I was referred to a different endodondist who couldn’t schedule me for two weeks. Like the previous reviewer stated I was in agony and I needed to get this taken care of. Dr. S.‘s office staff here is amazing, and they questioned me very carefully about the pain. They suggested I call my dentist and have an antibiotic prescription called just in case it flared up. Unfortunately it did flare up in the evening, but I had the antibiotics on hand — thank goodness the staff had given me a heads up about that.
Dr. S. is really good at explaining the procedure, and although I was freaking out he was able to describe what was going to happen very well. Once he started working he was very meticulous and I knew I didn’t have to worry about the root canal being done properly. I walked out of the office with no pain ready to get on with my day. Thank you everyone at Dr. Shinkwin’s office!

I was referred to Dr. Shinkwin by my new dentist after receiving the unfortunate news that my cavity was so severe, no mere filling would do; it was root canal time. I was seriously nervous — this was my first (and hopefully last!) root canal, and since the phrase ‘root canal’ has become a byword for TOTAL FREAKING AGONY, this was *not* an appointment I was looking forward to.
What a pleasant surprise, then, to have an experience that was about as ideal as one can have with a dentist. I was welcomed in by the doctor’s very adept and friendly assistant, who questioned me about my issues and began a pre-​exam to determine whether a root canal was actually necessary, including x-​rays. Then Dr. Shinkwin joined in on the exam and questioned me himself. I felt that he really listened to my account of my issues and paid attention my concerns.
I was really impressed by the way he explained every step he was taking as he went along and what each new instrument he was putting in my mouth was for, all the while keeping up a steady running patter that was reassuring and helped to distract me. He is METICULOUS both in the way he performs the procedure and about managing a patient’s pain — far from being in total freaking agony as I’d feared, it was all was very nearly painless. The pain management began even before I got my numbing shots, with an anesthetic gel in the relevant areas, so that I didn’t even feel the shots when they were administered. Throughout the procedure, he asked me every few minutes if i was in any discomfort, and if so, here came another shot or more anesthetic liquid. He even has the ability to understand the incoherent grunts you make when you try to talk with your mouth full of dental equipment.;) When it was time for the buildup, he was very careful to make sure my bite was as it should be and took his time to get it done perfectly. This is a doctor who approaches his work with extreme care.
(As an aside — while waiting for my anesthesia to kick in, I overheard a conversation he had with a patient in the next room, where instead of trying to push further procedures on her, he supported her decision to take a wait and see approach to a problem she was having. Since there are plenty of dentists who act more like salespeople on commission than medical professionals, I felt this spoke volumes about how he operates.)
His staff is also extremely efficient, and his assistant was just as skillful and reassuring as he was. I had expected to leave the office miserable, and was surprised to find myself actually feeling pretty upbeat. It might sound weird to say my root canal was awesome, but it was. If you have a choice between Dr. Shinkwin and someone else — pick Dr. Shinkwin!

Dr. Shinkwin and is staff are definitely as good as it gets when it comes to dental work! I visited Dr. Shinkwin and his staff this past week for a root canal. I have had a root canal before and a couple of fillings done with previous dentists. I hate going to the dentist so finding the right dentist has always been hard for me. Well, after having a horrible experience with my last root canal done by another dentist, I was dreading having another root canal, to the point where I was about to say screw it, I’m going to live with this root canal. However, I was referred to Dr. Shinkwin by another dentist who bragged about how great of a specialist Dr. Shinkwin was, and well. all the bragging was true! Dr. Shinkwin was very cautious and handled the procedure with so much care, the root canal was super easy to get done! I seriously didn’t feel any discomfort or pain during and after the procedure. His assistants were very sweet and caring as well! The procedure felt better then getting a simple filling from the previous dentists i’ve been too. I am still shocked! I appreciated all the information and details Dr. Shinkwin was able to provide before every step of the root canal process. I also appreciated the fact that he completed X-​rays, a pre-​exam, and other tests to make sure I actually needed the root canal, instead of taking my primary dentists word, which is important with all the dentistry fraud we hear about! I highly recommend Dr. Shinkwin and his staff for any dental procedure that needs to be completed. You won’t regret it! :D
