I have ate there a few times and it is good. I am not going to lie. However, today my husband went in there to ask to use the restroom since Amy’s(bakery next door) did not have one. Since no one was in the front, he let himself into the restroom. When he came out, a man who claimed to be the owner, started yelling racial slurs at him, and charging at him. As he is walking out a woman comes out and slaps him. I can’t believe all this over using the restroom. At the end of the day, they lost my business forever, and I hope some of you think twice before supporting people like this.

Best Armenian middle eastern food. The quality is amazing. Owners are super friendly. Food tastes great and it’s very reasonably priced unlike other places I know. For example. 2 plates with a few appetizers a drinks for around 35 – 40 bucks. U can’t beat that. The rice is amazing. The meat is top. Parking is a brease. The only bad part about this restaurant is it’s located in Montebello. Why doesn’t Pasadena have a restaurant like this where the quality is great. We are stuck with Sahara which is not all that and a joke of a place called Mediterranean café. Lol the food at Mediterranean café is like a joke. Anyway come to golden skewer u will not regret ur visit

I haven’t been here in a while. They catered my 40th birthday and I moved the food. I came today and had such tasty food… the chicken breast skewer was moist and tender and very good. They give you a roasted tomato and roasted chilè with your dinner… both delish! Service was so great! In fact, the owner spoke to us at length and recommended the bulgar instead of rice. What a great recommendation… scrumptious!!! Though I haven’t been here in a while, I will definitely be back SOON. All of this and a very fair price!!! See you again soon… best Persian food in the area!!!

Came in here on a Sunday night and ordered the pork kebab, chicken lule, a couple of beers, water and a sampler combination. First comes out the sampler platter, it is a combination of tatziki, ikra(my favorite), sarma, hummus, tabuleh, and potato salad. Everything on the sampler platter had good flavor and it was a generous serving. While enjoying our appetizers, the server came out and said they ran out of pilaf, so my dining companion decided to try the bulgur, which he ended up enjoying and I had the basmati. When the food finally came out my rice was COLD. It wasn’t even warm around the edges, it was cold cold. I would have brought it to the attention of the server but he took forever to come back. My chicken lule however was very moist and flavorful. The dinner also came with a complimentary pastry with the bill. When I saw the bill I noticed that I was over charged for the beer. I waited for the server to return and correct the error. Minus 1 star over charging me, minus 1 star for cold rice/running out of pilaf. Over all the meal was very good and flavorful, I just hope I don’t experience these issues on a future visit.

Nice little spot. The food was great but the basmati rice was dry. Lamb was excellent! The servers was on point but we were the only guest in the restaurants on a Friday night at 8PM. Overall we were happy with our experience here. We will try them again soon.

I ordered 3 salmon kabobs for take out. It took about 40 minutes from the time I ordered. Not only that the two small pieces of fish tasted a little old and fishy. The basmati rice was too dry. Some of the rice was broken as if they mixed old rice with new rice. Not going there again.

The best Armenian food in SoCal! I have visited other restaurants(sit down and fast food types) throughout Los Angeles and surrounding areas and although they are very good, there is no comparison to the Golden Skewer. My favorites are the lamb kebab(juicy, tender, and flavorful) and the lentil soup(the texture and flavor is great) are out of this world. I recommend you start off with an appetizer. We always have the hummus, tabbouleh, and tzatziki which is accompanied with white and wheat pita bread. Butter is served on the side. The lamb kebab plate included a choice of rice(I chose the Armenian rice), a slightly charred roasted pepper and roasted tomato. The portions are very large so, we split a plate. The meal ends with a warm bite size Armenian pastry and candy. Enjoy!

Every time I drive up from the OC, I come here — the best Armenian food! Always start with the hummus, taboule & the Lamb kebab is delish — always tender, never overcooked. Service always good. Don’t know about waiting a long time as in prior reviews — never had a problem with that. Of course, everything is fresh so don’t expect«fast food» turnaround. Highly recommend!

I was just there at 6pm on a Sunday night, they were not busy at all. Not a problem, cause we had their food before, it was ok. There were 4 of us. We ordered our food within 5 mins(2 chicken thigh kabobs and 2 beef kabobs). After 25 mins of waiting, the guy came out and said, sorry, chicken thigh is no good. What can I get you? So it became 4 beef kabob orders. Then another 20 mins pass, no food came out. My boyfriend and I had to leave, so we cancel our orders. We spent an hour for nothing, well… a glass of water that we waited 5 mins for…

Unlike the poor Unilocaler Erin B., who had an unfortunate experience and got yelled at, mine was smooth and enjoyable. I guess it depends on who you get. Service was great for me. While ordering, I repeatedly reminded the waiter Ashot I wanted my chicken kebab juicy and not dry. To my surprise, he offered to cook the dish himself for me! It’s a family business and so he has the knowledge and authority to do so. He even brought out samples of the two types of eggplant for me to try since I couldn’t decide on which one to order. He stood around and chatted with us for awhile. I learned from him that Armenia has one of the cleanest water in the world. He said the drinking water from any public fountain in Armenia tastes as clean and fresh as water bought from the store. Interesting! PROS: 1) Moutabal — smashed eggplant, whitish color and tasted creamy, good. 2) Ikra Eggplant Caviar — smashed eggplant, orange color with a little sweetness, good. 3) Hummus — not too sour like most places; good. If you like spicy, you need to request because Spicy Hummus is not on the menu. Ashot was sweet he had the kitchen make a brand new batch just for us because they ran out. 4) Chicken Kebab — came out perfect; juicy and not dry. 5) Filet Mignon Kebab — tender and tasty. 6) Chicken Noodle Soup — the Armenian version; unique and very tasty, a must try. 7) Pilaf Rice — one of the 2 rice choices. Pilaf was more moist and tastier than the basmati rice. Next time I would opt for just the pilaf. 8) Gata & Halva — complimentary desserts, yum! 9) Parking — plenty since it is in a big plaza. 10) Customer Service — Ashot was fantastic and Marina was nice and attentive. CONS: 1) Borsh Soup — the Armenian version of American beef stew except that it was on the sour side. Too sour for my taste buds. 2) Pita Bread — not soft and a little cold. 3) Basmati Rice — plain and didn’t have much taste, I had to add some salt. 4) French Fries — tasted more like potato wedges than french fries. For the Montebello area, the Golden Skewer Restaurant has the best Middle Eastern/Armenian food. Great food coupled with superb services, I definitely would come back and highly recommend!

Second time here, they have remodeled since the last time I came. Looks fancier! If it’s your first time walking in, you might get confused because they don’t have a counter or host. You kinda just stand around until an employee comes out from the back to greet you. Food wait time was very long. I was starving when I walked in. If I would have known the food would take 30 minutes to be served, I would have gone elsewhere. Yes, 30 minutes. They do bring fajita bread and butter while you wait. I ordered the chicken skewer with pilaf rice. The chicken was great, rice needed more salt(which they didn’t have on the table along with pepper.) Service was great, very friendly. They also gave us a small pastry on the house. I would recommend if you’re willing to wait for your food. Some food is worth waiting for!

The food was ok, ordered the chicken thigh wrap and the chicken was dry. It came with a side, I asked for salad and the dressing was too salty. The service was bad. There was only another couple in the restaurant and my food took more than 15 minutes to come out. What’s worse is that my food was a to go order, when I handed the waitress $ 10 for my $ 7.59 total i was asked if I needed change, as if she had served me. The portions are good for the price, but they can improve on their service and food quality.

The first time I came here the food was pretty decent. It actually deserved 4 stars. My BF, his mom and I decided to eat here based on our decent previous visit. We all ordered the chicken breast kebabs which by the way are not expensive. The meat had a strange texture to it and it was very salty. The salad I order was much too salty too. The basmati rice was very poorly prepared as was my BF’s pilaf. They are nice enough to serve you half rice and half salad here however. Other places charge you more for this favor. They are nice enough to give you free mini pastries and cookies after your meal which are actually very good! I actually like their décor. They have sculptures which look like archeological finds on the wall. They have a large parking lot as they are in a large commercial center. What can I do without here? The salty food! What makes Golden Skewer stand out? The free mini pastries and cookies! Two stars. This place is really ridiculously bad.

Great food, fresh ingredients, and really clean inside. This place can easily be missed but it is not to be missed! I had the appetizer combination platter plus Lentil soup and Vareniki. The server forgot the sour cream for the vareniki. When the owner’s son checked on our table, he brought us some. Bathrooms, dining area, and hallway are pristinely clean. Very pleasant dining experience.

My nieces and two of there co-workers where in town for the night. They were hungry and wanted to try something different. I took them to golden skewer. Which is Mediterranean food in which they never had. As soon as we arrived we were acknowledge and seated. Since it was there first time the server recommended us to order different plates to share. Great idea. We sure got a great feel of there authentic food. It was a great experience. I totally recommend this place. Love it.

The filet mignon was absolutely cooked to perfection. Moist, with a slight redness inside, superb taste tickled my tastebuds. Each bite, more tender then the last. Sure I was stuffed, but I wanted more. A bite of soft Armenian pilaf really added the perfect touch to the meal. My brother ordered hummous as an appetizer. I couldn’t help but be astounded by the artistic design of such a great plate A touch of class. I hated to destroy it’s beauty as I jabbed a scoop up with my fresh pita bread. Astounding! My brother had the chicken kabob dinner plate. So moist and tasty, and we exchanged chicken and filet mignon pieces. The deco of Golden Skewer had nicely designed trim on the walls. The nice stylish old fashioned mirrored window gave me the impression of being in the country, because my uncle has an identical window on his ranch. It’s also a very clean almost immaculate inside and the waitress was very attentive and accomondating. To top the evening off, they brought us a couple of small pasties. Ooooh, those were so good. Don’t let the size of this place fool you. They do have a banquet room down a hallway in the back that can accomondate approximately 150 people. Be prepared to have a great time. I really enjoyed this awesome meal and will definitly be back to try another delicacy. Thank you for a nice enjoyable evening.
