I was excited to get a birthday cake from here based on the good reviews. I love supporting local family businesses and this place is close to my home. I came in 9 days before the event and requested a small birthday cake for about 10 people for my husband’s birthday. I wanted the cake in the shape of a surfboard and I talked about my options with the older lady at the counter in Spanish. She was really sweet and had me taste a few varieties of cake and I loved the pineapple flavor. Everything went well and I prepaid the $ 66 for the cake. Fast forward to 9 days later… I picked up the cake and it looks nothing like a surf board. It looks like an egg and sloppily done. Not a big deal, this was just for a small party anyway, right? Well, the closer on this bad review wasn’t the way it looked. It was the fact that I ordered pineapple and when we cut the cake it was a bad chocolate flavor. It tasted terrible. They used that cheap frosting on it too that has to be scraped off before you can eat it. I was promised this bakery didn’t use that kind of frosting. You know the kind… it sort of tastes like paint and you can find it on grocery store cupcakes. I could have gotten this cake made at Ralph’s for half the price and it would have tasted better. Nobody likes the chocolate and we tossed it. I’m really disappointed in this bakery. I had high hopes because the staff seemed so nice, oh well.

Just recently had my 1 year olds Sesame St. Themed bday party. Went to Aprils than to 2 other bakeries that would only do design in the cake book. I want extraordinary not something out of a book. Not something anyone else could order. Back to Aprils I went… I ordered the mocha and the orange. OMG! It was a hit… bam! Outta the park. Everyone loved the design loved the flavors and I had only the small center to bring home to enjoy. I had at least 75 people if not more at my party and everyone raved about this cake. Yes their cakes can be pricey… but you get what you pay for and I was very pleased with everything Aprils offered. Thank you Pauline April for your service we will definately be coming back.

I recently went to Aprils due to all the great reviews I had read online. I was looking for a cake for my son’s christening and walked in on a Saturday just to look around and see what they had to offer. I asked one of the older lady employees that was working at the counter for a price on a cake and she said 275 $, which compared to all the other bakeries I had recently visited, it was not bad. Two days later I happened to be in the area and walked in with my husband to show him the cake I was interested in. The same lady helped us but this time she said that the price she gave me was for a smaller version of the cake I liked. I ended up spending 30 minutes in the bakery looking for another cake disregarding the fact that she changed the price on me. As I went through the catalog I saw a cake that was perfect for my event. I asked her for the price so she said 360 $ for the new cake I had in mind. Being that it was much more luxurious than my previous choice I was ok with it. I asked her to write everything down that she was offering to me on a piece of paper with her name on it because I needed proof being how she had changed the price the first time around. My brother had offer to pay for my cake so I was going to have come back to make the order the next day with him. When we walked in a young girl offered to help and I showed her the paper with the order I wanted. The lady came out from the back and looked at the paper. Once again she changed the price on me, she said it was a mistake and the real price was 490 $. I felt like I had spoke to 3 different people. This lady seriously should not be taking orders or even allowed to go to the counter to speak to clients. To top it off she started to charge 30 $ more for the most insignificant thing like the ribbon around the cake that was already on the picture. I am not a person that could care about a little bad service or that has ever complained to a manager, let alone write a review but this was seriously the worst experience I have ever dealt with. Prices should be set not haggled with. If you tell your customers a price it shouldn’t change everyday.

The cake is okay, not worth $ 49.00. Misleading designs displayed in their display book.

I needed a very special cake to celebrate my daughter’s wedding. It had to have a plaid pattern using bright colors(she married a scot and it was Mexican fiesta theme party). I had a design so I went to several bakeries in my area to have it priced(including a very popular bakery located in my city). By far April’s Pastries quoted the lowest and had a greater variety of flavors than the others. In addition, they didn’t frost their cakes with that nasty buttercream that generally gets scraped off after being served. I went to pick up my cake ½ hour before the scheduled pick-up time — no problem. Within 10 minutes of my arrival the cake was ready and it was beautiful. Unlike anything I had see. Great craftsmanship, high attention to detail and well defined vivid colors. But the proof is in the pudding, as they say. In this case, the cake. And boy what a cake… Usually one gets one or two courteous«good cake», but not this time, I had many guests complimenting the cake and asking where I got it. You get what you pay for. If you value cost over quality, go to some supermarket and get one of their cakes. But if you want quality and a memorable cake go to April’s. From now on April’s Pastries will be my «go-to» bakery for those special cakes.

By far the best cakes I’ve ever had! Teresa was very friendly, and was able to figure something out to my tastes. Beautiful and delicious cakes! My mom would buy all my cakes here since my baptism all the way to my last birthday party. Now I’m 20 and I’m buying these cakes for every celebration! Totally yummy! The Piña colada is making my mouth water just thinking about it! Teresa was able to take my Facebook profile picture, and use it as frosting for my cake! It was awesome!

Without a doubt best cakes in LA. Have been going here for years and every time we order a cake they seem to get better and better. Love the girls at the shop especially the red head. She’s super cool and love how creative she is. Always thinking of how to make our cake better. Hands down love this place

I can start by saying that customer service is ok they are not rude, but the prices oh my the prices I really don’t know what they are thinking but they wanted to charge me $ 3 per cupcake! No decoration nothing just a regular cupcake with regular white whipped cream! I later went to Ralph’s and 12 cupcakes with decoration are only $ 5.99 for the dozen… Delicious and moist good bye April cakes till never… Toooo expensive not worth it…

I love baking and trying to make most all of my families cakes for events. But when my schedule is too constricted or its last minute, I love ordering from April’s cakes! I actually had my Quinceañera cake made here almost 20 years ago; I’ve loved their Piña Colada cake ever since then. One of the best flavors I’ve had has been their orange cream cake for my nephew’s birthday. It was awesome! It tasted like a 50⁄50 ice cream bar! Now the price can be a little high depending on the flavor and size but honestly, I tried a few other bakeries near the same area in Montebello and theirs were still the best hands down.

April’s cakes is amazing. They did a cake for a military event I was having that looked awesome and tasted delicious! It was so moist and flavorful, that ever since then I have used them for everything. On my sons birthday cake they were able to put a photo of his favorite band on the cake and let me mix and match the flavors. You know you have found a great place when everyone at the party is talking about how great the cake looks and taste.
