For unequaled beauty of location and exquisite views of the Snake River and Teton Mountains, Moose Head Ranch is where to go. And if you love horses and horse-back riding, then Moose Head has got that covered too. Loads of horses in the corral will take you for a nice ride. Bird-watchers will enjoy the variety of feathered friends such as swans, cranes, eagles, hawks and songbirds. Fisherman can cast their lines in the 6 well-stocked trout ponds but fishing is on a catch-and-release basis only or you can fish the famous Snake River out your cabin doorstep. How awesome is that? I found out about Moose Head Ranch from a fellow tourist in Yellowstone. She works at the Ranch in the summer and when we stopped by, I was overcome with how absolutely wonderful this place is. Yes, it is a little bit outside of town but when you roll down the dirt road, it is like you are entering a different time and certainly a different pace. Accordingly, Moose Head Ranch was originally homesteaded in 1925. Back then, the mountain-rimmed valleys were the stomping grounds of local Indians and the occasional fur trapper or hunter. The high elevation of 6,870 feet and remote locale nestled within the boundaries of Teton National Park did not see many travelers coming through for a vacation. In fact, even now, the only signs of mankind are a two-lane highway that leads to the ranch and the Jackson Hole airport located 18 miles south. Enjoying the pristine location and crisp mountain air is easy enough. Many of the guest cabins are located along the Snake River & offer a panoramic view of the majestic Grand Tetons in the distance. Sitting on your front porch, do not be surprised if a doe and fawn wander by or a moose munches horsetails in the creek. It makes for a very tranquil and serene feeling to be one with nature like this. There are 40 log cabins offered here – in small or family-sizes. Being among the aspen, cottonwoods, spruce and pines ain’t cheap but it is the kind of vacation that will truly build wonderful and lasting personal and family memories to last a lifetime. You can even get hitched at the Moose Head Ranch and start off your married life in the majesty of God’s country! 5 UnilocalSTARS for that!
