Samurai Sushi & Teriyaki

This place FxCKING SUCKS!!! First of all, did you really think you were going to find a good sushi place in montebello? Cmon get real. This city has become so ghetto over these last 15 or 20 years! The people they have working here need to catch a beat down, they are so rude, can’t believe it. Like some stupid little ghetto high school kids who think they’re going to be famous or something, fxcking delusional. If you want to eat something good stay out of ghetto ass montebello cause everything is a low budget rip off!!! You need to head on down to orange county where they got quality, good service, and class! LA is so ghetto. If you go to orange county leave your ghettoness in LA except if you go to santa Ana haha

I had the 3 group lunch special for only $ 9.99, I tried the salmon skin hand roll was a little greasy not too much taste. I also had the lobster special roll, sang 911 roll. They have some chef special rolls that look good

I have been here so many times because my friend likes it and they have 99 cent sake bombs. I used to eat dinner before going to Samurai. This place has the worst service ever! Except for Carlos, he was the best and would go sometimes to see him but that stopped when we had 2 run ins with roaches. First time, one medium sized one was crawling on the table and I alerted our server who alerted the manager. Second time, a baby was crawling on our plate.
Sushi has no flavor and is over rated. Soup was mushy and the list goes on. This place should have a thorough cleaning and hopefully someone will pay them a surprise inspection. This may be harsh but we gave it several chances every Friday for months and months.

I’m disappointed. Haven’t been here in a while. Took forever to place order. I ordered the Salmon teriyaki with steamed veggies and rice, they brought me salad:/ not sure if they are under new management, but it looks like they don’t have it together.

Still horrible service except this time my boyfriend got sick off of the sushi! No wonder they’re a «B» on their health grade. And my boyfriend still wanted another beer & roll but they were already cleaning up & putting everything away! Mind you it was only 9:30! I guess they don’t mind losing money! So avoid at all costs, its just a terrible establishment with poor food & poor customer service!

Me and my mom decided to eat here since she loves the food and hadn’t had dinner. It was 9:30pm and we saw an employee step out so she asked what time they closed and he said 10:30 so we ate there.
BAD IDEA!
Luckily I had already had dinner. My mom ordered her dinner and I had a beer. An employee came up to us and said they’ll be closing in 10 minutes and handed us the check. It was 9:50pm. There was a group of maybe 10 people who stepped out at 10pm… But my mom wasn’t done eating and I hadn’t finished my beer (I wasn’t leaving without finishing my beer)
They literally started cleaning up, putting chairs up and making us feel rushed. The group of employees just stood there talking, cursing, and just overall acting very unprofessional. It was extremely uncomfortable since my mother was trying to enjoy her meal.
ANYWAY… If you’re expecting good service don’t bother visiting this place. Also, I think the food is mediocre (but I don’t tell my mom).
Step it up! Customer service is a big deal and if you want returning customers you have to give them an overall good experience.

This place is the bomb! ! Friendly staff and awesome sushi chefs. Stopped by once and got hooked. Brought the family and them too got the whammy haha. Ask for my homey Sam at the sushi bar for great flavor and my girls Lindsay and Ariel for bomb service. Peace

I just had lunch at this place and I am pretty disgusted. We ordered yucky soba and a couple rolls. Not only was the chicken in the yucky soba pink and under cooked, the rice on the sushi rolls was super over cooked and so mushy. I had a roll that had avocado on top and the avocado was more firm than the rice. Very unpleasant to say the least. The only thing that was good was the ice water and Coke we ordered.

Came in at around 2pm so right after lunch rush hour today (Friday).The girls servers are the worst and I don’t know if it’s because they were ALL having a bad day.
They have absolutely no manners, don’t have good customer service, they were rude and could use a lesson on how to speak to paying customers.
It almost felt like they were doing me a favor. Anyway, the food is alright, not the best sushi in town. So I will be avoiding this place. I was once a frequent customer but with my most recent experience I will definitely be hitting up other places.

I have been here before and the quality of service and food has dropped when it first opened as maki-​yaki. I have been sitting down for at least 15min-​20 mins and out of the 4 servers here no one has came up to me and asked us for our drink or if we are ready to order .and mind you there is only 3 other tables filled. Finally my husband stood up and had to order at the register and the serve says oh sorry «is this to go» when she knew we have been waiting at our table. I really doubt we will come here again.

When I always go the sushi bar is never clean. Previous customers food is on the sushi bar area & no one picks it up for about 30 min. You want a refill, good luck! The laziest waitresses ever! The customer service by the waitresses is horrible!
The best part is, the sushi chefs are cool, they make good sushi & they listen to your needs! The waitresses are pathetic, lazy waitresses!

I’ve been coming for years. I enjoy their food, especially their baked rolls! I wish their quantity was better, but overall a good sushi place! Try the lobster and Alaskan roll!

Took them over 5 minutes to supposedly clean a table and didn’t allow us to sit. When we stated it was fine with us to sit and wait they rudely yelled to just wait and give them two minutes! Yet they got upset when we were standing by the door waiting for our table! Ruined the whole experience!

Yeah as soon as we sat down I thought this would be an okay experience. Called it!
The service was horrible and I mean This loosely. Once I ordered a beer I got the bottle for my drink but no glass. I was able to forgive this thinking they were busy and it was easily forgivable. So my wife asked for a glass and ten minutes later I asked for that same glass. Finally I got my glass but my beer was starting to get warm. I could’ve just drank from the bottle but if others had a glass, shouldn’t I? Once we ordered I noticed the table was noticeably crooked. When we pour our soy sauce the sauce was close enough to tip and spill over so I used small portions. Disappointing.
The sushi was quick but the service once again never came and checked on my wife if she needed more soda. This isn’t hard of a request but it is a common sense one. Plus I did notice there was over four servers and the restaurant was fairly empty.
My wife commented her dish, the Alaskan was flavorful but compared to other restaurants it wasn’t enough. USE OYSTER SAUCE, personal recommendation.
I will say I would have given this place 2-​stars if it were for the salmon. I don’t know if they really didn’t know what Otoro (they have me a weird look) was but the salmon 2 pcs. was well worth it to add a star. Not coming back those same servers serve us again. Good was good, not great enough for me to rave about it, unfortunately.

I’m giving this place a 3 star for what it is. Not many good sushi places around this area. Not my go to place at all but this place is decent and gets the job done. I had the pretty lady today (no rice with salmon, crab, avocado and carrots). It was pretty good. Some of their rolls have too much rice. It was very busy both the times we were there and service took a long time.

It was cheap, the portions are big. The seaweed salad came on a plate instead of the usual small little dish, which was a pleasant surprise.
I got the chirashi bowl which was fine. For the price, I guess you really can’t expect much more. The sashimi pieces were very thin and certainly the quality isn’t anything to write home about.

Where can you get great Japanese food in Montebello at a conservative price? Look no further than Samurai! I sound like an infomercial, but it’s true!
What I wanted: Katsu Chicken plate with tempura California Roll.
What I actually had: Tempura california roll, Beef Yakisoba, Tempura Veggies (split between me and someone else.) and Green Tea Ice Cream
After we had ordered our Katsu we were informed that they were all out of Katsu chicken. How do you «run out» of Katsu chicken? If everything is made there, isn’t all you need chicken and breading? That’s beside the point, what I ate was still REALLY good.
The beef yakisoba was perfect! The beef/​noodle ratio was perfect, and a little heavier on the beef. I love the wet/​crunchy-​ness of the noodles and the flavor. The generous portion fed two very hungry girls!
The tempura California Roll was delicious! My gosh, anything in tempura batter just tastes so much better! I like to eat mine straight, but dipping it in soy sauce, or tempura sauce is also an option!
The green tea ice cream was also very yummy! I want a tub of it to take home!
There is always ample parking, even on the weekends. The service is fast and friendly, and you can’t complain about the prices!
