Terrible. Do not buy the groupon. I purchased it last year. I see they are back on. Beware… do not buy…

yeah, I bought two $ 50 groupons to go with someone 5 times for blowout. SInce they were closed for a couple months for renovations, the woman who I finally reached, told me that they would honor it after expiration. When I went, they honored the groupon but called me about the 2nd appointment saying that I have to pay full price since its expired. So I guess Im out of $ 80??? wow, as far as service, it was ok. The hairstylists are sweet but inexperienced so its like going to a wannabe supercuts. The man who answers the phone and does the odd jobs is not very friendly but not horrible at all either.

I have came here one time for a blowout using the $ 16 Blowout Groupon back in September. I have received great service during my time here. I do not remember the name of the lady who did my hair, but she was a very short lady, around 5’0 with black short hair. She did a good job on doing my hair. My hair felt silky bone straight. What’s keeping me from rating this place a 5 star is the fact that I tried to make an appointment numerous times and they never called me back to confirm an appointment for me.

Listen, I’m not one to write reviews on Unilocal. In fact, I have a food review blog where I post really nice things about great places. But Uptowne Girl really ground my gears. I bit my tongue after my first horrible experience, but after this one? I HAVETOSAVETHEOTHERS! Bought a Groupon, like my fellow one-star reviewers, and I went in to use it in the fall and actually had a wonderful experience. The girl Alyssa, did a wonderful job(I just got a blowout– I have long, curly hair but wear it straight). She made it smooth and it felt and looked awesome and I got lots of compliments. In fact, I felt so great about it I bought a package of blow outs through the salon… DINGDINGDING– MISTAKE. I went in to use my first blow out from the package during one of our many winter storms. A girl, Perpina(spelling?) she told me her name was did the blow out. SHEWASHORRIBLE. Like, literally she spent two hours on it, and I left looking worse than I did when I came in out of the storm. But then they closed for renovations and a change of management and I thought, okay, maybe Perps is gone and maybe next time Alyssa will be back. WRONGAGAIN. HEREISWHERETOREALLYPAYATTENTION!!! In I go today(after another storm, yikes) and I was greeted by Claudia whose finger was wrapped in a splint. To wash my hair, she wrapped her hand in a latex glove. I mean, would I have rather had a metal splint running through my hair? No, but warning sign number one, methinks. Then, I sit in the chair. Does she ask me what I’m looking for? NOPE. She just starts. And attempts to start to dry my LONG, THICK, CURLY hair starting right with the brush and the blow dryer on high and hot. I am a teacher, not a beautician, but ladies, I have been to many a salon and I know that rule number one with blow outs is to get the WETNESSOUTFIRST. Like to blow dry the hair WITHOUT a brush and get it almost 70% dry and then it will go FASTER, and will make your hair NOT dried out and FRIZZY. So after my experience with Perps(see above), I learned my lesson and SAIDSOMETHING. Her response? A blank stare as if she had no idea what I was talking about. She said, «yeah, with the brush». No. Her«manager», Heather, the only other employee(bye Alyssa, tear,) overheard me asking and HER response was, «well, we all have our own styles». Oh Heather, it’s just not about styles… its about not drastically MESSINGUP somebody’s hair. I say, «Yeah, I just know my hair and I know it cuts the time basically in half. I was here before and was here for about two hours because the person did it this way». «Oh,» Heather said. «Oh». No customer service instinct to say, «But if that’s what you think is best for you…» or something to that effect. Nope. Nada. On the blow dryer went and on, and on, and on. Claudia was brushing my neck just as much as the hair and pulling as hard as I would to start a lawn mower. And my hair was HORRIBLE. Dry, bristly, and disgusting. Frizzy, the ends were gross, and Claudia’s splinted finger couldn’t have felt good after the hour and a half it took her. Finally, Heather must have sensed how bad it was and came in to «save the day» and«fix it» but at that point it was just too late. They acted as if it was my fault for taking so long, no apologies, no thank you, YIKES. If this is the«new management», I’m scared about what this is an improvement from. I think I have THREE more«free» blow outs there, but at this point, I would almost pay to NOT have them touch my head again. Needless to say, I will not be returning, and neither should you. Heather? Claudia? When a client asks for something to be done to THEIR body, just maybe do it? There are probably about 100 salons in Montclair, ladies. Do yourselves a favor and skip this one. Alyssa, wherever you are, good job dodging a bullet, kid.

I had my daughter’s spa party there on Saturday and what a major dissapointment. The service by the owner and«party planner» Patricia was awful, rude and very unproffessional. There was no contract written out so what I was promised the day of the party was all lies. I was told they would provide cupcakes and lemonade for the girls and all the party essentials needed if I was bringing my outside food. This turned into a major fight with Patricia during my daughter’s party. She did not want to supply me with basic items like paper plates, cups and napkins for the adults and was so rude and bitchy that ALL the parents there noticed her behavior. She rudely commented that I was«taking» all her stuff and leaving her with nothing. I was appalled and told her we would discuss this after the party as she was causing a scene at my party! The cupcakes I was told were like the website which were pink and pretty, they turned out to be plain and white. The plates and napkins she did supply were mismatched like they were all leftovers from previous parties. The party was supposed to be a private party and she had an adult doing her hair and moved her to the back for an hour after my party started. The hairdresser that was doing her hair was not tending to my girls that were all waiting for their hair to get done. After a while crazy Patricia told me to forget about our little«miscommunication» and extended the party til we were ready to go. That was because they took forever getting all my girls finished with the services I paid for NOT because she was doing me a favor. In all I was humiliated by this classless and unproffessional place and worst extremely offended by its owner. I would never go back and told all the parents there about such a terrible experience!

Purchased the groupon for single process haircut and blowout. Went in with brown hair and I just wanted to cover my grays. She turned my hair orange, then the owner tried to tell me that’s the color I chose and the stylist told me it looked brown. Another customer said it was very orange. I was almost in tears so they put a toner on it and it turned black with red undertones. I finally had to walk out with wet hair after 2.5 hrs. Even the blowout was a joke. I have never had an experience like this at a salon. I would not recommend

I purchased a Groupon and what a terrible mistake. Came in for single process, haircut and blowout plus a single process. The girl that did my hair was VERY inexperienced, which should have made me get up and walk out right away, but I stayed. The owner was no where to be found for 3+ hours, the two stylists that were there, it was both of their 1st day. They didn’t know anything about the place or even how to answer the phone. The phone rang off the hook for 3 hours and no one ever picked it up, even when they weren’t working with a customer. My haircut was uneven, color brassy and flat and I left with hair color still in my hair in some spots, very sticky. The towels used on another customer were stained with someone else’s hair color(she was just in for a wash and blowout) and I just wanted to come up to her and say«get that gross rag off your shoulders!» The apron that is put on you to cover your clothes from hair color did not cover my back, and I left with hair dye on the back of my shirt. It was such a mess of an operation, I can’t even believe they are open for business. When I asked my stylists if she’s experienced with highlights, she said«Yes, I highlight my friend’s hair». I may have been her first highlight customer. Now I have to find someone to fix the mess she created. Until they get some new stylists, I would stay away, no matter how good the Groupon sounds!

Took my almost 3 year old today for her first haircut. Alyssa did a fantastic job and my daughter was so calm during the haircut. When we checked out, they gave us a certificate with a lock of her hair! The salon is beautiful and we will be back for sure!

Adorable little salon for girls. They do nails, hair, glitter tattoos and facials. The staff is super sweet and your little one will be made to feel like a princess.
