Peeps Hot Box

Really good bahn mi sandwiches along with spicy tasty chicken wings. They also had a Mexican dish and battered asparagus with curry sauce that sounded really good. I would eat here again

At the Bad Weather grand opening, we experienced our first tasting of this food truck. The photos online and descriptions on their menu board were SUPER enticing. The wait was 30 mins– we were not at all upset by this, good food is worth the wait! However, they did not deliver… we ordered an open-​faced taco (they forgot to add the chicken!!!) and a Bahn Mi Sandwhich. The open-​faced taco was pretty nice, but it seemed stingy on the salsa and it was NOT what I ordered and that was disappointing. The sandwich was just off. It had all the elements to create a great sandwich, but the pork was TOUGH AF and the pickled veggies were sparce and tasted off.

If I were to see this truck lined up with others, I’ll admit I may just walk by as both the look of the truck and the menu didn’t particularly grab me. Then I realized that they are doing it right. No crazy over the top truck, no extensive menu coming out of a shoe box. They have just a couple things on the menu and they are all GREAT. Remember when food trucks did that?
Peeps was parked outside of Tattersall on a Friday night and I grabbed the banh mi and the huaraches. Oh my damn. The banh mi was simple as it should be yet full of flavor with great bread. The huarache… though difficult to eat… was my favorite. Perfect amount of sear on the chicken, light but filling. Wouldn’t hesitate to get the same stuff again.

Someone else in our party who agreed but ate them anyway. The Bahn Mi, however, was the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten in my life. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it. The roll was chewy yet soft and the meat was lean. Rooster mayo was awesome. It was SO SO good! Will look for you guys again. Thank you!

YUM! Pork chop sandwich, huaraches, and cream cheese wontons… we tried them all and all were delish. And, as someone else noted… service is super friendly. With the plethora of food trucks it’s sometimes hard to know which one to select… but you won’t go wrong if you choose Peeps Hot Box!

Generally, my office does Food Truck Fridays, but I’ve had to go out on the «wrong» day of the week a few time for Peeps (and break my rule about visiting a new truck every time). I had the panzanella one of the days it was on special, and was really happy with it. I’ve been back twice since then, and both times have had the chicken huaraches. The BLT and cream cheese wontons looked amazing, but I couldn’t convince myself to pass up a meal as good as I had before.
The huaraches are one of the top-​3 food truck meals I’ve had. They are flavorful without being heavy, and spicy without being overwhelming. And given how good the panzanella was, I’d trust everything on the menu to be great.

This is more of a mobile kitchen than a food truck. Jessi & Charlie really know how to cook and everything is prepared and made to order from their incredible worldly menu! It’s very fair priced for the portion size. I’ll be back as often as possible!

Let me start off by saying I have truck food for lunch every single day. I’ve tried most items from all the trucks in downtown mpls. Peeps hotbox is easily one of the very best trucks. The Chicken and Black Bean combo Huaraches is a MUST TRY. Every bite is bursting with flavor and very reasonably priced. People will definitely be lining up for this once the word spreads. Definitely need a knife and fork to eat it though. The pork-​chop sandwich is also one of the best bahn-​mi type sandwiches I’ve ever had. The service is also top-​shelf. They are very friendly and proud of what they are doing… for good reason. I’ll be having lunch from Peeps multiple times a week.

I’ll totally throw out the first review for Peeps Hotbox and it’s a great one. First off, the level of friendliness that they have is superb. They also have examples of their food out on their shelf if you’re curious what it is you’re actually getting. Solid.
The food. I’ve only at the Pork Chop Sandwich. It’s a super great, ridiculously good twist on a banh mi sandwich with super thinly sliced pork chop, pickled veggies, cilantro, jalapeño, and some nice tasting sauce on a CRAZY soft and perfect french baguette thingy… like really soft on the inside and a nice crisp on the outside. Well done.
The other food looks great, but I haven’t had the opportunity to explore them… more to come.
Overall, it’s a great quick choice.
