This is single handedly the worst establishment I’ve ever encountered. The service is terrible! I was not greeted but scowled at by the only server working. She was not friendly at all and made it seem as if our presence was an inconvenience. The food was just ok. Actually a little less than ok. I ordered a pupusa revuelta which is meat and cheese. However, it appeared my pupusa was just cheese as the bits of meat were very thin and tiny. I forget what my bf and his friend ordered but they too were unimpressed. I would not recommend this place unless you like it when a server treats you as if you are a chore. The food was not worth our time or money.

El peor Restaurante Salvadoreño q nunca habia visitado. Pedi pupusas revueltas, solo llevaban queso cn tomate pero crudas. Luego pedi tamal de gallina, super aguado y sin sabor. Jamas regresaria de nuevo

Came here on a Thursday for there pupusa special. The service was slow and the waitress did not come and check if we needed more drinks. After 15 minutes we got our food and the pupusas looked and taste average. The price is right the food is average but I’ll keep looking for other spots to hit before coming back to this place.

I’m not going to lie, I was a little worried about coming to El Zipote for pupusas because the jukebox was blaring and customers were drinking during brunch hours on a Sunday. This is a hole in the wall establishment that offers a wide range of entrees and likely not all cuisine from El Salvador. The pupusas range from $ 1.89 to $ 2 and some change. We tried: — plain cheese one — cheese with pork — beans, cheese and pork The pupusas tasted ok, but we didn’t really see or taste the pork. Service was fine and they didn’t rush us at all to order or pay, which is nice. There’s parking in the complex that they are located in. Unilocal 100 Challenge — 64 of 100

I love Pupusas and a good Salvadoran breakfast that includes Huevos, Frijoles, Crema, and Platanos. These two dishes are some of my all time favorite foods… But not from this place :-( I open up my Pupusa to let them cool and inside is hardly any stuffing. I was hoping that they’d at least be tasty considering the lack of filling but they weren’t. In fact they were too tangy. I’m afraid they might have been bad. Pupusas should not have to be drenched in salsa nor curtido for them to taste good and these had to be to add flavor to them. I didn’t even eat the second one. Thankfully, the Horchata and the Chorizo Con Huevos dish made up for that. Eggs and Chorizo were cooked properly and the beans and rice were on point. The platanos were not over cooked and were perfectly sweet. The waitress was nice but it took a long time for me to get water, my food amd then finally my check. Mind you, this place was not busy. Lastly, the restaurant itself was small(despite looking enormous from the outside) and hot(two fans in the place and only 1 was on). Food can make up for a lot of things but when you mess up Pupusas… it’s over!!! Food = 3 (5 for Chorizo Con Huevos and 1 for the Pupusas) Service = 3 Restaurant = 2 Total 2.66 = 3(rounded up, even though im mad about the pupusas)

If I have to write a review as I wait for my food I’ll give them the worst rating ! You show up to a restaurant hungry not with a full stomach what’s the deal where are the chips and salsa? The place is empty and it took more than 5mins to get addressed –___– The waitress took my order with an ugly face while the guys who came in after and ordered beer got a smile and a giggle lmao It even made me laugh ! Now that I have my food I feel like I should’ve walked out as soon as I realized how long they made me wait … I never complain about prices but the Ensalada drink being served in a small cup full of ice for $ 3.50? Hahahaha I’m done !

The pupusas are slighter better than just being pedestrian. They have a variety of pupusas: cheese, jalapenos, spinach, etc. Very cheap for a plate of pupusas, sour cream, beans/rice mixed, and plantains. I enjoy ordering here when I want a quick dinner and want to save a few bucks. Their agua drinks are very undelicious. Horchata tastes like you’re drinking quick sand and the jamaica and tamarindo have way too much sugar. A diabetic must make them.

No. No bueno :( I hate to be a snob I really do but the lady served us in Spanish the whole time without any attempt to point at the menu to see what we wanted; I kept pointing at the menu and she looked like she didn’t really want to talk to us. Never the less, boyfriend and I spoke in broken terrible Spanish. There’s a ridiculous juke box in the back that occasionally blares mariachi music; if you’re going to blare mariachi music, do it right. The el salvadorian Horchata, for those of you who are familiar, is supposed to taste creamy, and better than any mexican Horchatas but this one was watered down and you can taste powder… I’ve never had a bad taco in my life until now and though I’ve never been to Mexico, I know my Cali-Mexi authenticity and this my friend, had absolutely NOFLAVOR in any of the meats we ordered. The tapatio was it. And finally… the Pupusas. This is the second time I’ve had pupusas and the first was with my lovely el salvadorian friend; she recommended an average place and it was BOMB. At this place, you can just buy a cheap super market tortilla and microwave it and it’d be about the same. I’ve never had so little cheese on my hispanic food in my life; took us 3 – 4 bites before I got a glimpse of the bland flavored BLEH. Don’t come here…

Not the even close to good it’s just ok, there Thursday $ 1.00 pupusas are just masa where the heck is the filling. It comes to show paying little means you get a little. Hens you get what you pay for. The salsa was just to much tomato needs salt n flavor. The curdido was just unpleasantly tasteless. D Definitely try it out yourself as for me im moving on…

Alright I am keeping this review short and sweet because I don’t like bashing Salvadorian spots. Whenever I have a bad review for Salvi food I feel like I am turning my back on my people, but then again they should step up their game and not make us look bad. I definitely get my fix when I want some traditional Salvadorian food in Montebello because it’s close by. But I if I am willing to drive somewhere else I definitely will. They are very skimpy with the amount of filling in there pupusas and the other items on their menu had nothing that stood out. My family and I gave them many opportunities throughout the years but they have never impressed us. So if you know of another spot closer than commerce or Pico feel free to take a drive and be happy.

The food was great but the customer service was the worst. The girl had an attitude! I asked her for a high chair, and she pointed to them. I asked for an horchata and she just rolled her eyes! She was extremely rude, if ever do go back its going to be to go.

Mesera Mexicana, pupusas para llevar sin curtido, ni salsa… no es definitivamente Salvadorena. May be it is mexican food disguised like Salvadorian food.

i’m a huge pupusa lover! i found this place while browsing . Unilocaled it, bought myself a gc, and went ahead to try it out. pretty disappointing! most of the food was bland. the pupusa had a very good texture to it, but it lacked of flavor since it didn’t have enough pork, cheese, and bean. the encurtido was pretty much tasteless. the rice was just like eating asian steamed rice but using a low quality rice. anyway, food was meehh! oh! and the mojarra frita needed some condiments on it. also, we waited for almost an hr to get our food. so, if you are in a «very-hungry» mode, i wouldn’t recommend this place. they are slooooowwww!

For weeks, maybe months, Laura B and myself were being haunted by Pupuseria. On the way to an Elite Event, closed after the event, way too drunk to stop, or on the way to a Hot Dog BBQ event… for me, I’ve passed by a few places but dang, why wasn’t I ever hungry?!? So after being teased once, or twice in one day, after eating 2 bacon wrapped hot dogs in Echo park on a HOT Saturday with fellow Unilocalers, we just so happened to be driving in Montebello when we saw this place. I HAD to pull in, so what did I do, crossed two lanes of traffic and made what I would call, an interesting right turn into this empty parking lot. From the outside, one might be a little skeptical going into this place, but I learned from Unilocal, the hole in the walls are usually the best. So we walk in, and the place is very clean, and very empty. The cooks, I believe the owners as well, were sitting in the back kitchen and quickly came to our service. I ordered 2 Revuelta Pupusa’s, which is a stuffed hand made corn biscuit like flat bread made using masa de maiz, stuffed with cheese, pork, and often beans. The Pupusa was pretty good, I wouldn’t say amazing. The stuffing wasn’t much, but the taste was ok. The curtido, which is a pickled cabbage relish, was a little bland. I originally ordered a horchata, but was told immediately, its an El Salvadorean horchata. hmmm, never had that before. Luckily for me, the server gave me a sample. Taste is COMPLETELY different from what that of what I was used to. It was a little thicker and had a chocolaty taste to it. It was ok, but wasn’t what I was looking for. Prices are pretty decent, under $ 2 each. They have different types of pupusas. My former buddy Laura, ordered bean and cheese, and it seemed to lack the cheese. Please wasn’t terrible, but also wasn’t the best. But I must say, my pupusa craving was satisfied… until the next craving…

I saw this place while driving by Washington blvd. I love pupusas and I wanted to see if this place was any good. The place was empty when I arrived and when I left Inside it actually looked nice and clean in. The food was ok. The pupusas were not as big as other places I have been to. I ordered revueltas. These consist of pork and cheese. There was hardly anything in there. The«curtido»(sliced cabbage in vinegar) was decent. I am going to give it a shot again in the future when I am in the area.
