Please have staff wrap purchases properly. Two wine glasses in the same bag with other items thrown in need more than one piece of paper around them. In the 8 blocks home, one of the glasses broke. I turned the car and brought it back. There wasn’t another one to replace it. This was extremely upsetting since I was so excited to find these and now I can’t enjoy them due to improper packaging. I’ve been a long time customer, but am so upset about this that I’m not sure if I’ll return. :(

Decent selection for a neighborhood pet store and reasonably priced. Although the people are friendly, I’ve had issues with employees being knowledgable about product which is frustrating. They have a decent selection of toys and food, but we mainly come here for the large marrow bone selection. I’d recommend over going to large chain stores.

Stopped in to WGPS after reading reviews from fellow Unilocalers Brian M. and Mike P. — glad to have done so. Tucked at the end of a residential stretch on W. North Avenue, WGPS caters to the gardening-DIY enthusiast and pet lovers all over the northwest side of town. We found quite a selection of veggies for our garden, a ridiculous amount of potting soil, mulch, and other assorted ground cover, and an incredibly helpful staff. One of the managers has a degree in horticulture(! — try getting that at Schmoe’s or Home Steep-o) and took the time to talk with us about the size of garden, plant type, shade level, and potential pests before recommending a mulch cover that fit our small space and small budget. We ended up getting a few more unplanned items and left happy. Parking was limited, but plenty of spots on North Ave. will make non-nearby shoppers happy. Thanks WGPS!

I really appreciate having this place in the neighborhood. First off I don’t visit the garden half that often, but they always have a nice variety of hanging plant baskets and gifts for the green thumb. The animal side is where I get the majority of our dog’s food and treats. They carry a wide array of healthy dog treats that don’t contain wheat or grains. They also carry Frohm dog food which is locally made and have a grain/wheat free brand. Frohm is an expensive brand, but your getting what you pay for. Also, WI G & P offers a frequent buyer program in which after 12 bags of purchase you get the 13th free. The staff is always friendly and offers any help when needed.

This is one of those happy-making places for me :). I love just driving by and marking the seasons by whatever they have displayed out front. When I had a dog and availed of their pet supplies I appreciated their friendly and informed staff and creativity of selection in both food and toys. And for their garden stuff, well of course they don’t have the volume of merch like a big box store, but what they do have is GOOD stuff that seems to have been carefully and thoughtfully chosen. The displays they make up are beautiful and inspiring. Don’t forget to check out their gifty stuff in the back of the garden section, or the garden/landscaping stuff behind the pet supply building.

Better prices than the West Allis farmers market for plants and an extremely helpful staff. Not huge, but just big enough. They have extremely competitive prices on quality pet products as well. I don’t have to drive to one of the pet super stores for science diet, they have it there for the same price. They also had a great scratching post for my kitten that was on $ 48. I mean one of those big ones that she can climb and sit on top of! They also have bulk food for both pet birds and wild birds. I got just enough thistle for my feeder, so I don’t have to worry about squirrels in the garage pilfering the stash!

Love this place. In the world of enormous garden sections in places like Lowes, Home Depot, and even Stein, it is nice to have a little garden store where you can still get everything you need just a few feet from your car. No need to pull that wagon all over creation. They have a really great variety of annuals as well as a nice perennial garden section. Dirt, mulch, weed killer, grass seed, bird seed… got it. In the gift shop, they sell indoor plants, pots, seeds and nice gift items. Next door is the pet store with a multitude of choices of dog food, toys, bedding, plus bird feeders and lots of bulk treats. Service is great. Everyone is always willing to help you and will ask you if you have any questions. I think they have a good answer for almost everything. And they’ll hoist the big bags of mulch into your car. Bonus. If you want a parakeet, a goldfish or a guinea pig, they’ve got them. And if you don’t want one, you should at least say hello to them. The pet area is well-kept and never has any odors. They are super neat and clean. Please help support this small, locally-owned, family business. You’ll feel good about it!

This is a small family owned business and the top-notch selection, local convenience and helpful advice more than offset slightly higher prices. You get what you pay for. I’ll pay much more for quality, but here its really not that higher.

Great customer service and they carried exactly what I needed. I went here for the first time today and was greeted by several friendly employees. The majority of the plants and flowers were set up outside in rows and they had a small, but diverse enough selection of items so that I was able to pick out my original intended items: a hot pepper plant, a dill plant, and a mint plant, along with a bag of potting soil. Due to their limited size, if you are in need of a large quantity of one specific item, you may run into trouble finding all that you need. But, if you’re just a casual gardener like myself, you’ll be fine. I had my daughter wandering around with me and after I purchased the soil and plants(which, just for reference, all four of these totaled to about $ 20) and one of the employees(or maybe the owner?) carried the heavy bag of potting soil all the way back to my car. A very thoughtful touch that leaves a good impression with me. I will be back!

Something for everyone, all year long. Even when I go for just garden supplies, my dog can smell WG&P on me and I can’t come home empty handed. Damn canine olfactory nerves! Did you know a dog’s sense of smell are 260 times better then humans? We love that this is a locally owned business who cares about it’s customers. Need help carrying something to your car? They’ll do it. Need to know what fertilizers to use on your Rhododendrons? They’ll tell you. Need firewood by the face cord? Check. It kills me to drive past WG&P to go to Home Depot. If I can get it here, I will. For a store this size, they always have a great selection of what is in season. From exotic birds to mutts like mine, they got your pet covered!

Have shopped here for both garden and pet supplies and have had good experiences with both. The garden area is small, but they carry some specialized products we were looking for(specifically a non toxic, grass weed killer) and a nice selection of plants and herbs. The little shop has nice supplies and unique gifts for the gardener in your life as well. Staff is always nice. They also carry Christmas trees and wreaths in the winter. In the pet area, again not as wide of a selection as a petco or petsmart but natural, quality products. I buy my cat food from them and the clerk helped me decide which one was the best option for her. They also have a frequent buyer program for the pet food where you get a free bag after you buy so many. They also sell small pets like birds, gerbils, hamsters, fish etc. I feel better knowing that I am feeding my cat a natural project without a bunch of byproducts and I’m supporting a local business in my neighborhood.

Just went to Wisconsin Garden and Pet Supply for the first time looking herbs. Most of the places I’ve been to have mostly dead herbs as it’s late in the year. This place had a great selection as well as were incredibly helpful when I had questions about what herbs would do well with little sun. Also they have super cute garden flair! The pet supply was a little pricey but I can’t complain. They had everything I needed for my cat and were more than willing to help me find the few things I needed

Very good small garden center but really great for pet stuff. They stock natural and organic dog food that can be hard to find at the big chains. It comes at a price though(only the best for my baby) but to help you out you get every 10th bag free. The also try to stock treats and rawhide from U S producers, very important in my mind. If you have questions, staff are generally pretty helpful. The garden area is good in season but the plants get a little scraggly after peak planting weekends, so get there early. Bonus — farm fresh corn on the cob in late summer!

URBANGARDEN: Wisconsin Garden & Pet Supply helped me purchase everything I need to start a roof top garden. A helpful associate showed me which varieties of vegetables do well in containers. She also directed me to their website that contains a gardening blog for tips. SEEDLINGS: I wanted the challenge of growing my own plants from seed as buying starter plants seems like cheating. I purchased some Jiffy Peat Pots and a black plastic tray. SEEDSPURCHASED:(in order from longest to shortest germination periods) thyme, carrot, tomato, catnip, bean and bell pepper PASSONTHE: Free burlap bags that are stacked outside the garden center entrance. They smell funky! SHOPLOCAL: Founded in 1953, Wisconsin Garden & Pet Supply is operated by the founder’s children today.
