APM Custom Engines

Felix has rebuilt several heads, E Type Jaguar, Stag and TR3. He has always done an excellent job and I am glad to refer all my friends to APM. Felix and Steve know their business and I trust them implicitly. I’ve proudly done business with them since 1997.

This is an old review, but when APM did my engine, there was no internet.
20 years ago I was 17 with a small block chevy I saw sitting in my neighbors yard and bought for $ 50 and a 74 K5 blazer I bought from my grandpa for $ 600. I wanted an engine that would last. I disassembled the engine and took the parts to APM. They not only did they rebuilt it, but they took the time to explain to me what they were doing and taught me about small block chevys. My budget was limited — coyote valley clays is fun but they don’t pay much — and they worked with that.
The engine survived. I put it through a lot during my 20s. Lots of full throttle acceleration. Hard pulls through the sierras to snowboard and then to work. Lots of high speed freeway. Everything from 30″ to 38″ tires. 4,500rpm dirt road all day long. And, then 10 years without starting and parked in a carport during my 30s. Last week I pulled the plugs, oiled the cylinders, changed the oil, and fired it up and took the wife and kids for a ride around the block. The oil pressure is good and it started right up. Sounds like it has good compression. The kids loved it.
I have been nothing but happy with this engine. When it was built they said, we had some free time the other evening and worked on your engine for something to do. You will be happy with this. Someday I’ll open that engine up and see what is inside.

Fast turn around time. Great prices. I have been going here for over 13 year and I will continue to come here for all my engine machine work. Never had a problem with my parts. Everything always comes back like new.

Please stay away at all costs. This place is not worth going to. They are indeed fast but for good reason. I had a SR20 motor that was fully built and I made 430rwhp. I had some issues and needed the head cleaned because I found some metal in the motor. They said they cleaned it out and did everything. It took me about 6 months to recoup from all the other parts that I needed to rebuild the motor. When I put it all together and ran the car for two weeks something just wasn’t right. I had the head inspected and there was still metal debris EVERYWHERE! I had to go back and buy a lot of components AGAIN. Since it was so long I didn’t even bother going back to them and even if I did what are they going to do? Cover my parts (over $ 1500 – 2000) when I only paid like 250 – 350 to get the head cleaned. I highly doubt it. Plus it took me awhile to get the motor back up and running again. Either way I would have saved a lot of money going somewhere else which I will gladly share with anyone in a private message.
Because of this mess, I had to buy new cams three times. New pistons, rods, lifters, rocker arms, valve guides, valve seals, oil pump twice! I had to get a new head, crank, block, valvetrain, valves too. I also lost the port on my first head and couldn’t afford to have it ported again. All in all this was a bad experience. Many things led to not having my motor but this would have been the ultimate factor.
You can only do so much and depend on places like these to know what they are doing so you can get the rest up and running. I would look elsewhere and pay more if you need too.
