Mr. Benny’s Steak And Lobster House

Loosing its luster! Have been a patron for many years but the last few visits have become more and more disappointing. Started with having to wait a half hour for our reservation. They have become increasingly cheap with their bar service. Smallest pours in the area with downtown prices. In fact last night I questioned the bartender as to whether or not there was any booze in my glass or if it was the brand I called for. My favorite ribs were overdone and dry. To their credit they still have some of the greatest waitresses around. Probably will give it one my chance.

Best place we went to in a long time. The food was outstanding and so was the service. We had the crab legs and steak and lobster. Beautiful place but listening to Frank Sinatra music made the atmosphere even better. This reminds me of the supper clubs we used to go to many years ago. Loved it!

One of our favorite places. Never disappointed and tonight was no exception. Food and service were superb. Lobster, filet, and crab legs were what we dined on. All were amazing. Service was friendly and professional. Looking forward to our next time back.

Beautiful décor. We went on a Sunday evening. Not crowded but not empty either. The service was outstanding. Wish I could remember servers name here to commend her. The filet and porterhouse were quality and cooked to perfection. And unlike all these ridiculous steak places that charge alacarte for sides prices include salad and potato. We did upgrade to double baked. Definitely worth it. The house wine was only $ 1 cheaper than the premium by the glass so go for the premium. They even sang happy anniversary to old hubby and me and brought out complimentary peppermint ice-​cream for each of us with candles. Nice touch. Will be back.

Seems to be progressively going downhill. Multiple friends have had reservation problems and made to wait long periods. 2 hours for a friend’s birthday dinner. We had the same problem and had I not double checked we wouldn’t have had one either.
The bigger concern was getting served a raw steak. Cold inside, bloody and red. Minimal apologies, wanted to re cook steak and we actually had to ask for a new one. Come on, really. We’re spending good money and you want to reheat it?
Last straw for this was no offer to remove it from the bill. You served someone raw meat and didn’t even think of that? I don’t expect anything for free bit our bill was over $ 400 and at least something would have been a thought. Maybe the birthday girls dessert for free? Something? Maybe a heartfelt apologie?
We always really liked Mr. Bennys but I’m doubtful if we’ll return anymore.

I love Mr. Benny’s! The food is cooked perfect and the staff treat you well, they are very professional! I also love that Mr. Benny comes around and shakes your hand and makes sure he tells the guy you’re with that she is the boss!!!

This is a steak house, they are supposed to know how to cook a steak. I ordered a medium well done filet, when it was presented at the table it was raw. Beofre I could object the waitress took it away to finish cooking. A few minutes later the steak wa returned still well under cooked (red inside — not pink). I then refused the steak, and after some comments by the waitress asking to try and cook it again, I just said take it off the bill, I don’t want it. Cooking it again it would be juiceless and tough as shoe leather.
After some time the waitress returned near us and I remarked that I hadn’t seen a manager come by our table. Shortly thereafter the gentlemen that prepared our salads and asked if everything was OK. He didn;t introduce himself so I don’t know if he was the manager. He advised that the steak was off the bill, but didn’t offer anything for the inconvience — no cocktail, nothing.
Never going back.

Unbelievably bad service wasn’t even able to sit down and eat before we left. Made a reservation, waited a half hour after the time they gave and letting in 2 groups of WALK INS which included a group of 8 and a group of 2, politely asked one host how much longer completely ignored us then asked the 2^nd host who looked down at the sheet then walked away without saying anything, when she finally returned she went and talked and joked with one of her friends completely ignoring us.

The food was fantastic. The steak was good (not the best i have ever had) and the crab legs were really good. The salad was a typical salad and the dessert was good. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is extremely friendly. I would definitely recommend stopping here for some good food and a great time.

Visited on 08/​28/​2015. Sea Bass entrée was bland and unseasoned. The Broccoli side was small, bland, and a lazy, cheap addition to a Sea Bass entrée. The Cottage Fries side was a lazy, cheap addition to a Sea Bass entrée. The best part of meal was the appetizer, Cajun Shrimp Gumbo Soup (cup size). If we go back, it will be for a big bowl of that soup, and that is it. Including tip, we paid $ 137.00 for two people. The food is overpriced and not worth what your paying. I expect better quality food for $ 69.00 a person. Your actually paying for the fancy building and classy décor. Service from Roxanne was very good. Met owner or manager in men’s room, said hello, and his response, in his joking kind of way, was «.. . not interested in hearing any complaints…». Next time, just say «hello» back, if you have nothing better to say to your customers. I recognized him as the owner/​manager because his pictures are in the front lobby.

5 stars all the way! I love Mr. Benny’s! All their food is fantastic. The service is impeccable and Benny himself is always around to greet his patrons. Can’t go wrong with this place!

We came here again last night. My ratings do not change. The service and atmosphere are still great. The food is still good. One thing to note is that the potatoes augratin are about the best I ever had. There is some secret ingredient that I cannot place but it really makes it special. We had shrimp cocktail and oysters on the half shell which were very good. We then had a filet mignon and the Delmonico rib-​eye. Both good. The place does bring in a good crowd, mostly regulars, so reservations are suggested. I am raising my rating of this place based on the items I ordered were more of the portions you would expect for the price.

I’ve gone here with my husband twice. Ordered surf and turf both times. Now these were special occasions and we were intending to splurge. However, round two was terrible and we will not be back.
Service was awful… for these prices you’d not expect to sit with an empty Glass of wine for twenty minutes, yet we did. Food was beyond slow. I ordered my steak medium well and it arrived pink. Not wanting to complain, my husband switched with me to oblige. Lobster, was the biggest I have ever seen. It literally hung over our plates, must’ve been 3lbs. So you can imagine our thought process. Give the young looking non regulars here the 3lb lobsters at market price and keep the regulars happy with the normal sized. Absolutely how this place operates. We looked around at the other customers eating lobster, and our plates looked like genetic mutations. We probably could have flown a red eye to Maine that night and hand picked our own for the same price.
I’ll never go back.
If you arrive here every Saturday at 5, I have no doubt you are treated like a king, and even with dessert you are back home in time to watch murder she wrote.
But if you are under the age of 40 avoid this place at all costs.

5 stars! Another FABULOUS meal! Again we had a WONDERFUL time! Peggy and the rest of the staff were GREAT! They have again been a part of making our Mother’s Day special!

My boyfriend and I went here for date night. We’ve been here twice before, and obviously liked it enough to come back. We went a wednesday night, not busy at all. I ordered the ladies fillet and my bf got the Bone in ribeye. They don’t season the steaks much however the waitress did mention that you can have them topped however you’d like (blue cheese, garlic butter.) It was very good, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. I give it four stars just because of the price. It is very expensive. Maybe just not the top notch best quality food for that price.

The family had a special birthday to celebrate. And we wanted to stay local in Mokena. Having never been to Mr. Benny’s, we thought with all the positive reviews to give this place a try.
And we were not disappointed! Every single thing we ordered. With exception to a messed up drink mix. Was perfection. I had the bone in New York strip steak. That was cooked to medium, just how medium should be. Several family members had the over a pound of cut for you king crab legs. They were the size you get in Las Vegas Casinos when the house wants you to stay and keep losing your money to them.
Atmosphere was quiet by my standards. You can hear the crowd murmur words. But it fades in the background. Easy to have a conversation with your tablemates. The ambience of the place was friendly, yet had a old stone restaurant charm. Chairs have wheels on them, and this simple setup makes life so much easier!
They have a fully stocked bar, and the bar area looked upscale with only 1 TV playing something sporty. I’m not a bar peraon, but this looked like it could be a fun place for a few hours.
They have a lot of not on the menu specials, so ask for them!
With drinks, and not limiting our choices on the menu, our table of 5 ended up with meal price about 60 per person. Felt like the right price for the quality of food we had, and the excellent professional service we received.
We will be back for more special day celebrations!

Well, we ate at Mr. Benny’s for mother’s day Sunday evening. Once again, a first class experience.
First, like a schmuck, I called to get a reservation at 10 AM on Mother’s Day Sunday!
The young lady on the phone was hesitant at first to book my table of six for 7:30 because they were all booked up. With a little bit of begging she made an exception and locked in the reservation! Thank you!
It is always pleasant to see Joy (Benny’s wife) manning the front desk. She is the sweetest woman you’ll ever meet!
Once again, Mr. Benny was walking around and chatting with all of the tables. I honestly believe that he knows everyone in Illinois! We waved him over to chat and he hung out for 15 minutes telling stories and beaming about his new grandchild! He told the waitress to get his special appetizers and she returned in about 30 seconds with some homemade sausage, imported parmesan cheese and Olives in Italian Olive oil. To die for!
I ordered my favorite entrée, the Osso Bucco. This veal shank in a tomato gravy is always cooked to perfection.
Thanks again for a fabulous experience!

Very disappointed.
My chicken and pasta dish looked like something Id made, so I could have stayed home. Flavourless, dripping wet pasta with a chunk of horrid over cooked chicken laid on top. YUCK and expensive too.
The staff are friendly but constantly returning to the table which I really dislike.
I wont be returning.
