Really great atmosphere, great steaks, medium prices… one of my wife and I’s new favorites. Go through the bar area towards the back, there’s a greeter there for the resturant… enjoy.

Great experience! Found this place on a road trip, and the staff was very friendly. They even let us bring our dog inside — very dog friendly! Great beer and food! Will be coming back to check out some bands, since they have live music on Saturdays.

After reading some reviews about the whitewater the wife and I set out for our dining experience. I really enjoy going to new places experiencing new food and sights. I think I set my hopes too high for the old hotel. The Sunday BBQ was dry, nothing really flavorful. My wife hand breaded pork. I looked at her dish and new before she tried it there was no thought into this dish. The breaded pork smelt like fish,(fried in same oil). Stay home on this one folks your better off firing up your own BBQ and not wasting the gas. Definitely not going back for seconds.

Came for the Sunday BBQ, after waiting for the«slower than a snail» cashier, I find out that they are out of what I wanted. I went up to the bar to order the chicken strips with Balsamic drizzle. I had it before and it was excellent! This time, it was really greasy. To make it edible, I had to pick off the breaking which left very little chicken. I love the ambience and the music was good.

Great food at reasonable prices in an old hotel in downtown Moke Hill. How much better can it get than that???

Even after reading the reviews which had lured me here, we were nicely surprised, and enjoyed the whole experience. Service was warm and attentive, unpretentious, yet knowledgeable. We had two appetizers, an artichoke and mushroom warm dip with local tasty bread, and a very nicely fried mushroom dish. Mushrooms were cooked perfectly in a lightly crispy batter. I had a house salad and asked for their pesto dressing, which was quite tasty. The chicken Marsala was rich and carefully cooked, the chicken tender being just that – not dried out! Very good quality meat for the prime rib. Them we had a homemade cheesecake(cherry), and an also house made German chocolate cake. The time was relaxing, romantic in the old but inviting dining room. It’s definitely worth a drive from Jackson or beyond; we’ll be returning soon!

Great food in a beautiful historic 1860’s atmosphere. Outside seating on a porch facing the backyard of the property is available during nice weather. 150 year old orange trees cover the area in a nice fragrance. Plenty of comfortable indoor seating, and you can even eat in the historic bar area if you are into the real atmosphere of the hotel. It seems magical that the chef could prepare food of this quality out of a small kitchen area in this Mother Lode era hotel. I sampled four different dishes off the Sunday evening menu and they were all fantastic, with prices that are cheap for the quality served. The original hotel bar located in a adjoining large room serves up a great selection of quality beer, wine, and mixed drinks. Service was perfect, food was perfect, and the atmosphere made for a unique and very enjoyable dining experience. Nearby historic shops are fun to explore and meandering through this 150 year old hotel, which at one time housed the county courthouse for Calaveras County, really gives the visitor the feel of what living in the 1800’s in the Gold County might have been like. If the Whitewater was located close-in to the Sacramento area, we would be seeing hour long waiting lines for dinner. Visiting in Mokelumne Hill you will find no waiting and a very enjoyable dining experience with superb gourmet quality food. A true hidden gem located on the original Main Street of MH, just off of Highway 49.

We ate here one Friday evening a few weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. I had the Chicken Marsala and my sister had the Portobello Pasta, we traded tastes and both were delicious. They had an ample wine list, we each chose a zin, good choice. Our server, Lori, was friendly and attentive, telling us about the hotel and inviting us to amble thru the grounds. We ate on the back deck overlooking three huge orange trees and the rear of another very old gold rush building. We look forward to another visit to this little gem in Moke Hill.

Have been coming here since before they renamed the dinner house to Whitewater Grill & Saloon. Just when it all was called Hotel Leger. Honestly, I’ve never had a bad experience here! Anything off of the menu, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Bacon Bleu Bistro and Chicken Marsala are two of our favorites. The Prime Rib is always excellent as well, though get there early as it can be sold out! We’ll always keep coming back because that’s just how good it is! Oh yea, one other thing, eat lots of their bread!!!

Most unexpected AWESOME impromptu dinner ever! My mother and I were looking at hotel venues to house a large family group for an upcoming wedding of mine that is in the area. The Whitewater Grill & Saloon is attached to the Hotel Leger that we were looking at. We were not expecting to spend so much time at this location, but dinner time rolled around and we were there and hungry! Normally I prefer to check Unilocal before trying something brand new, but the atmosphere was amazing so we went for it! The bar tender Richy was extremely engaging and humorous and attentive to our needs. We had chosen to eat dinner in the bar with our dinner time bloody marys, which were also great! Since it was a Sunday evening they were not extremely busy, but he still made the evening great! My mother ordered the Sherry Berry Pork and I ordered the Chicken and Butternut Squash Ravioli. DELICIOUS! The Sherry Berry sauce was not over powering it was the perfect amount of sweetness that played off the pork well. My Butternut squash ravioli was out this world! butternut squash ravioli is one of my favorite dishes so when I see it, I order it! The chicken was super tender moist and the flavor of the sauteed vegetables was nothing like I have ever tasted before! Everything combined, the food, the customer service and at the atmosphere together definitely make this my new favorite dinner place! :-)

Food and service was wonderful. The homemade clam chowder was delicious, the bread and dipping sauce was yummie. Then the main course; I was getting full but it was so good! You will get great service, delicious food, and plenty of it. I will definitely be back.

One of our favorite places to eat! Everything is excellent but we always seem to go back for our favorites, Bacon Blue Bistro Beef and Chicken Marsala and share so we can enjoy both! The homemade bread is delicious with the balsamic dipping oil, and their house wine is Stevenot out of Murphys, very good! Nice atmosphere too. Jessica, our server is always very attentive and so nice. She made our dining experience very enjoyable and the check in offer of a free glass of wine?! How can you go wrong coming here?! Excellent all the way around.

I have been going to this restaurant coming from Sutter Creek for a few years now. Always enjoyed the food and the wait staff and atmosphere. Since they opened as «whitewater grill» hasn’t been as pleasant. The service is not so great. The food, however, is still good quality and reasonable prices. There is no hostess — the new people seem inexperienced and we had to wait 10 minutes for service and then another 10 for our drinks — this has happended twice now… Seems to need better management. I will visit again but if on the third try it doesn’t improve I’ll cross it off of my favorite list.

The chef is really nice so I hate to give anything less than 5 stars but service at the Whitewater Grill was *extremely* slow and restaurant was not that busy. The food was lackluster. 3 stars is being generous. I ordered the salmon. It came on a bed of plain-yes, plain-white rice. It had a caper sauce and had been salted very heavily. There were some vegetables on the side that had been over-sauteed to the point of limpness/soggyness. The portion of fish was not large-for $ 18 I was expecting a slightly larger piece. My side salad was light on dressing & the lettuce was limp-kinda sad when you mess up a side salad & I didn’t even finish it. Mr Q had the«bacon bleu bistro» which was an odd combination of sliced steak with some blue cheese sauce and bacon bits on it. He said it was good. I didn’t get his feedback on the salad. Quite honestly I’m not sure if I would dine here again.

Excellent food. Great atmosphere. We stayed at the hotel twice in 2013 and ate dinner there each time. The waitstaff was very sweet each time, but perhaps a bit inexperienced. They were attentive, but not very knowledgeable about the menu items. The chef is quite talented and the food is divine. We had prime rib which was a very large serving and so good. The desserts were incredible. We also had drinks in the saloon and attended a costume party and had the best time. We cannot wait to go back. We love the Hotel Leger, and the Whitewater Grill and Saloon.

As you know I love this historic hotel,(See my review on the Hotel Leger), so it is very convenient that they have a restaurant on site!!! I came downstairs for an early dinner on my first night here. I was greeted by the friendly bar keep who asked me if I wanted to dine in the saloon or dining room. I wanted a little quiet so I choose the dining room. He said the waitress would be with me shortly. I liked that they had a door between the dining room and saloon, especially if you just want to chill out the dining area is nice and quiet. The waitress followed a couple of minutes later, took my drink order and let me know the specials of the day. I had it in the back of my head I was going to have fish and chips here, except I couldn’t find it any where on the menu :(So I settled for Pesto prawn pasta which was a creamy pesto, pasta, prawns and tons of veggies. YUMM! I also had a really good side dinner salad with ranch followed by a delicious piece of New York cheesecake. Later on that night they had live music in the saloon area! Service is good, prices are reasonable, this is a great place to eat and hang out at!
