My family(party of 5 including a 2 year old) wanted to try the restaurant since we are new to the community. They decide to give us the smallest table despite having almost no customers. The table can fit a party of 2 they offer to us party of 5. After conversing with the owner it is clearly established that she didn’t want to give us a bigger table no matter. Sensing no common ground we decided to leave to eat somewhere else. To our surprise, the owner chased us down to pay for tea??? The tea that was offered by the same owner earlier without request and which we didn’t drink. We hadn’t even pour the tea yet and she wants us to pay for it(of course we didn’t). This restaurant is a joke and I am never going to come here or recommend this place to anyone because of such poor service. What a disappointment as we came here based on Unilocal recommendations. If I can give no stars I would because they don’t deserve one star.

This is a hidden gem in Monrovia. I tried out this place two weeks ago and was glad I did. It’s the best ramen place in town. The soup was flavorful and the noodle had the perfect texture. I’ll definitely be back for more.

Worst ramen ever. Will not come back. Ramen is not good. Service is not good. Ramen is totally full of msg and flavorless

This space used to be a mom and pop sandwich place(which I never got a chance to dine at). We recently discovered that Moon Cat got this space to have a shop for ramen. I’m pretty sure they share the same kitchen(which is smart). They have a simple menu with ramen, rice and appetizers. We got a miso ramen and the regular ramen. I preferred the miso because the flavor was better. Both bowls had fresh noodles. Even though the shop is small, there was only one server and one chef in the kitchen. Service was friendly, but also very slow. Price wise, the ramen is comparable in price to other ramen places in the SGV. There’s also plenty of street or public lot parking. Since their location is close to the Krikorian movie theater, Friday nights or the weekend might be harder to find parking.

Love this place! The Ramen is delicious… very soothing on those cold days… prices are great for the amount of food you get. the bowl of Ramen is so big most times I cannot finish it.

Best Ramen ever. Large serving size. Service is adequate. The seating space is small but have not had any problems with it. The food is worth it.

I love this place. Its exactly what a local Japanese restaurant should be; small, quant and with first name personal service. The food is what is supposed to be. The price is perfect.

Fits the traditional Japanese ramen theme perfectly. Reminds me the noodle places I’ve been to in Tokyo. They keep the menu minimal ~ Simplistic, tasty, reasonably priced. Oh, and charming location & décor. 5STARS that this is located in Old Town Monrovia:-))!

Flavor are good but very shallow– I think they must use a mix for their soup base. Ordered chicken karage, edamame, and taco rice. Chicken — good. Edameme– good. Taco rice– hmn… I don’t know how I feel about this. The whole restaurant can prolly seat about 16 people but they said that the sushi restaurant is theirs as well so you can sit there and order off of the ramen menu.

Okay, so this was the first time I’ve ever eaten ramen, and I’m sure there are more authentic places to enjoy this dish, but I thought this was pretty darn good — especially since it is conveniently located close to home. Went there for a quick lunch, and we were not disappointed. I can’t even tell you the names of the dishes we sampled — two kinds of soup and also cold noodles. All of the dishes came with a side — a chicken thing and goyzu dumplings. I will definitely try this place again.

I’m a ramen fanatic so let’s just concentrate on the ramen and not the size of the restaurant. Got the miso ramen the first time and these are my thoughts: 1. The soup was bit weak on the miso but overall the flavor is all there — just wish it was a bit stronger. 2. Noodle is your traditional curly yellow egg noodle — well cooked and absorbs the soup well. 3. The chashu was well done — not as salty as traditional Japanese ramen but texture and flavor is good for the everyday ramen enthusiast. 4. Toppings are your usual corn, spinach, bamboo shoots — tasted fresh and good flavor as well. I would come back again.

The space couldn’t be smaller. There are three tables and a small counter. The vibe was kinda weird. They have lots of ramen and surprisingly many vegetarian options. I had the cold ramen with tomato, cucumber, and scrambled egg. The noodles were good but the sauce was really very bland. VERYBLAND. We had the three vegetable appetizer which we loved. It was a root vegetable in soy sauce, a sweet potato salad, and miso green beans. All were tasty. I like to try new places and I’m glad I tried it but I don’t think I’ll go back.

It’s nice to see a ramen shop in Monrovia for once. The next door sushi shop expanded their business next door; however, they are not connected… at least the building isn’t. You can still order sushi from next door and they will bring it to you. I’m not sure about ordering ramen from the sushi shop though. They have the original choices: shoyu, shio, miso, and tonkotsu ramen. They are all good and they like to put a lot of spinach in it if you get tonkotsu ramen. Each has an option of a combo with fried rice, dumplings, and taco rice. Yes…, I said it, taco rice. I personally haven’t ordered it yet nor have I seen anyone ordered it, but I’d imagined to be an unwrapped bean and cheese burrito… I don’t know though ahaha. The shop is in downtown Monrovia so good luck finding public parking.

Delicious ramen and fantastic service! I came here on a Friday evening with my family. I ordered Miso ramen while the rest got Tonkotsu. It was the best ramen I’ve ever had! We also tried out the taco rice, and it was pretty damn good. You can also order some sushi from MoonCat Sushi Bistro! The guy that was serving us was very outgoing, kind, and very helpful with the menu. I would definitely be back here. I’d love to try out the rest of their ramen and sushi!

The ramen is a solid 2 stars. The server was extremely fast and pleasant so I bumped up for the really friendly service. If you’ve had ramen from Daikokuya or Tsujita out in LA, or even local places like Yukinoya or Shinsengumi, you will leave here disappointed if you expect that quality. I hate to say it, but I would take Ajisen ramen over this any day(and it’s far cheaper). I really wanted to love this place because I live 2 minutes from it, but I was holding out hope that it would be a hidden gem in Monrovia. We ordered the tonkotsu ramen combos, with karaage and gyoza respectively. The ramen noodle itself is fine, it’s the thick curly type and the texture is firm. The chashu is not horrible as well, thin and tender. The broth is what leaves a lot to be desired and if you know ramen, the broth is the star of the show. Mooncat’s tonkotsu broth lacks the porkiness that defines a good tonkotsu. It is somehow completely dilute tasting, yet so salty at the same time. I really can’t put my finger on the taste but it’s not well rounded and it’s missing some essential flavors. I had to douse it with chili oil to bring some kind of depth to the broth. The karaage and gyoza were alright and I would order it on the side, but nothing I would specifically return for. Don’t come here expecting the quality you would at other ramen places. Drive 10 minutes over to Yukinoya in Arcadia for a much more satisfying fix.

Yay! Finally a good ramen place in the area from the people who own mooncat sushi! Right next door they opened a quaint ramen shop with great service and great food. Offering to tonkatsu, miso, shoyu homemade broths — had the shoyu and tonkatsu and both were great! Ramen was fresh with boiled spinach, char siu that wasn’t fatty and very tender. They also have nice gyoza and karage. I just wished they also had chahan(fried rice) to go with the ramen but it is still good. Instead they do have«taco rice» which is an okinawan favorite and is what exactly it says. Taco meat, cheese and lettuce on white rice. Which is good but the meat was a little sweeter than I would like it(but Japanese style sweet). Also beer and calpico on the menu. Simple menu, plenty of parking, great service, outdoor and indoor seating and reasonable prices. Nice addition to old town monrovia and the area! Great sushi next door at their mooncat sushi!

First time having ramen, and it was really good. Cute and small little place. It wasn’t very busy that day, so it was ok. Not sure how i would feel if it was packed in there. My only complaint was that my soup wasn’t hot enough. I like my food pipping hot, so i would expect my soup, especially, to be hot. I had the tonkotsu, i enjoyed all of it except the ginger was very strong. Next time ill have it without.

I was pleasantly surprised! Broth was very good! They have a small menu, but that’s a good thing! They do ramen, and they do it well. I ordered the Miso ramen with ½ Taco Rice combo. My daughter ended up eating most of the noodles and I had the Taco Rice(that was quite filling). I want to try the tonkatsu ramen next! if you need some variety, you can order some sushi from next door.

It’s nice to have a local ramen shop in the Arcadia/Monrovia area, especially being a lover of ramen myself. But only about 3 sips into the bowl did I realize I’d rather hit up Yukinoya over on Santa Anita/Duarte for a quick fix. The tonkotsu broth felt diluted and tasted fairly salty. It ended up giving off an odor that reminded me of seawater. What was even more mediocre was the tough, chewy pork slice that was passed off as chasu. Honestly, the hand noodles were the only redeeming aspect of the ramen bowl, but I would not go back unless the broth and chasu are improved upon.

Ever since we heard the wonderful folks at MoonCat Sushi were opening a ramen place next door to their sushi bistro, we knew we just had to try it. All I can say is WHAT A TREAT! For my first time out, I went with the tonkotsu variety, and boy was I glad I did. Silky, flavorful broth, noodles with just the right amount of chew and delicious toppings — this is the good stuff! Our hosts were charming and gracious as always. If you haven’t tried MoonCat yet, GO. NOW. Really. But save me a seat.
