Good food, low cost, and great service in a standard café setting I’ll take this any day of the week over a Perkins. We walked down from the Best Western Normandy(3min) Personally I thought the food was just as good as the«Kitchen» at the Normandy and we had larger helpings for a lower cost!

I was all tuned up for breakfast and was looking for LouAnn’s. Found Stone City Café in its place. Located adjacent to the Government Plaza. The place was at 50% capacity at noon. The atmosphere is small town dinerish and I chose countertop seating. A mistake because there’s little knee room. I had the biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were hard and dry, gravy was okay, sausage balls were funny tasting.(maybe turkey?) $ 7.75 with coffee. I wouldn’t have it again. They had daily specials that looked pretty good going to other tables. Probably shouldn’t have strayed, but I’m a sucker for biscuits & gravy. The wait staff was attentive and very pleasant. I’ll give them another shot.

My boyfriend hates this place with a passion, so much he actually called and told them off. They hung up on him because they take customer service super serious. My breakfast: bacon, egg, and cheddar wrap and crispy hashbrowns with an English muffin. Everything was perfectly fine — the egg wrap tasted pretty damn good, the hashbrowns were a little bland, but whatever. Nothing some pepper and Sriracha didn’t fix. And my English muffin was toasted nicely with a little bit of butter. If I was writing this review purely off my food it would have been 3 – 3 ½ stars. But alas, this happened… His breakfast: 2 over easy eggs, bacon, crispy American potatoes, and rye toast. His eggs were over hard, his bacon was practically raw, his crispy potatoes were barely cooked, and his toasted wasn’t toasted. Seriously, they just gave him rye bread. He just stared at his food for 5 minutes, attempted to eat portions of it, and gave up. I have never seen him so irritated over food. We are talking about a man who eats cold egg rolls with hot mustard packets for breakfast. He is the least picky person I know. This place needs to get their shit together. Half of an order being good and right isn’t okay… and hanging up on a customer who has a valid complaint isn’t a good look.

Not terrible but really REALLY basic and kind of boring. Wish we had found Key’s first.

Stone City Café is right across from the Government Center, hidden inside the Thrivent Financial building. Most of the patrons are government workers or employees from the Thrivent Financial building. The layout is spacious and almost feels like a cafeteria, except that the place is decorated with some warm touches, like halloween/autumn decorations along the windows. There are also black and white photographs of Minneapolis on the walls. «Everybody’s Favorite» on the menu, included: Two pancakes, two eggs and two strips of bacon or two sausage links, all for $ 6 bucks! Most other places these days charge $ 10 or more, so this was a great deal. The eggs and pancakes were done right, and the sausages were perfectly juicy & delicious. This is a great breakfast spot, and I’m definitely stopping in again soon.

Very reasonable, tasty variety of items. Now that Peter’s Grill is closed I wanted to see how the Reuben compared. I was delightfully surprised it was piled thick and had a tangy sauce on the side. There was more to the Reuben than Peter’s and about $ 1.80 less. I don’t recall any news release about the change in ownership but glad the menu is about the same, perhaps it is slimmed down a little more now.

Having looked for a breakfast place online near to the Metro Light Rail’s Government Plaza station, I was expecting to find LouAnn’s… this information was outdated though and I was happy to find Stone City Café in its place. A bit outdated and oddly decorated in my opinion, I settled into a table near the window and a view of some of Minneapolis’ skyscrapers. After perusing the menu and it’s very reasonably priced items, I decided on a breakfast sandwich comprised of egg, cheese, and sausage on an english muffin with hash browns. My breakfast companion ordered the same thing along with a cup of coffee. Our waitress was attentive… and was either bored or overly enthusiastic as she offered refills on the coffee constantly. There were only two other tables out of the entire rest of the place occupied and mirrored the non-existent population walking the streets of downtown. Where is everyone in this city?! My plate delivered a well-made breakfast sandwich with lots of flavor and fresh ingredients, the hash browns cooked perfectly. The bill came in between $ 10-$ 14. Ummm… can’t do better than that! Tasty and affordable! Had I found myself in this part of the city again for breakfast I would have stopped in!

I was staying downtown and needed a place to go for breakfast. After reading all of the awesome reviews for Louann’s, I decided to give Stone City Café a try even though there were 0 reviews for it since it changed hands. I walked in and was surprised to be only 1 of 2 people there. Being so dead, maybe I expected service to be a little higher of quality, but that wasn’t the case at all. Service was decent at best. Breakfast was also decent at best. Nothing special by any means. There’s gotta be a better place in downtown
