Where to start? Their website states the best way to prepare for a spray tan is to stay moisturized. It does not say to remove all moisturizer before a spray tan… so I needed to go home, shower, and return. I was using the free coupon from their website but they said it would be $ 5… when I questioned that, they said they really didn’t recommend the free options, so… I coughed up my $ 5. With only minimal instruction on how to apply the barrier cream, I got started. Three fourths of the way through, the machine stopped and told me to contact the attendant. Problem is, I was stark naked, with only a hand towel. I tried to crack the door and call someone, but got no response. I got dressed, still wet with the solution, and found an employee. She didn’t know what to do! I had to wait for a manager who could not figure it out. She finally decided to do an airbrush tan, something I found very uncomfortable, but I really didn’t know what else to do. The tan was uneven, quite orange, just a real mess. I actually had to change what I was wearing to a wedding the next day to cover up as much as I could.

I was doing some research on Mystic tanning as an alternative to regular tanning for an event I have coming up. As I am not particularly a fan of damaging my skin, Mystic tanning seemed like the perfect alternative. I’d never tried this method for tanning before and wasn’t sure what to expect as far as results go. A Google search for Mystic tan locations in my area found Sunkissed as the closest salon, AND offered a link to a coupon to receive a free Mystic tanning session. At this point I had nothing to lose, so off I went. First of all, those not familiar with Montgomery should know that«Eva Street» is local-speak for FM105, so basically if you’re coming from I-45 turning onto FM105 will take you straight where you need to go to find the salon. It’s in a shopping center located just to the left of Brookshire brothers, about two or three shops down from the Woodforest Bank. I believe the marquee only says«TAN» but when you drive closer«Sunkissed» is on the windows of the shop. The first thing I noticed was how exceptionally clean this place is. I was greeted by Belinda who took care of my paperwork and cheerfully advised me of their salon services and also let me know that they offered airbrush tanning since I told her I was interested in sunless options. She was extremely knowledgeable and advised me of two different color options for my skin tone. I opted for the darker option, which was a «premium» color for an additional $ 5 charge. She let me know that when I come in and choose a premium color such as this that there is an additional $ 5 charge for each session, since I told her I was planning on coming back in about two weeks. She led me to the Mystic tanning room(pointing out the airbrush tanning room on the way) and showed me everything I would need to know for my session. I was shown how to apply barrier lotion to my hands and feet, how and where to wear the shower cap, and how to stand and position myself in the booth to achieve the best tan possible. She also let me know what to expect afterwards, that I would leave with a nice golden glow that would gradually deepen over the course of a few hours. She left me to it, and I followed her prep instructions and went into the booth. The Mystic tan room at Sunkissed is very clean and organized. There is a little dresser with a mirror that holds the containers of barrier lotion, facial wipes, and various apparatuses for use while inside to booth like goggles and a hair cap. There is also a pretty laundry basket to place your used towels in, and a full length mirror for admiring your results. The whole Mystic tanning process takes only a few seconds(I was told 90). The booth has little footprints labeled with numbers where you place your feet., and waving your hand in front of a little green sensor starts the process. An automated voice instructs you on where your feet should be placed and when to adjust. I barely felt the fine mist being sprayed onto my body, and only needed to hold my breath for the half second that my face was sprayed. When it was all over, i stepped out of the booth and could immediately notice the difference. My entire body had a nice glow to it, and no tan lines! I was surprised at how dry my skin was, I wasn’t dripping or anything and could pretty much immediately redress. Aside from feeling the slightest bit sticky(as is to be expected with any kind of sunless tanning product, really), I felt like a bronzed goddess. Overall I was very pleased with the service, especially considering I was there for a free session. I would definitely recommend Sunkissed for its cleanliness and friendly service and will most assuredly be going back!
