Went here tonight for dinner, and my first impression was not that great, but in the end I’m glad we went. The décor in there is… interesting… It seems dated but then again kind of cozy and homey. Maybe like your grandma’s house. Prices are a bit high, but we got out of there for under $ 30 including a tip and fed our family of 3(plus some). And the gentleman serving us(the owner I assume) gave us an apple juice for our toddler(on the house). He made conversation with the other customer that was there, but didn’t hang around us too much– which I appreciated, trying to wrangle the hungry kid. We had a pepperoni pizza and it was great, thin crust and flavorful sauce. It took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait.

As we were leaving an office down the street, my daughter spotted this pizza place and wanted to try, so we did. I am really undecided about this place! I would say it has«charm» because it reminds me of the pizza places on the east coast back in the day, but that is also another way of saying, it is very outdated. I feel like I stepped back into the 90’s! Now, I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing. It was actually very nostalgiac, from the plastic floral table cloths to the fake flowers. We came in at 11 and they must have just opened the doors because there wasn’t a soul in sight. I called out and a man came right away to take our order. We each ordered by the slice, and I wondered how long it would take since I could see clearly back into the kitchen and there was no sign of life or movement, or even an oven pre-heated, and no aroma of pizza wafting through the air. Our order took about 10 minutes and while it was good, it may have been reheated from the night before. When I ate it, I actually thought, «This pizza must be awesome straight from the oven» because the dough is obviously homemade and the ingredients were delicious. It just felt like I was eating delicious leftover pizza at my grandma’s house. :) I might try to come back during an actual lunch hour next time instead of so early and ordering a whole pizza…

This is a place of strong positives and strong negatives, so I’m going to write this review in plus/minus format. + The owner is really, really nice. English clearly isn’t his first language, so he’s not super talkative, but he’s really polite, and if you engage him in conversation, he’s very amicable. — It’s a misnomer. The food takes a really long time to come out, but that’s because… + The food is fresh, made-to-order, and pretty authentic(what I’ve tried so far, at least). Apparently his mom cooks some of the dishes. — It’s pricey for what it is, especially the pizza. Bottom line: if you don’t mind waiting and paying a little extra for family-run charm, it’s not a bad place to drop by for some pizza, pasta, or subs.

I run errands all day and take the shortcut driving up Soledad to get to PG from Monterey. I stop at Monte Vista sometimes(for old times sake) and have been meaning to stop into Pronto’s. I really wanted to love this place. I was excited to see a sign for ‘slice of pizza”. I was so bummed. The service was sweet and they were very welcoming and kind. But when I got my zlice of pizza it was flat hard and had barely any sauce in it. Now I like my pizza juciy and even though I don’t like greasy food, I don’t mind if there is a little grease from the cheese(You can always«pat-dry it» with a paper towel if necessary) but this slice was bone dry. I just got plain since I only walked in with 4 bucks and a debit card. Well if I wanted a few toppings it would have been more than $ 4 for a slice. Not lovely. Also, I was getting over a cold and my taste buds were off… I’m hoping… since it tasted like there was a bit of Blue Cheese on my slice… and you know what that means. I think this cute little pizzeria could do great. If they put a little more of that love they have for the customer into the pizza. Some more sauce and bubbly cheesy pizza wouldn’t hurt. I loved the thinness of my slice just wished they would kick it up a notch.
