The food is okay tasting, but when ordered for delivery there was barely any chicken with my chicken tikka order or with my roommate’s chicken tikka masala order. My chicken tikka didn’t really taste like anything though the tikka masala was alright. The rice that came was a ridiculously small amount. When I called to ask if the food was supposed to be this way they just said yup and had nothing to else to say about it, though when I order two chicken dishes I’d expect them to have more than a few bites of meat. Or at least for the restaurant to have some care for customer satisfaction. I actually made this Unilocal account to post this review, and my roommate and I will not be coming back.

Today I went here on a lunch break with a group of people around 11:55 am. You open at 12. We waited outside until 12(although there were clearly people sitting inside doing nothing) and since the doors were locked, and there is no opening time marked on the door, we called to confirm what time you open. No one would open the door when they clearly saw us all freezing outside. It was after 12 and the doors were still locked, we called again before walking away and got no answer while ppl inside sat and started at us on the street. You could’ve at least let us in but also it was 12:05 when I looked at my phone before we walked away. You lost business of 6 people. Won’t be coming back.

There is 1 less star as the quantity of rice(for take out) was very less as compared to other Indian restaurants. However, the taste of food is authentic & close to real Indian food. A definite must try place.

Went here on a mid-week date night and had a lovely time. I loved the lighting and ambiance as soon as I walked in. There was no hostess on duty, which was a little odd, but we were seated fairly promptly by one of the servers. Our server was incredibly charming, but did not inform us up front that there were a couple of menu items 86’d for the evening, which we found out later when we tried to order them, which was a bit of a bummer but understandable. Our cocktails took quite a while to get to the table, but when they finally arrived they were delicious. For and appetizer we had the chat, which was so incredibly tasty that I was very sad when it was gone. We also had the garlic naan which is, unsurprisingly, amazing. We ordered the chicken vindaloo and fish shaki korma and both were delicious! Small disclaimer: the food here is pretty darn hot so if you order spicy — be prepared. I am usually a medium type of girl but decided to be cautious and order the mild — and I was very glad I did. My SO got the medium and it was as spicy as the hot you would find other places. We will definitely be returning and I can’t wait to try more of the dishes at this place!

Great food, we shared the chicken tikka masala. It was very flavorful, nicely cooked. The naan was perfect. The place is on the expensive side if you are just having lunch.

Well, I’ve been here a half dozen times before… Tonight= all kinds of fail. First of all it took 25 minutes to bring out our naan bread. 35 minutes to bring out our entrees which were cold. No silverware. Took them 5 – 8 minutes to bring that out. 25 more minutes to bring out our appetizers, jalapeños that were raw inside and cold. They need to get their act together here. It’s been slow before but never this bad… Now we have Empty plates and no one can bus the table? Someone needs to teach the waitstaff some common sense. Meh. The chettinad is probably supposed to be pungent, but this was meh. Pretty pathetic. They gave us $ 10 for future and didn’t charge anything over the groupon…

Beautiful ambiance!!! Dim, blue lightening. The vegetarian Malsala was SO amazing!!! I would not recommend the vegetarian egg plant dish though. My hubby loved the scallops dish!

Their chicken biryani and butter chicken are worth trying. This is one of the places we visit frequently. Didnt give 5 stars because of their limited buffet options.

The food is as you’d expect; we’ve always been happy with it. Everything comes out quick, nothing seems to be undercooked or have been left sitting for hours. Service can be a bit hit or miss, some folks have little serving experience and/or culturally are confused by drink orders etc. Most recently, we had a good server who knew what she was doing.(Better than Bombay Bistro where they seem always very culturally confused about drink orders.) The environment is a little odd. Most recently you could hear/feel some big vibrating machine in some other room. Not sure if it was kitchen equipment or something related to the building, maybe located elsewhere.

It’s okay. I think the food is basically a white person trying to do Indian food, but not quite succeeding. The location is great and the prices are reasonable, though.

I want to share one of the most delightful experiences that I have ever had in a restaurant. I went there with couple of friends we were greet at the door very politely and we were seated on a booth. We order some drinks, mango mojito, mango tango and lemon drop mango mojito; the drinks were awesome. We took our time to decide for appetizers, we order chicken 65 that was delicious, the waiter listen our order carefully and was reassure that everything was fine when he walk by our booth. For main courses we order lamb Tika Masala, garlic naan and chicken Tika the food was on time and absolutely everything was delicious we all like Indian food for my friends it was a new experience since they have never had Indian food before. I can say that over all the we had a great service and everything was excellent. I highly recommend this place for the service and the food.

First visit to Dancing Ganesha last night to grab a late night bite and some drinks. Arrived at 10pm and asked if the kitchen was open, bartender/waitress said it was. Told us it was happy hour and went behind the bar to a cabinet to get us happy hour menus. We sat at a dining table, and a staff person came by, told us to «move your hands» off of the table, and proceeds to remove the table cloth. ??? The bartender finally returns to take our order.(There are only 3 other people in the bar.) We ask about two items on the food menu and she says«that’s fine but it’s not happy hour. The owner changes it all of the time.»(The menu she gave us clearly states that it’s happy hour on Saturdays from 9−11pm). We then asked about the drinks on the happy hour menu, and she says«those aren’t happy hour either.»(Ok, why did you give us a happy hour menu!!!) We asked to see the full menu instead and she said she would bring it. Twenty minutes later, two of the appetizers we had asked about show up at the table. We said we didn’t order them and the waiter goes to get the waitress. She shows up and says«oh, now you don’t want these?». We say that didn’t order them, we only asked questions about them(seasoning/level of heat) and for a full menu. She walks away with an attitude, returns 10 minutes later at 10:30(now 30 minutes in to our visit), puts a menu on the edge of our table and says«here’s the menu, but our kitchen is closed». Yet, the happy hour menu shoes food until 11pm. wth! Horrible service with an attitude is not a good look for a restaurant! I will not be returning to this place ever! We had other people meeting us, for a total of 6 people and we all instead went elsewhere.

As much as I love indian food, i’d have to say I was a little disappointed with this place. Or maybe it’s just cause I came in during the lunch buffet and asked for the regular menu. I’ve been here once before and had a great experience and food, so i decided to come back. When we got there, we sat ourselves and got our own menus, which I feel like there should be a sign that says«seat yourself». We ordered the mixed appetizer platter, butter chicken, garlic and lamb naan. The mixed appetizer platter was really nothing special. We decided to get it, for a variety but none of it really stuck out to us, the taste was just nothing special. I was really excited for the buttered chicken because my sister always talks about it but the first piece of chicken i bite into had a weird taste to it, when i took it out to look at it, it was completely red, like still raw red. The garlic naan was reaaaaalllly good but our lamb naan was not lamb, i’m pretty sure it was fruits and nuts. There was no lamb though. Which is fine, i’m not going to make a big deal over it, naan is good either way, you just have to decide which ones you want to eat out of all of the naan choices. We got a mango lassi, which is a mango-yogurt drink. I feel like I would have enjoyed this more if it was cold though. :/When it came time for dessert, we just weren’t really up to it after all of that. I really like the way they did the interior of this place. Service-wise, I really felt like our server did not want to be there at all. She was really nice but I got a vibe that she just didn’t want to be there. She didn’t smile at all… I’ve had good experiences here before so i’m not quite sure if maybe I just came on the wrong day or because I came during lunch.

If this review were based solely on the food, I would have given it five stars. However, the atmosphere and service were poor enough to knock it down a couple… My friend and I were seated in the bar area, which has an incredibly harsh, uninviting lighting. I server was kind of awkward and disjointed. And for being one of the only tables in the place, the service was rather slow. I would love to eat from here again, but I would probably do take-out or delivery next time…

Reservation is not necessary unless you have a big party. I’ve been here several times in the last few months, and it is unfair not to write a review on it. We do not have a wide selections of Indian restaurants in the twin cities so it is often overlooked by the public. If you can stand the stringent and strong aroma of Indian curry(which is different than Thai curry) then i highly recommend this restaurant. I have tried a few dishes on the menu and kept on coming back for the butter chicken. If you are trying curry for the first time then butter chicken is the right choice for you. This dish is simply grilled chicken in a tomato base curry, make sure you order a side of naan to go with it. The portions are kind of small but the rice and naan will fill you up. Did i also mentioned that this place is great for vegetarians. At least half of the menu caters to vegetarian/vegan customers. The only thing that keep me from coming back is probably the price because I’m cheap, actually the price is on the steep side; however almost always you can find a dancing ganesha groupon. Here is a photo for those who are curious of my meal at Dancing Ganesha.

Food was delicious. Service was a little lacking. People kept coming in to an empty host desk, and our server, who was still very nice, was difficult to locate at times. We were the only people in the restaurant for a while. Slow. Overall, I might do take-out over dining in.

We went there on a Tuesday, it wasnt too crowded. We waited for 45 mins then had to literally call someone to get the menu and again waited for a while before someone realised they need to take the order. When finally they arrived with the food they had forgotten the appitizers BUMMER Food wasnt that great else it would have justified the loooong wait.

Eh. We went here on a Saturday a little after 6pm. Thrifty Hipster said happy hour was happening in the bar from 6pm-close. We asked the hostess when we arrived and she said no, that it ended at 6pm. Alright so then we ordered some food and drinks. Drinks Marsala tea-not very good Mango tango-disgusting Food Appetizer platter-pretty good, chicken was dry, lamb was good, samosa was ok. Not a super large portion Naan-all delicious Dosas-alright Rice pudding-watery Carrot pudding-too crunchy for me Service Adequate-started off bad and then got slightly better at the end. Nothing annoys me more when this happens because people want you to forget how bad it started off. With other options in Minneapolis I doubt I will be heading back to Dancing Ganesha anytime soon.

The food was very hit or miss. Mostly miss. Big clue was the lack of Indian people dining and the large place was nearly half full. Very overpriced for what you get, portion and quality-wise. The major plusses were that most of the food was spicy, in a hot way, not bland like most food in MN, and they didn’t seem to use a generic curry base for the things we ordered. I tried the Bombay ‘Chat’ because of one the reviews and it was not good. Chaat should be more flavorful, have lots of texture. This only tasted very strongly of onions and was mushy. I love raw onions, but I wanted to taste the spices and the other ingredients. It was also $ 9 for this appetizer. Ridiculous for some potatoes, tomatoes and chickpeas. I asked my husband how they could charge this much and he replied that the owners are probably wondering why their customers continue to be willing to pay that much. We also ordered dosa and a lamb dish. Lamb was okay, but it was $ 17 for a small portion with five little cubes of lamb. The dosa was somehow dry and the potatoes in it were so bland, it didn’t taste like potato. No exaggeration. That was surprising as the sambar and coconut chutney that came with it were actually pretty tasty. They don’t clean the tables well. Our neighbors ate like slobs, rice and sauce all over the table, and the waitress wiped the remainder of their food of the table INTOHERHAND with a dry napkin! Then without cleaning the table with a wet cloth or spray, they put two new place settings on it. Gross. Overall, not worth it to go back. It’s obvious they don’t skimp on the spices, I saw plenty of curry leaves, mustard seed and such, but I feel like they don’t know how to use them properly either. Some things were tasty and others were terrible. All things were overpriced, except maybe the dosa.
