Been going here for years, always had a great experience. The chicken satay and fried rice is great and definitely ask for extra peanut sauce. Highly regarded local place.

Don’t come here if you could. Average of 2.5star tell the story. I don’t even want to talk about the dish. Horrible taste!

Ordered Panang Curry for delivery. First the driver lost his way because the address he took down was wrong, which is okay. But then after the delay, my order was just less than half the box its supposed to be filled with. Its as if the curry was drained or spilled(not sure if it was the driver again or a restaurant mistake). Even after that much of the curry was full of oil and not worth it.

I had never been to the sawatdee downtown and I was not impressed at all. That said, we got dishes that other people like for the most part. I was not a fan of the massaman or panang curry. I also did not like the green papaya salad, which I usually love. I have actually ordered from here a few times on bitesquad and the food has been better than this past in store visit so I’ll give it two stars. I won’t be coming back anytime soon.

Worst restaurant to be serving Thai food in Twin Cities. I ordered the Phở soup, broth taste as if it was from a can bought from the oriantal store. Noodles were a bit hard to chew. I couldn’t finish the bowl. I only ate half of it because I didn’t want to waste my money and I’m not the type who would ask for my money back.

The Thai iced tea was good and the server was really lovely. But… beyond that I wouldn’t highly recommend. In town for business and the hotel said this was a good choice. Meh. I ordered the Chicken Satay and Chicken Pad Thai, both pretty standard(you can say boring, it’s okay) choices. The Satay was tasty enough but a bit strange and the skewers vs peanut sauce & cucumber salad ratio was off. Plenty of chicken for 2 people but the sauce cup had maybe 2 Tbsp and the salad cup was ¼ filled with vinegar and had maybe 5 little pieces of cucumber floating around. As for the Pad Thai, it was plenty of food but nothing that I couldn’t live without. Had one piece of chicken that tasted odd and after that I just couldn’t get past it. I cut my losses and asked for the check.

Horrible service and staff! Telling their guests to hurry up with their meal as they were going to close in an hour, before even we could order .Told the server to bring a little smile on the face, but perhaps she doesn’t get paid for her job. People go to restaurants to relax, enjoy and eat comfortably, not rush. this location doesn’t know what hospitality means. Didn’t even wanted to eat after this. tried to let the manager know, but she had a blank face.

One of the worst Thai meals I’ve ever had. Used to be very good, though extremely spicy, even when requested mild. That’s not unexpected from a Thai restaurant. Now, it is just, plain, bad. An example? I ordered Tom Yum soup. It did not have straw mushrooms, but substituted button mushrooms, but when they substituted jalapeño chilis for Thai chis? It didn’t even taste like Tom Yum. I said enough of you can’t get soup right. Unfortunately, other nasty dishes that hardly tasted like Thai food had been ordered. Apparently the kitchen staff adjusted the flavors to meet their own tastes, because it didn’t resemble the soup that I’ve enjoyed since the 80’s. Avoid this place. Once good, but now bad! Other dishes were equally mutated and cheapened or adjusted. The only thing unchanged was the mildly-high price for Thai food. That’s okay, if the food is good, and at least Thai. You could find better take out. It is not what it was. Sad

Carry out is decent. Great location, friendly staff. Outdoor seating would be nice. Can’t go wrong with pad thai

Stopped in at Sawatdee for dinner and avert or two. The draught beer is warm and did not have very good taste to it, maybe the tap lines need a good cleaning? This was my second time there and I must admit the massaman was great. I ordered a number two spice which at the St. Paul location is like a number 3. At the Minneapolis I would say it’s a 1. The space could use an update. Does not feel very welcoming. Would I go back? Yes, for the massaman. I’d probably order a bottles beer next time.

Three stars is considered«A-OK» on Unilocal, and I would say that about this place. Others have complained about the service and I experienced some of the same things — the server was slow to check on me, took a looong time to refill my water, was gone for very long stretches, and didn’t clear my plates very quickly. Aside from the attentiveness-deficit, the waitress was polite, smiled, and happily recommended things when I asked. As far as the food: I ordered the Supenn’s fresh rolls for an app — and they were disappointing. I didn’t taste a lot of the fresh herbs I expected and there just wasn’t that much flavor overall. I had the green curry w/chicken for the entrée; the chicken was all dark meat and it was absolutely some of the most tender chicken I have ever had at a thai place. They did a nice job on the spice too — I ordered two peppers out of five and it was pleasantly hot, but not too hot. The mango and sticky rice for dessert was like most other places — and I find it to be very comforting, so it was delicious. The bottom line: The food is okay or great, depending on what you order, but don’t go there is you are in a hurry or if you expect ultra-attentive service.

Amazing service by the server Ms. Juliann. I have dined here a couple of times. The servers are awesome. Ms. Juliann was my server last Thursday while I had lunch. She ensured at all times that I was completely satisfied. She served me additional rice so that I could finish my curry soup. From start to finish, she was excellent. I had the #5(Chicken Satay) and ensured I had an additional serving of the peanut sauce since I still had plenty of chicken. The Green Curry Beef(medium hot) was a perfect blend of beef and curry. I topped of my meal with Mango and sticky rice. I almost stayed for dinner since the service and food was that good! I’ll be back!

I came with the expectation of having just an ok dinner but I was wrong. The beef pad thai was a disaster. It was way too sweet and the beef was over cooked so it tasted like paper. Have noone to blame but my lazy butt for not going elsewhere to get food. I was here 6 or 7 years ago. It was bad then. It is worse now.

What’re these haters on about? Sawatdee is a classic and although imperfect it’s pretty awesome. I love the tom kha gai– coconut soup with chicken and oyster mushrooms. I also think that their other dishes are usually really good, too. The service is usually pretty good, but sometimes they forget to fill water or bring out the spice rack. I’ve been going to this place pretty much all my life and I’ve never had a bad experience. The ambiance is also really nice. I’m sad to see so many negative reviews, Sawatdee does not deserve that.

Food was good and per usual. My friend I were a bit dismayed by the service – no one was visible when we walked in the restaurant at 6:30pm. Our server was kind of rude(example: my friend asked if she could get the spring rolls with just shrimp, no pork, and he looked at her like she was a freak and asked her incredulously if she expected him to pick every piece of pork out for her. He could have just said they are pre-made, so we are unable to accommodate requests instead of copping an attitude). There was a sign on our table about a cooking class. We asked our server if he could tell us more about it. Again, we got the incredulous look like we were stupid and a very sarcastic response of: :You come… you cook food… what don’t you get?” We had to prompt him for information like cost, times, availability, how to sign up, etc. Also, he brought me a to-go box, which was great, but then I was left to my own devices to pack my food in it. Maybe I’m high maintenance, but I really like it when a restaurant will package your leftovers for you – then I don’t risk making a mess on myself or the table. I like Sawatdee and will be back, but we were just turned off by the experience. Kinda made me wonder if that’s why at 6:30pm we were the only diners in the whole place…

This is a long overdue review. I had dinner at Sawatdee for a friend’s birthday dinner; I had to pay for parking; the service was slow — this is all I recalled about this place. Usually, I have a pretty good memory for food and restaurants, and if I don’t remember anything about a restaurant, it was probably one of the okay-but-not-good places. I vaguely recall that it was expensive and just meh. Maybe if you are around the area. Otherwise, please treat yourself to On’s Thai Kitchen.

I used to live a few blocks Washington Avenue, as a broke college student on a perpetual time crunch I was looking for a place to get reasonably priced food and quick service. I went to Sawatdee one day on a whim and stumbled upon the best egg rolls I could ever dream up. I have to admit I’m not too hot on their service but I couldn’t care less because these egg rolls gave me life. They are huge and come in an order of two with a delicious sweet sauce. They are moist and packed with so much flavor you’ll spend more time eating and less time wondering how they did it. If you’re looking for something to rock your taste buds, well then you’re welcome.

I’ve ordered food and dined there quite a few times. This place is outstanding. I love that I get the choice to either dine in or dine out. Either way, the food quality is outstanding. They serve it to me in a timely manner. Only one time did I ever have to wait any longer than ten minutes. The people there are friendly, and they do a great job at what they do. My favorite dish is the rainbow trout plate. The plates are more than reasonably priced. Because of the large amount of food I get, I always end up taking half of it in a box home with me. Then I end up eating the rest of it at home as another meal. It says on the menu that only some of their foods have a spicy level where you can choose how spicy you want it. They’ll work around it with any plate if you ask, even though it’s not mentioned on the menu. At least, they’ve done it with me.

Being a bit of a food-delivery slut, I’ve never actually stepped foot in the restaurant, itself. No matter, this is still my go-to Thai place in the Twin Cities. My one piece of advice: get the red curry. It’s perfectly spicy, without ruining your food, and the use of bamboo shoots is making my mouth water as I write this review. It has chicken, bamboo, and red/green peppers, and the sauce itself is perfect for everything — I even used the leftover curry to marinate ground beef I made for tacos the day after. Through GrubHub, their delivery gets to you insanely fast. Perhaps this is because they overshoot the expected time, so when I prepare my hunger for 50 minutes after my ordering time and they come in 20, I have no emotion to give but sheer happiness. I’ll have to go to the location someday, with friends, and order more than just my «I need Thai, and I need it now» menu item of choice. Until then, take my word for it that Sawatdee makes curry to be reckoned with.

I took my parents here for dinner. We ordered the jalopeno cheese wontons. The waitress delivered the wontons in a timely manner. We bit into the wontons and the waitress popped back over and ask if we order the jalopeno wontons because the ones we were eating were just regular cheese wontons. She then proceeded to say that I didn’t say jalopeno. Then, the real customer service started. She asked us to dump the bitten wontons that were on our small plates on to the bigger plate that she took away and threw in the trash. I have never been so disrespected in my life. I had a bad experience here a while back. I thought I would give them one more chance. Unbelievable… I don’t know how they sleep at night.
