Unfortunately the only positive here was the view. Our food was ehhh… Nothing stood out at all. The oysters were oily and had bits of spinach. Our stew was swimming in oil… We left unhappy. But the fun started on our track home. Our stomached started hurting pretty bad and got worse as the evening progressed. Since the only other thing we had that day was Starbucks and we shared everything we ate here, it was apparent where the sickness came from. The next day I was still hurting to the point where I called in sick to work. A side note… We had some entertainment watching and listening to an older blond lady server argue with a younger guy server about who came in when. Come to find out it was a fight over tips since we saw him counting his cash on our way out. Really professional guys… That’s probably why the place was so empty. Back to the grotto next time for us.

We needed a light lunch after our whale watching trip and Big Fish Grill was close by. View was pleasant, the staff friendly, and the service good. I believe that Big Fish Grill has the same owner as Beach House at Lover’s Point which we enjoyed in the past. Big Fish Grill does not quite meet that standard IMO. Décor seemed a bit tired and in need of some fresh touches. But over all BFG was adequate for what we needed. I had a cup of clam chowder and DH opted for the larger bowl. We shared the salmon patties which were on a bed of cole slaw. The two patties were small and didn’t have much salmon flavor, but at least they were not too fishy. The clam chowder was light on the clams, but creamy and filling. We did not want dessert but I saw a dessert tray off to the side. Does every restaurant in Monterey have a dessert tray? Seems so old school.

If I could give 0 stars I would! Our waiter was very rude and didn’t pay any attention to us. I asked what the free appetizer was and when he said calamari, I respectfully declined but he still brought it to our table. My fiancé tried it anyways and he said it wasn’t good at all, what a waste of food. My fiancé ordered a bottled beer and there was flakes of something in the glass before he poured his beer in. Food wasn’t good at all, again a waste of food. We only tipped so we wouldn’t have to wait for our change so we could leave! Wouldn’t ever recommend.

I got a sampler platter. It had Deep fried calamari, cod… etc and french fries. My meal was ok, generally what I was expecting so I wasn’t let down at all but my wife ordered the macadamia nut crusted halibut and she didn’t even finish her meal. The fish was overcooked, the macadamia nuts weren’t a part of some sort of breading but looked like they were just dropped on the fish… generally, she didn’t enjoy her meal. The view is nice though.

Best ocean view in the Monterey Pier. The food falls short. I found the calamari to be lackluster. The burger and fish n chips were also a-ok.

First time being here and it was amazing. The atmosphere was wonderful and a front view of the water. We got our appetizer was the fried calamari and it was fresh and hot. Not the plate was hot and food cold like most the plate was cool and food hot. My boyfriend had the crab filled prawns and they were good. My king crab liguni was yummy too. Little pricy but overall good food.

It smells like a porta-potty in there! Could barely stomach one drink before leaving. Advertise a happy hour but didn’t give us happy hour price

First time here since they changed the name. Beautiful ocean view… Saw a couple of sea others swimming by. We Had the calamari, shrimp Louie, and fish&chips. Everything was yummy and my four year old daughter loved the calamari. Just FYI fish for the fish and chips is not local. Looked like the freezer kind. But still tasted good. Will come again… maybe to try the steak.

Came here on a stop through California. I was craving oysters and was handed a card for a free appetizer(when you order an entrée). I was down for some free calamari, plus they were dog friendly! Our server Jerry was super quick and friendly-completely on top of everything. My dog got a water bowl and some chicken breasts and we got the free calamari, oysters, and the cioppino. Oysters were fresh and clean– not the tastiest I’ve had, but pretty good. I give it a 7⁄10. Calamari was bomb! 10⁄10 for me. Cioppino was alright. Sort of plain. Wasn’t worth the $$$ for me. Service was outstanding. Jerry was amazing. I recommend him if he is there. Overall a good place to eat.

Old place we used to like that changed hands recently. Basic fish fare but very worn down dated atmosphere, leaky roof. Try at a later date.

My family is here visiting so we decided to check out Big Fish Grill for the view, the view was great but service was terrible. We had a split check, & our waitress Evelyn switched tickets(told my mom the cash ticket was the more expensive one, it wasn’t) to try & pocket the extra cash for a tip(even though her gratuity was added + $ 10 that we added on top of that) She didn’t even give us our itemized receipts until we asked for them because we realized our total was way off. She started getting nervous when she realized we were trying to piece together what she had done. We asked for our receipts & she handed over the extra cash that was owed pretty quickly so that we would leave. Just extremely disappointing and dishonest to have my family treated like that while visiting Monterey & a suppose to be «family friendly» environment. Will not be back.

The service was very slow and when I received my meal it was warm. The food was marginal in taste, but not to sound negative Nelly the scenery was great. This is a place I will not be visiting again.

This is the last restaurant at the end of the wharf, my husband and I actually looked at all the other restaurants menu before we settled here, and I’m glad we did! The gentleman at the front even gave us a complementary free chefs choice appetizer! Yay fried calamari for us! First thing I would like to point out is how cute this restaurant is and great views of the water! And also such excellent customer service from the moment we stood in front of the restaurant to us leaving! Food: we ended up also ordering the bruschetta as well as the free calamari and both came out well. The bruschetta had a goat cheese spread that really stood out well and i was happy that the calamari was not totally fried, just the right amount of crunch while still giving you that calamari taste. Now my entrée was the del marre and boy was that good! My husband ordered the fisherman sampler*?* and it basically was different types of fish that was deep fried along with fries. Got a little tired of fried food by then.

Best view on the warf, not so good clam chowder(too thick and few clams), great and large fisherman’s platter, good service.

Want to sit and watch seagulls, pelicans, sea otters, ducks and sailboats… Well this is your place! We stopped here after an afternoon of exploring the wharf and cannery row and they sat us in the best seat of the house– ask for the last table on the main level– full view of the bay and all the marine life! We watched sea otters playing in the water, marine birds follow a fishing boat into the bay and pelicans swimming around taking a break from fish eating. It was the views we had been wanting during our whole trip! The menu also had a selection of fresh fish and local Monterey abalone shells! I ended up not getting the abalone just because it was market price and a little out of my range but it would have been cool to try. I didnt feel too disappointed because my second choice was the cioppino and it was packed full of muscles and clams, little octopus and fresh fish. It was sooo good, had a great spice and served with garlic cheese bread to sop up the delicious red sauce. I was in heaven eating this delicious meal, drinking a local ipa and looking out at the bay, this is definitely a must stop for anyone visiting the wharf!

Worst service. Pet peeve when the children don’t get there food at the same time and have to stare at everyone else’s food. Waiter never apologized. We had to get our own condiments from there little waiter both. Clam chowder had a interesting taste and not in a good way it also lacked clams. I’m spoiled being a local so we get to have some of the best clam chowder this place has the worst. Will not be going back. There are better restaurants at the wharf.

We had family visiting from out of town and decided to visit Monterey for the day last Friday… The day was gorgeous and wanted to eat an early dinner at the Wharf. I have mixed reviews for the appetizers. We ordered the fried calamari, garlic steamers, & grilled calmari steak. Unforturnately, the fried calamari was overcooked and chewy. I was worried that the grilled calamari steak would also be tough because it took more time to cook than the fried calamari. To my surprise, the grilled calamari was perfectly cooked & tender! The garlic steamers were also delicious! It was too bad they screwed up the fried calamari… The clam chowder flavor was good, but they certainly lacked clams! Nothing worse than having clam chowder be full of potatoes, but this also lacked that. I guess I’m used to a more heartier chowder here in the SF Bay Area. We also had the shirmp scampi & stuffed sole w/lobster for our entrees. Seafood is tricky to cook, so it really takes a good restaurant to stay consistant with its food. If this restaurant was more consistant overall, it would’ve had a higher rating. It was nice the service was good though.
