We moved to OC, but we still drive 50 miles to see Dr. Wei in Monterey Park. * Dr. Wei always gives us the most precise prescriptions. Other optometrists offer more stylish glass frames, but their prescriptions were too low(cannot see clearly) or too high(get tired quickly). * Dr. Wei cares about his patients, and he spends time to talk to us. He also performs eye surgery, and he taught at UCI. * Dr. Wei has many patients. Please call 1 week early to make an appointment and expect to wait 30 – 60 minutes. We are glad we came here. 8-)

I agree with the other reviews. Only come here for regular check ups, DONOT come here for special concerns. I was directed to Dr. Wei from another optometrist because I had an eyelid condition where the lashes on the bottom eyelids grew inwards rather than outwards. BIGMISTAKE coming here. We set up an appointment to get the procedure done. I was awake the entire time, but not drugged up enough. In the middle of the procedure, the drug wore off, I of course told them I feel pain and they decided to numb my eyes. It isn’t fun seeing knives coming at you. I been coming to Dr. Wei for about 5 years and is still dissatisfied with the way they run their business. The staff here is rude and very unprofessional. When I had my stitches, they demanded that I take a pressure test for my eyes. HELLLO, my eyes were swollen from the surgery. Buying contacts from them is a pain. They charge you an inconsistent«fitting fee» that ranges from $ 25-$ 40. When I asked for a copy of my prescription, they refused too give it to me until I paid that fee. Then an older lady(the wife) kept trying to convince me to buy contacts from them. I got annoyed of them hassling me so I purchased the contacts from them. However, I still never got a copy of my prescription. The reason why I stayed with Dr. Wei was because of my condition. When I got the procedure done, years later — I noticed I had to get it done again because it was done incorrectly. When I went back and mentioned it to Dr. Wei, his response, «Just wear contacts and it won’t bother you». Does it look like I want to wear contacts my entire life?! No. I had to go to a specialist to get my procedure done again. I ended up paying thousands of dollars to get it professionally done due to this mistake. By the way, when I ordered my contacts, they didn’t even have it in stock. I would not recommend coming here, it was a waste of my time.

I too have been seeing Dr. Wei since I was a little kid… and while he was and still is a very good and experienced doctor, I feel his«been there, seen it all» attitude was a little off-putting when I went a few months ago. I told him my vision became blurred in the afternoons… and I thought I had astigmatism because I saw«halos» around lights at night. He dismissed my concerns and said my eyes were fine. He just upped my prescription a bit and sent me packing. Three months later and I’m still worried about my eyes… my vision is still blurred, and stays blurred for much of the day now. So I’m getting a second opinion. Bottom line: Dr. Wei is fine for regular checkups, but I wouldn’t recommend him if you have«special» concerns about your eyes… especially if you are young and healthy!

I had the worst new year because I woke up with what appeared to be conjunctivitis in BOTH eyes along with a decorative white ring around each iris. Delicious, right? It was effing horrible. After baffling the ER doctors and my PCP, I got an urgent auth to see my opthamologist whom I’ve seen since I was 3 years old. He’s been in this office forever. Don’t be discouraged/scared off by the looks of the office even tho it is falling apart. This sexy beast of a doctor is around 70 years old now, but he’s still doing his ‘thang’ as you kids used to say. He’s still SUPER busy all the time(and has been since I was a kid) and most likely you’ll have to wrestle old people to get a chair in the waiting room. Good luck. They be quicker than you think. I lost and ended up waiting out in the cold. It’s worth the wait tho cuz Dr. Wei is extremely thourough with his exams. The entire staff is very limited in english, so be warned. The good doctor is fluent in mandarin.
