I watched the oddest thing yesterday. The owner threw out a regular for no apparent reason saying,(I paraphrase) «you don’t get a refill today. There are no refills today. You sit in my place, you use my bathroom. Leave now. And never come back.» The guy writes there a lot. I work there, too. I’m wondering if he’ll toss me out, too. The guy is quiet, the place isn’t packed. There are plenty of empty tables. I don’t understand. I’m not sure I’ll go back.

I used to love Minnehaha Coffee, but the place has gone downhill. The hours are weird — why are they sometimes closed at 8 am on a weekday? The last time I went there, they were out of decaf and the owner did not offer to brew some for me. It was a weekday morning so it wasn’t like it wasn’t going to get used up. With so many coffee shops in south Minneapolis, I take my business elsewhere now.

Mmmmmmm. Staff was super friendly this time and the soup is delicious. Other patrons are also very friendly!

HELLO freethinkers! Given the location(and the free wi-fi), this gets 5 stars from me. My friend works at the VA medical center and this is the best place nearby to grab a warm somethin somethin to drink while cruising the net. Looks like they have a nice selection of pastries and soups & sandwiches as well. The open window interior has imaginative hues of orange and the classic rock music fits the joint. I’d much rather be here than Caribou or SBUX

A charming little place near Minnehaha Falls. We stopped in after some epic frozen waterfall climbing to warm up. I had the white hot chocolate, which was pretty good until it got room temperature — then the looks of it kind of made me sick. It’s really sunny, and they have plentiful copies of Citypages and the Onion. I’d definitely come in to get some work or reading done if I lived nearby.

I wanted to LOVE this place. It’s located in a retro-50’s Jetson’s-type building that has lovingly retained it’s now classic style. It’s wonderfully airy inside, with floor to ceiling windows that really bring the green spaces inside. They also have a nice covered patio if you prefer to be closer to nature. The doughnuts are from a Baker’s Wife, and they are some of the lightest and freshest cake doughnuts I’ve had in quite some time. They were all out of sprinkled ones that morning, which the counter guy told me were the best, but the plain chocolate covered one sufficed quite nicely. I ordered a latte. The barista started to make it and the espresso was in the cup and then he left, yep just disappeared for a couple minutes, and as I sat and watched my espresso cool, he finally popped back to delivered toasted bagel to someone else. He then poured my coffee in a cup and started to steam milk and then got distracted again by another customer. He left the mil there for a bit, returned to the cup and then looked at the now cooled milk and dumped it into the cup. But there wasn’t enough, so he started steaming some more and got distracted AGAIN. He finally went back to my drink and I was like, «Ughhhhh, are you?» and then I stopped when he looked at me bewildered. He was like, «what?» I said«never mind.» He said, «do you want me to make you another?» and I replied«Yeah.» I mean, if I’m going to fork over nearly 4 bucks, at least make the damn thing fresh. I don’t want it made in parts and over a period of 5 minutes(and I’m being conservative with this time frame). In the end, the latte was good. But I give him 1 star for a) not doing it right the first time and b) making me say something about it before he’s redo it. The place is great, the bakery goods were delishhh, and my coffee ended up being quite nice… so a couple more stars for that. Next time, I hope the same doesn’t happen, otherwise I’ll have to drop it down a notch.

I feel good all day when I have a GOODCOFFEE that isn’t Starbucks. Sometimes that doesn’t happen when I try an independent coffee house. This place was great-sunny, clean, and had great service. The owner opened the door for me when I came in, and after the coffee guy made my drink and bagel, he brought it out to me. Latte was strong, creamy and good-with the cute little leaf pattern I like.

A gem of an independent coffee shop. Most people go on about how Starbuck’s sucks and you should support the local guys, the fact is about 60% of the espresso I get from mom & pop places I cannot drink. Minnehaha Coffee is not that place. Excellent coffee and pastries. Just 1 block off of Hiawatha on the way down town from the airport. I think its the best espresso shot I have had in the Twin Cities. Jim
