My husband and I try to make a couple extended weekend getaways to Monterey each year. We always stay at Portola Hotel, which is directly across the way from Sovino Wine Bar. In fact, when we first began frequenting Sovino Wine Bar it was under different ownership and name. The bar has a great concept and an amazing location. The disappointing part about our last trip to the wine store was the fact that our tasting fee(which it was just one of us that tasted) wouldn’t be waived if we bought a bottle of wine that we enjoyed, which was around $ 50. In the end they made $ 10 off of us instead of $ 50+. Not a very good business move on their end.

My husband and I recently stopped in at this great wine bar while visiting Monterey for the weekend. What a great spot! The ambiance and atmosphere is classy yet comfortable and the wine selection is fantastic. Best of all, the owner, Claire, and general manager, Jason, are both very knowledgeable, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. We’ll absolutely be coming back next time we’re in town!

I had a great experience at Sovino on a Saturday night while visiting Monterey for the weekend with friends. Ideal for both large and small groups. We showed up with a group of 11 and the service was great! Plenty of comfortable seating and friendly staff.

The wine was amazing. Both Claire and Jason offered impeccable service and made our experience very enjoyable. I will definitely be returning to this wine bar when I visit Monterey again. Chin chin.

We stopped in for a glass of wine before strolling down Alvarado Street for dinner. Claire, the proprietor, is delightful and the happy hour prices and pour size are a real value! We will definitely stop in on our next trip.

Poor management and rude employees. Had ongoing issues trying to plan a private event. The owner, Claire, didn’t even have the courtesy to return my phone call after she cancelled our event which was planned 6 weeks prior. Very disorganized! Will not be returning!

Favorite place in Monterey. Everyone is so warm and friendly, it’s the perfect place to grab a glass of wine(tons of options) and read a book.

Claire and Jason were great hosts and I had a lovely time joshing with them a few evenings recently(and I’m usually a whisky not a wine man). Also I can recommend the light tasty meals they provided which were almost the only meals I had in my two weeks in America(I’m a damned foreigner) where I didn’t feel overstuffed and slightly unwell afterwards. Also the selection of artisan beers were well worth sampling. I was so impressed with the atmosphere that they have created that I’m putting them in my latest book and happy to write a great review so they don’t sue me.

Yikes!!! The Pinot Noir we had was awful! After a day of wine tasting in Carmel — don’t go here!!!

Very good selection of local wines. The hostess was very personable and knowledgeable about wine and things to do. Light fare is available to compliment your tasting. A nice classy shop not far from the touristy craziness of old Fisherman’s Wharf.

This is a great place to come and hang out and taste wines if you are in Monterey. Their tasting menu of $ 10 for 5 wines is such a great deal! The«bar-tender» we had was super nice. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. We came with some friends before going to dinner and enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely come back! In fact, if they had snacks, it would be a great place for a happy hour or something along those lines.

$ 10 for 5 wine tastings. If you check in on Unilocal you get a buy-one-get-one voucher. 5 wines for $ 5 is not bad! The lady working was very very friendly but not the most knowledgeable when it came to their wines… but she was funny and sweet and we had a good time.

We really enjoyed tasting many wonderful, small lots of local varietal wines. The service was excellent and the location perfect. We enjoyed meeting the mother(artist) of the owner, who took great care of us. The checkin offer was generous so we could taste most of the wines, and the discount on a great Cab Franc provided a perfect wine for our 30th anniversary dinner at Montrio Bistro where they waived the corkage fee! We highly recommend this lovely wine bar/shop.

Oh man, traveling from LA we were in need of a glass of wine in Monterey. Wine from the Heart had great reviews and was near our hotel, so my boyfriend & I decided to check it out. We were not dissapointed. Claire, the owner, made us feel like we were old friends chatting about our days & life in her living room. We had the 5 flights for $ 10(great deal!). It was a breath of fresh air after a night in LA(literally and figuratively). Thanks the good wine & conversation Claire, it was much needed :).

This is great place to take a break from all the great tourism Monterey has to offer. Relaxed with a glass and some friends before heading the dinner on Alvarado St. Staff is kind and positive and easy to talk to. I really loved that they focus on Central Coast wines! Make sure to grab a spot by the window for people watching!

This is now my spot. By that I mean I come here a few times a week to have a glass of wine and study. I’ve met the entire staff and everyone is warm and personable. The wine selection is substantial and very local. It is a very cozy and inviting place and the happy hour prices can’t be beat. If you come in during the week, be sure to say hi. I’ll be on the couch with a glass of wine and a few Chinese books.

This was an adorable wine tasting bar on the main street in Monterey. We stopped in and were lucky enough to get the BOGO tasting with our Unilocal checkin. The wines were tasty, and most were local, which is always nice. Our server, Christina, was knowledgeable and very friendly. As well as a bar, they have a few tables where you can sit and they will bring the tastings to you. They also had board games available. We got there during happy hour, so we had a small plate at half price. For about $ 15 bucks we each got five tastings and a nice hummus plate. We were very happy with our experience, and would definitely visit again.

I stopped in here for a tasting with my husband on a recent Saturday afternoon. We were the only ones in the shop, so we got some good personalized service. You get a free tasting when you check in on Unilocal,so we both were able to sample wines for $ 10. You can also purchase by the glass and bottles. Service was friendly, the mood was comfortable and the location was excellent. If you’re looking for some time to kill and want to sample some delish local-ish wines I’d recommend this place.

A nice little tasting room right by the wharf. I loved the Unilocal deal(2-for-1 tastings). We tried 5 different wines each for $ 10. They had a bunch of local wines to taste and we bought several favorites with the 10% off deal also on Unilocal. They also have a happy hour deal till 6pm, I believe it was half of glasses of wine. The two bartenders were both nice and gave us a few local dinner suggestions. They were very knowledgeable about the local wine region and town. I am glad we stopped here on our first night so we could go to their recommendations throughout our weekend. The wine shop itself is very cute. They have nice wine inspired decorations and all of the bottles we saw seemed to be special, certainly not your average grocery store selection.
