I went to Hyland Lake Park Reserve a few weeks ago to ski with a friend. This is a beautiful and well maintained course, but probably not the best choice for beginners(which we are.) I will definitely return as soon as I am a better skier! For now I will stick to Elm Creek which is further away but more appropriate for my skill level. As for the park, I’d love to see it in the summer. Lots of hills and trees and it feels tucked away from cars and the highway.

OK… get off your tush and stop being a couch potato. There are seriously some places you just can’t live without. One being the Hyland Lake Park Reserve. If you haven’t been there put in on your calendar. The ‘wow” factor here is that is doesn’t matter what time of year it is because they have something for«all seasons». I was just at the Richardson Nature Center(part of the Hyland Lake Park Reserve) snowshoeing. This part of the park is tucked away in the woods off Bush Lake Road and you almost forget you’re in the heart of the city. The views are breathtaking. During the winter here are hiking trails galore here and also trails specifically for snow shoeing and cross country skiing if that’s what interests you.(If your excuse is you don’t have equipment… well they offer rentals on that too(in all sizes). There are all kinds of events for kids if you want to make it more of a «family time». If you’re not into winter sports there is a long list of things to do in the summer. Lots of walking and biking trails, fishing and a huge playground area(Chutes and Ladders) for the kids(just to mention of few). Your pooch can come long too. They have 6 miles of trails just for your dog but please bring along your leash. Remember if you just want to explore the outdoors everything is FREE! Oh… and don’t forget your GPS. If you want to deviate off the trails it might come in handy.
