Dropped by shorty’s on our bike ride across the country. The owners were awesome and staff were incredibly friendly. We were craving pizza and fried chicken so were happy to see that this place offered both! All the food was delicious and this was a fantastic experience! Couldn’t ask for a better filing meal to help us make it to the next city on our bikes.

I’ve told folks for years that Shorty’s has the best BBQ beef I’ve ever had, worth the drive from ABQ. Went in today, got there twenty min before they opened. Was disappointed that the guy inside made me stand out in the cold until they opened. Then I had to wait 20 minutes for them to cook my food. Went to use the bathroom and the toilet seat was filthy, not a good sign when they were just opening for the day! Went to wash my hands and only the cold water worked. Hmm. Finally got my food, and the broasted chicken breast was the most divinely inspired food I’ve ever had. The breading was perfect, the chicken too. All transgressions forgiven!

I called Shorty’s under good recommendation that their pizza was worth trying(I know, pizza at a BBQ place? Yeah, they have it… Weird as that is)… And this is what happened: ME: «Hello, do you all have any pizza specials right now?» PHONEGUY: «Yes, we have a 16″ large with one topping for $ 12.50.» ME: «Ok, I’ll take that. Can I get it with half mushrooms and half green chiles?» PHONEGUY: «Sure. That’ll be ready in 20 minutes.» [20 minutes later] PHONEGUY: «Name?» ME: «Hi, um, Kai, picking up the 16″ one topping special.» PHONEGUY: «Ok, your total will be $ 17.50.» ME: «Ummm… I ordered the one topping 16″ special, so shouldn’t it be $ 12.50???» SUPERVISOR: «Ok, I’ll knock off one of the toppings since you ordered a two topping pizza. That’ll be $ 15.50.» [I think this was his attempt at being nice?] ME: «Ummm… That doesn’t make sense. That’s not what I ordered.» — So I flipped a coin and decided to decline purchasing the pie… What the guy who was in charge there(I’m guessing supervisor; a young kid no older than 22) was trying to say was since they charge per topping(regardless if it’s half or not) I *changed the order* when I wanted one topping half ‘n half — it was no longer the special. Then being the nice guy he is he decided to take my NON-special 16″ pizza and knock off a topping(now one instead of two) hence the $ 15.50… Hm. *****So they failed to mention this over the phone when agreeing to my $ 12.50 special order and didn’t clarify their crazy topping policy via phone either. And what place charges«per topping» when you want a ONE topping half ‘n halfed??***** … Then on the way home I gave them a call, at the time still confused about why he threw out the $ 15.50 number… And thinking I’d give ‘em one more chance since I could already tell they were in the wrong… He still wouldn’t budge, and he never once directly clarified that ordering half this and half that changed the special from what it was to a two topping 16″ regular pizza. I guess«the customer’s always right» mentality definitely doesn’t apply here. Better to lose a first time customer for life rather than just honor the one topping special. Uhhhh lol… Too bad. 1 Star! «Eeeeeeek, methinks not!!!»

Holy broasted chicken! I was expecting a decent chicken meal that would fill me up but what I got was SO much more. Every chicken meal is made fresh to order so it took a few minutes but the wait was well worth it. The chicken had a crunchy light skin with the perfect amount of saltiness and the meat was tender and juicy. I had fried okra and Mac and cheese for my sides which were awesome but I would have preferred just another piece of chicken. I shall return!

The food was very homestyle and full of flavor. The food played second fiddle to the service though. The young lady that took our order was very knowledgable of the menu and helped make suggestions for our younger eaters. We very much enjoyed our experience there and the kids enjoyed the 100+ flavor coke machine!

What a friendly place. We saw the billboard on interstate 40 and decided to give it a try. Boy was that the right decision. I’ve never seen a group if more caring young people working. They really go the extra mile. I had the large beef sandwich and my friend had the large pork. While the pork was solid I would have to go with the beef. They have several different homemade BBQ sauces to pick from. We just stuck with the house sauce. Next time I’ll have to venture out and try something different. If you’re traveling and sick of fast food chains give Shorty’s a try. You’ll be glad you did!

We stopped here on our way back home in the midwest after a long day of driving, the owner of the Sunset Inn recommended the place, boy what a surprise. My wife and I both ordered the broasted chicken with two sides and I must admit we haven’t had good chicken since leaving the midwest until now. This was the best chicken we have had for years and the sides were equally good. We enjoyed it so much we stopped again on our way back home to have the chicken a second time, good job Shorty, keep up the good chicken, thanks.

Stopped once and have not returned to Shortys. Last visit we ordered the ribs and sandwiches. They tasted like burned trash– literally as if the cook had burned household trash in the same smoker he uses for the meat. Not impressed– will not return.

Well I was was than impressed. Friendly people. Fair prices. But not the best food. I guess for the area, it’s good. But it was just lackluster for me. Lunch with co-workers, four people, $ 30… Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Glad to support the community, but yeaaaa that’s it…

I’m shocked at the good reviews. We’ve given this place several chances and frankly it’s just not all that good. I make way better at home. The owner and employees just don’t have good customer service either. I’m tired of being disappointed in their food.

If you are looking for some lunch and driving down Rt. 40 this might be the stop you want to make. My wife and I had the combo platter of pork and beef. The pork was wonderful, beef ok. We were both on a diet and did not take the counter suggestion of the broasted chicken which was a mistake from looking at others plates. I hate New Year’s resolutions regarding calories.

On our way from California to Texas, and saw the sign along the freeway. Stopped in for dinner and it was great! Highly recommended! Worth the stop! We both had sliced pork dinner! Lots of good food!

We were craving BBQ and my hub wanted to go to Shortys. so we hopped in the car and drove from Albuquerque to Moriarty. We didn’t have much to do today… and I was down to try some good BBQ. Wow! This place is pretty good! I actually had the chicken fried chicken, bbq beans, and mac n cheese. The chicken fried chicken was EXCELLENT. I wanted to like the bbq beans and mac and cheese. The potential was there… and I ate them, but I think they needed a little more flavor(just a tad!). My husband and friend had the BBQ pork and beef sandwich. The regular size is HUGE. I’d guess about 12 inches. There was also a large size available… and I kind of wonder how big that one is! The BBQ sandwiches are really good. They were on fresh baked bread. Yummo! So if you are in Moriarty, this is a great place to stop by if you are cravin’ some BBQ!

This place has the best broaster chicken ever! Just east of Albuquerque and the Sandia Mts on old route 66. Don’t know what broaster chicken is? It’s chicken that is deep fried under pressure. This is one of the few restaurants left in the U.S. that still fries there chicken this way and it is well worth the trip! Their BBQ and other items are decent. Not the best and not the worst, but the chicken will knock your socks off!
