El Comedor is the name on the building. Whatever they call it, that was a genuine wow. Authentic native indian fry bread, a hatch chili sauce and an outstanding home made salsa. Service was excellent. Bill for 2 was $ 14 and neither of us could finish our portions. Just wow.

Apparently, they’ve gone out of business. The name on the sign at this location says«El Comedor De Anayas»

When dining in Moriarty, your choices are a little limited. This is one of the local establishments that has been around since forever in one incarnation or another. There’s a lot of old photos on the wall, it takes pride in being a part of the local community. Menu is full of pretty standard New Mexican diner fare: chicken strips, enchiladas, hamburgers, etc. I had the strips, and they weren’t bad. Looked to be hand-breaded, and the gravy was pretty good. Nice staff. Again, it’s a local-oriented place and just about everyone knows each other from way back. Lots of smiles, but they’re not really in any hurry.

While traveling, I have had several good meals in Moriarty; in particular the steak and flat enchilada dinner at Buford’s has been a favorite. Recently we were passing through and were looking for something quicker and cheaper, so we stopped in at the Breezy Rain Café. There were a lot of cars in the lot, which is usually a good sign. It turns out the cars were there for a local function in the banquet room. The dining area was empty, not a good sign. but it looked like a nice place so we sat down anyway. It seemed better when a few parties arrived after we were seated. I was excited to see Flat Enchiladas on the menu and two of us ordered those; one with the red sauce and one with the green. The third ordered a Hamburger. None of these dishes were acceptable. Both of the enchiladas were served barely warm with uncooked tortillas. The beef filling was okay, but nothing special. Both sauces were abysmal and tasted canned. The lettuce tasted like it was the bagged kind with the nasty bitter so-callled ‘natural’ preservative. The cheese and tomatoes were fine, but by then who cares. The beans were obviously canned, and the spanish style rice clearly came from a box and was flavorless. Our friends hamburger was not any better. On top of the poor food, the service was terrible. I hate to blame the brand spanking new waitress because she was left alone with little or no training. I guess the experienced servers were in the banquet room. Suffice it to say, we will not be back, and cannot recommend it, When in Moriarty, try Buford’s first.

I was a little nervous ordering off the new portion of the menu where they seemed to randomly add some Mexican dishes. I got the steak and cheese enchiladas and although the steak was overcooked it was still juicy(I prefer medium rare) and the enchiladas were AMESOME! I was so pleased; great sauces and cheese and just very well balanced. The dessert type thing that came with was delicious too. It came with honey packets but I ate it plain because I thought it was sweet enough naturally. Yum! Highly recommend. My husband had a burger and said it was great too plus the service was outstanding and sincerely friendly. It was only $ 20 for both of us to eat.
