Took a group in for lunch. The very well staffed hostess counter couldn’t set a table though the restaurant was empty. No wonder. Asked several times to little avail and finally gave up after they couldn’t get it together. No manager available to even discuss poor reception. Terrible.

I chose a Portobello Mushroom and grilled vegetable sandwich with sweet potato tater tots. The food was well prepared and the three dipping sauces added a nice touch. Our waiter, Carlos, was helpful with suggestions and attentive without being intrusive. The house made sausages were paired with spatzel, red cabbage, and cornuchons. You can also get Peter B’s beers to accompany your meal. Try the flight so you can sample before a final choice.

It is quite a few minutes away from the tourist centers but perhaps the best location for lunch or dinner in Monterey. Delicious Tacos and perfect ice-cake together with very friendly and convincing service. For sure: It’s not the cheapest one.

Great brewery to visit when in Monterey. Awesome atmosphere, great service, good beer, and good food! Their garlic fries were awesome and their array of beer selection was awesome! Definitely will go back every time we visit. Highly recommended!

Went here while on vacation in Monterey. Service was really good but that was about the only good thing about this place. Food was too deep fried for our liking and honestly didn’t have any taste. I had the fish and chips and my wife had the BBQ — both bad choices in our opinion. It’s a good place to sit back with a beer to watch some games but that’s about it.

I came here this week and it was busy due to the Warriors game… I had to wait about 15 min to be seated. I had the Swedish Meatballs w/mashed potatoes and veggies, and it was really good. I tasted their fish & chips too and I’ll order that next time. The potato salad was tasty, and I heard the nachos are great! They give you generous portions, which is what I love because I can throw down some food. Bathrooms are clean-which can say a lot about a restaurant. Only thing I didn’t like was that there’s only one stall! Our waiter was great, and they even let us move to a quieter section(that was about to close) because of all the noise from Warrior fans. I’ll be back!

Whenever I make my way over to Monterey from the south county, I always have to make a stop in! You seriously can’t beat the atmosphere and the awesome food and beer selection. I’m not a huge craft beer guy, meaning I don’t go out looking for it, but I do love their selection. It’s always something new, and you can even choose from a variety of alcohol levels depending on what you might be comfortable with. My favorite are always the blondes, they done have a high alc rating(usually a 5%) but the taste is what I’m looking for. The fish and chips are the best in my opinion, so give that a try, along with the deep fried artichoke hearts and garlic fries. If you just can’t get enough of this cool little spot, they even sell merchandise by the hostess table, next to the bathrooms. This is a must go if you’re visiting Monterey for any length of time. Plenty of TV’s with the games on, and like I said earlier, a great beer selection.

Great beer, food, and location. The sampler is awesome: five four oz flights for $ 7.5! Happy Hour is 4 – 6:30 everyday!

Part of the Portola Hotel. Happy Hour brought discounted appetizers and drinks that’s why we ordered the following… SWEETPOTATOTATERTOTS: So addicting. Served with a Green Goddess Aioli. Crispy on the outside and THEWINGMAN: Buffalo Wings in hot sauce served with celery sticks and blue cheese. MONTEREYBAYCALAMARI: Not in ring form. But at least, it was cooked perfectly The batter was crispy and the meat was fully cooked but was not over cooked hereby turning it into rubber. CHICKENQUESADILLA Chicken in flour tortilla with jack cheese, pico de gallo, guac, and sour cream. There was not wait to get in. Parking structure catty corner to the rear of this restaurant is cheap and open at night. Plenty of TVs to watch whatever game is playing at the time.

Great beer, great food, great happy hour and great service w JESSE F. He was very attentive, kind and had a great customer service attitude. We’re from the Bay Area, but will definitely be back! We ordered the chicken strips– my hubby ordered the buffalo ones and I ordered the regular ones. Amazing! No chunks of fat, like other places. Thanks Peter B’s!

The calamari appetizer is very interesting. It’s like calamari steak, thick pieces. It comes with a couple sauces. It tasted good. Service is great place is clean. Lots of TVs everywhere I had a few of their beers. I like them both. no complaints. Check it out

There are at least 3 breweries in Monterey that I know of… each offers something distinct. The beer club seems to have the strongest following at this location and the food is more on the fried/sports bar side of the spectrum. The location is just off of Alvarado below the Marriott, which is fairly central to town. The service is ok, the food is ok, and the beer is cold. We go here once in a blue moon or when the waits times on Alvarado are ridiculous.

The beer flights & draft beer selection is awesome! When we walked up a guy who just got his check told us he was leaving & could have his table which was in the shade. There were no other tables outside that were shaded. After we sat down the waitress said from the doorway that she had another couple who was waiting for that table inside. That was embarrassing. I would have preferred her to come up to the table and gently ask if she could find us another table. We got up right away and were seated inside. Then we ordered a flight of beer which the waitress forgot about. There was one other occupied table /Not busy. After a reminder she delivered with no apologies. I ordered the vegetable sandwich with sweet potato tater tots. The sandwich was so hot & the portobello mushroom was rubbery and impossible to bite off without using my fingers. Perhaps I didn’t read the menu close enough but I was hoping for a fresh veggie sandwich with crunch. It had a cold pickle on top which was strange on a scorching hot sandwich. It was served with two sauces, one green, one orange that could have been for the tater tots or the sandwich. I would have appreciated the waitress telling me about them when she delivered the food. The sweet potato tater tots were unremarkable. My husband got the club sandwich which was excellent but the coleslaw was bland.

After venturing to multiple bars and breweries tonight, we finally ended up across the street from our hotel at Peter Bs. We had not so great experiences at the 3 other places we ventured to in Monterey today. Jacqueline, our server at Peter Bs, made leaving the hotel worth it! She is friendly and bubbly and super inviting. She was fun to talk to and really efficient. Aside from the amazing service, we had delicious beer and incredible nachos! Also loved that we could see sports on all the TVs around us(we love sports…) we will absolutely be back and I hope that Jacqueline is working!

Whoops, I forgot Jack’s at Portola is now closed for lunch(due to renovations to the Monterey Conference Center, and it’s possible that the salad bar will never return :/). But it meant that I had to come to Peter B’s for lunch and I was reminded of how much I like it. I stopped imbibing(no alc for me, no no no) a few months ago so I don’t go to the same spots … However, I’ll be back to Peter B’s soon and often. As a bar, it gets high marks for the cleanliness of the place. Restrooms are always super clean(benefits of being connected to a hotel). The atmosphere is not fancy, but simple and clean. Outdoor patio has large, clunky wooden tables with some being under outdoor heaters. If you can get here in time, you can sit near the shrubbery and watch bikers and pedestrians pass by. Food is good. Some of it is super good. Appetizers include a pretzel that is better off avoided because it is not easy to enjoy(consistency of an undercooked bagel). But that is the only thing I’ve ever had in my several years of coming here that I didn’t enjoy. Bratwurst(or is it sausage) is available to share and it is a fun and delicious plate that is a great value. Nachos have shredded pork instead of the usual beef(but they can substitute beans if you are vegetarian). Unbeknownst to most locals, Jack’s is a first-class restaurant largely due to the creations of Chef Jason Giles, and Peter B’s is also under his leadership. So you’ll see some touches from Jack’s like the homemade chips with a very blue cheese-y dip, and the salmon nicoise. Sustainable seafood that adheres to the Monterey Aquarium’s guidelines, hormone-free, grass-fed meats and poultry are also part of the program here so you can feel pretty good about anything you order. Free wi-fi and a no-rush attitude on weekdays make this an ideal spot for an affordable lunch while you get some work done. But I still haven’t talked about the Fish and Chips. They’re the best in Monterey County. Ale-battered with a thick, crispy crust and fresh cod. Three pieces. I’ve been everywhere and this is the dish that they all get compared to(and fall short). Healthy items include a Veg sandwich on wheat roll, salmon nicoise, hummies and veggies. Happy hour has great food and drink discounts. They finally canceled the $ 1 tacos on Taco Thurs. This may mean we can finally come back on Thurs without being crowded out — most Thurs were SRO. They have a mug club and they meet here once a month(ck website for details). They also have a loyalty program and sometimes to double or triple points. Peter B’s takes reservations(I’m sure they’re the only sports place that does), has happy hour and a lot of times game specials and they run«day of week» specials throughout the year. Add that they’re already affordable and I just do not see why they’re not voted Best Sports Bar year after year. Instead, Knuckles(not even a local place but a chain) walks off with the award, with their indifferent service, mediocre food and high prices but oh well… More garlic fries for me then.

We decided to come here for dinner since it was only around the corner from our hotel and of course we needed somewhere that was dog friendly. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. We definitely picked a perfect day to go to Monterey. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She also brought out a treat and a water bowl for our dog. We ordered a few appetizers and fish tacos. My favorite was the fish tacos and buffalo wings. The tacos had so much flavor especially if you add the side of guacamole that comes with it. Also the flavor of the buffalo sauce on the wings was the right amount and was cooked perfectly. Not too crispy and not too soft. The fried pickles weren’t too sour so we enjoyed it. The calamari we also really liked because it was crispy and flavorful. I didn’t like the clam chowder at all. I only took one small bite. It tasted like it came out of a can. So I regret getting that there instead of on the wharf. The beer flight is worth it if you’re a beer drinker. I would definitely come back here for the appetizers though. I give it 4 stars because of the appetizers and the service provided :)

We had an awesome time. We bought the Travelzoo deal with 2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 flights of beer for $ 35. It’s a great deal. It was enough to feed 4 adults. We did order a ½ rack of ribs, and we took some food home. The service was good. The staff is friendly. We got the crab and artichoke dip which was delicious and the quesadilla for apps. For entrees, we got fish and chips(good) and the steak(ok). The beef ribs were good too. The flights of beer was the best part. We chose 10 different 4 oz. beers. My favorite was the Pumpkin seasonal ale. My dad liked the dark stout. Everything is brewed in house.

We had bought a Travelzoo voucher for this place. We came here for a late dinner with two tired doggies in tow after a long day of hiking and exploring the area. The patio was empty because apparently they had just finished a private event, so getting a table was no big deal. Our server was very nice and kept checking on us even though we were the only table outside and they were pretty busy inside. Our voucher allowed us to choose two appetizers, two entrees and two beer flights(5 samples of 4 oz each). The beer flights were pre-selected for us. The blonde ale and the amber beers were my favorites but across the board the beers were quite good. The appetizer portions were pretty generous. We got the calamari and the crab artichoke dip. The calamari batter was great and the pieces were big but, a bit chewy. The dip was very good but all the crab meat was at the bottom of the dip. Our entrees were the grilled fish tacos and the steak. The tacos were tasty. The steak was a bit overcooked but it was good quality meat Overall I enjoyed the experience and I would come back, at least for beer and appetizers.
