I’ve been to the Emconada Food Truck several times, but I’m sad to say that for most of this summer, they’ve not had the actual cones available, for which they’re named. You can still get their delicious meat(pork or chicken – I prefer the latter) in a burrito, torta, or salad, but there is something about the way those flaky cones melded with the flavor of the meat that made them so irresistible. And I wouldn’t complain, but it’s the name of their business! It’s a little bit like if Falafel King decided to make falafel unavailable at their truck. I guess the issue has something to do with the difficulty in maintaining a deep fryer in the truck itself or something. Anyway, I feel like I can get a burrito or torta anywhere else, but as soon as you bring back the cones, I’ll be there.

This was unexpected. I was in the mood for something taco/latin-ish. In the world of food trucks, I’m growing increasingly tired of everything being pulled pork this or korean taco that. So here I find the Emconada food truck. Hmm. Order chicken or pork(i went with pork because I’m a hypocrite bastard) and it comes in this flaky«cone» that is reminiscent of damn good pot pie crust, with a side of really damn good yellow rice and a little salsa. The pork was tender and seasoned nicely. It was surprisingly good, didn’t leave me feeling terrible and wasn’t covered in grease.

Emconada was the first food truck to burst my cherry food truck experience. I had the chicken emconadas– flavorful moist chicken in essentially a fried savory cone. It came with a side of rice and salsa. The cone tasted like the outside of an empanada, but much crispier and the salsa tasted fresh and flavorful and a tiny spicy. The mildness of the rice actually complimented all of that was going on in my mouth and all of these elements made for a pleasant lunch. My only complaint was the price for the amount of food that just barely satiated my appetite($ 8). Apparently, this may be normal of all food trucks downtown. Due to such normal sized portions, I was able to avoid any food coma in my afternoon at the office and lasted me until my need for a snack around 4pm. Anyway, being a pessimist, I expected my first food truck experience to be not that great, but I was pleasantly surprised. I will be back for emconadas again!

A friend of mine from work and I decided to go hit the food trucks on Marquette on a beautiful Friday afternoon about 11:10. We stopped by the Gastrotruck, but no luck in them having the buffalo chicken sandwich, so we strolled down a few trucks and the Emconada truck caught our eye and they had some free samples, which was a nice touch! You could pick from an emconada, which is spiced pulled meat in what kind of looked like a waffle cone, or you can get a sandwich like I did, or a burrito. My friend got the cone version and my chicken sandwich style was ready in about 3 minutes. Solid service! Nice gut that took my order. A little expensive at $ 8, but it seems like these food trucks are getting a little more pricey lately. The sandwich comes with Ruffle style chips, and they were pretty crispy and seemed fresh from the bag. I hardly ever have«Real» potato chips, so the 7 or 8 of them I got was a nice little treat. The pulled chicken meat is seasoned well and super juicy with slices of onions in it on a fluffy bun. It was super sloppy, but super good as well. They also have beef or pork options, but the chicken was just fine. Another food truck tried, and another food truck that was spot on!
