JL Beers is hands down my favorite place to go in FM. Any location, but we’ll cruise over to Moorhead(even from South Fargo) because they have a little more seating than other locations. Humpty Dumpty is a classic. House-cut fries with the R dip, too! Or, order it to go.

The Humpty Dumpty burger was the BEST burger EVER! The service was top notch and I’m looking forward to going back!

I came back after writing my initial 1-star review. I initially gave it 1 star because I felt like we were nickle and dimed to death without warning and the food was nothing special. Coming back a second time I knew better. I wanted to try some beers this time, but I’m not much a craft beer drinker and I told the waitress what I liked. She gave me samples of several beers and said I can try as many as I want. I found one I liked and enjoyed my time there. If I go back again and find they are more up-front about fries and sauces costing extra, I will consider raising my rating further.

I had plans to go to the NE location, but, the woman told me there were a few up in Fargo/Moorhead, so we could knock it off the list while we were up there for a roadtrip. Very small as I’m told most are. Service was great throughout, very friendly staff here and helped with the menu questions that did come up(especially with fries and dips and what not). I opt for the 2nd Ave burger with an extra patty, while she goes with her normal Great American with bacon. We decide to split the sea salt fries. The 2nd ave is a bbq/bacon burger with cheese. Hers is your basic burger with added bacon. Very short wait which allowed us to send some Beer Mail to family. Gotta love post cards! Food arrives, and it looks solid. This is your basic, good tasting, dive bar burger. There isn’t much more to say about it. Good beef, good cheese, solid sweeter bbq, and the bun doesn’t fall apart on ya. Was it an amazing burger? Nah. Was it a good one? You bet your ass it was. Next time I’m in the area will I stop again? If I’m craving a burger hell yeah I will. Fries were done really nicely. A little more on the over done side, so they weren’t mushy at all. Sea salt was lightly added instead of making it a salt lick. Overall a solid place to grab a burger, watch a game, hang out for a bit, and enjoy a ton of taps. Good shit JL, good shit.

They say this is one of the best burger joint in town. They would be right. The only 2 problems I have is one not much room and 2. Too much of a car and not a restaurant. Not kid friendly and no free refills. You want water you pay for it. Bad. Otherwise service is good. The people working there are great and the burgers and fries and chips are very delicious.

When I went to JL beers today I was very impressed with the atmosphere but that was about all. We waited maybe a full 10 – 12 minutes before the waitress ever approached our table. After being completely decided on what to order, she informed us that we would not be able to eat since we were not 21. We left without a problem, however she made absolutely no offer to even let us order our meal to go, or that we could sit outside. Extremely disappointed and will not be coming back to service like that next month when I am «old enough» to eat there.

Being from Milwaukee we have nothing like this. I drive 7 hours to see my girlfriend out here and beg her to take me to JL Beers. I have yet to go to any of the other JL Beers locations in the Fargo Area, but I find that I don’t have to. The Moorhead location has a very knowledgeable staff including a man named Chris who knows exactly what beer tastes like what the name of it is where it Comes from, and he can engage you in conversations about beer. He isn’t a record that plays when you ask questions about beer he is genuine and wants you to have a good time. The food is simple Americana. Burgers, fries and chips. I love their burgers, and the fries. JL Beers isn’t trying to be something they are not, with a limited menu they focus on quality over quantity, burgers are good and fries are great. With an excellent selection of beer, you can’t go wrong. I love just sampling new beers and finding things that I did not ever know I like. Thanks to Chris I’ve found out I like stouts and porters. Instead of the old standby coors. JL offers beers on tap, bottles, cans, and even larger bottles of craft beer. That unfortunately you cannot sample. But everything on tap you can sample. On Tuesdays JL offers Randall Tuesdays where they infuse their beer with flavors. I have yet to try it but from what I have heard and seen it looks incredible. If you would like to see this go to the JL beers Instagram. They detail their Randall’s on there. JL Beers is my favorite location in the Fargo area, let alone all time. The simplicity of it draws you in. The staff is inviting, knowledgeable and friendly. Send your friends Beer Mail while there and try new beers that you have never had before. Big shoutout to Chris the best bartender in Fargo-Moorhead. 10⁄10 would eat again.

Best burger I have ever had! Awesome service! Food was there in less than 10 minutes! Tasted as many beers as we wanted! Can’t wait to go back!

Jl beers is awesome! As with most places, there are a few pluses and minuses. First of all, if you plan to go with a large group, it will be very difficult to find seating. A group of four is ideal, as they only have a few tables that seat 6. The beer selection is huge and changes all the time. There is beer from all over the world, including a decent local beer selection. You can sample anything before buying. They do charge for water and don’t serve anything else besides bottled water. However, with a giant beer selection, why order water? :-) The beer is not the cheapest, but a lot of people don’t mind paying money for good beer. The burgers are amazing! I enjoy the humpty dumpty and the ragin cajun. Everything is fresh including the potatoes which they store in a barrel and cut when you order. The food selection is quite small, so if you are looking for a full menu with lots of choices, you might be disappointed. But if you are looking for great burgers, cold beer and a nice atmosphere, Jl beers may be a good fit for you!

What a joke, sat down with wife and 17 year old son and cocky waiter says to my son can I see your ID. And we said why and he said they are 21 and over– BS business model — no wonder they were practically empty when other places around packed. I can take a 2 year old to hooters but need to be 21 for this crap place– will never patronize with or without my son– zero if I could. Went across street to Grizzly’s as we were from out of town and traveling through Fargo– loved it– they did us a favor– and got my money.

Never been disappointed with my orders. Their beer cheese dip and their fresh cut chips are to die for.

Burgers are pretty decent, the fries and the tater chips that were fresh cut were tasty. Decent beer selection as well. However my beef is that we went there for lunch — and i just wanted some water — tap water to drink, no biggie right? Well you can only buy bottled water there. This is silly because all they have to do is intall a filter apparently and the owner is too cheap to do that? I’m not really sure what the deal is — never heard of a restaurant not having water for customers to drink if they want it. I totally understand if you only serve water upon request because you don’t want to waste resources — but this definitely wasn’t the case. Anyways, I ordered a Crispin because i didn’t want anything heavier — oh btw — the crispin was served WITHOUTICE because they don’t have a filter thus they cannot have ice either. Not awesome. Btw — to the sweetheart that apparently works there and was pissed I didn’t give them a good review — this is how you serve Crispin — over ice — weird — right? And if you can’t click the link — here is straight from Crispin’s website: No one has sacrificed more in the name of refreshment than the humble ice cube, and Crispin — designed to be enjoyed over a glass of fresh ice — recognizes its partner in refreshment and appreciates the willingness to serve.

Really great burgers, and a variety of them at that. They make homemade straight from the potato to chips and fries. The chips are very good, but they seem to be the best when Amelia is working, because they are cooked to perfection! I highly suggest the cajun chips with the cheese sauce. YUM. Oh, and by the way, all of their sauces are homemade! The bbq, cheese, everything! It’s pretty impressive considering they must be a very high volume establishment with all the business. ALso the Moorhead location is a bit bigger than the downtown location, and usually not so packed, so it’s perfect for hanging out for lunch and tossing back a few delicious brews!

As good as the location in Grand Forks, without being in the hellhole that is Grand Forks. Good burgers, great beer, good staff.

Got some burgers to go, and they were delicious. We got the fried egg and cheese burger. They have a lot of beers on tap, but I don’t like beer, so I can’t say much about that, The dining room is pretty tightly packed, the chairs are all the high ones, and there’s no place to just hang out really. They charge extra for lettuce, tomato, etc on the burgers, but they are really good. And the ambiance is nice too. I recommend them!
