My review is based on the fact that I was never able to eat here and was not served. We came here a couple weeks ago for a Friday night fish fry and sat at a pub table a few feet from the bar and were ignored for at least 15 minutes straight. We walked up to the bar, which was full, but not one bartender walked over to us. I’m fine if they don’t have waiter service, not all bars do, but pay attention to customers walking in and out of the establishment. We were the only people not sitting at the bar, so not really sure what protocol is either… huge bummer. I really wanted to like this place being new to the area, but unfortunately I probably won’t return.

Love this place, good local bar with great people. Best old fashion, great tacos, good wings(if you can handle the heat). If you live in tosa and have not been to Walters you need to stop in.

I would say this is much more approachable than your average Tosa bar. Great place to hang out with friends and watch a game. This isn’t the place to get dolled up for. Prices are fair. Beer and liquor list are pretty limited but you should find something you like. Food is just ok. But at least they have a menu. Bartenders seem rather gruff but I guess that’s part of the charm. They attract a very eclectic crowd so that says a lot. If you’re lucky you may find a parking spot in their lot to the north of the bar.

It sucks! The service was horrible! The fish fry was forgettable and the portions were small. Appetizers came with the meal and were cold. Don’t bother.

Went here with a buddy and he said it was a classic dive bar, but I thought it was a little nicer than a dive bar. It was an interesting group of people, they were either in their late twenty/early thirties or really old guys. One old guy was obsessed with my hat which was kind of creepy. The other two guys were really nice and fun to talk too. I did love that I could get $ 3.00 taps of Lakefront Brewery. I’d like to go here again and try out the food.

If I lived in Tosa, I’d be here much more often. Fantastic set up for Packer games – $ 5 Miller pitchers! Food is decent bar food. I love their cheeseburgers, wedge fries, and jalapeño poppers. The chicken wings are slightly lackluster, and could use some spice/heat. My order was taken quickly and I received my order quickly. The service was friendly and attentive. They have carpet? Carpeting in bars is messy. Otherwise, it’s a cute little sports bar.

Walter’s is a good back up to Belair or Camp bar. This place is a comfy place to go with minimal updates mainly the TV’s I made a suggestion a while ago and it was good to see that they adjusted the lamps to allow unobstructed views from across the bar. This place is a little different depending on the time or day you go. Bartenders are quick. Customers are friendly as usual for a local tosa bar. They have a small patio with tables and seating out back for smokers. Food 4 Amb 3 Service 4 Location 4 Value 4 73⁄2015

To be fair, I’m the only one of my friends that like this bar. They all enjoy the fancy bars that charge them 6 bucks for their angry orchards. I’m more of the normal sports bar type joints. That’s exactly what this bar is. Nothing special or fancy but it’s perfect. Drinks are cheap and the service rocks. The bartenders are pretty funny and always have good stories. There’s a neat looking shuffle board that I’ve never played but I hear is fun. Sometimes it smells like a wet dog, but I think that adds charm. Some of the bartenders are pretty cute, so that’s a plus.

My wife and I have been to Walter’s quite a few times. We’ve taken numerous friends there who are visiting from out of town. We have never heard anyone complain about this place. It’s a great place to go with a large group, small group, or even by yourself. The bartenders are friendly and no one there(patrons or staff) is pretentious. The prices are fantastic, there’s a good selection of liquors/beers, and the cheese curds are great(so are the fries). If you’re looking for a relaxed bar to have a few cold ones, Walter’s is definitely the place you should go.

Walter’s is a decent place to start or end the night. We have been in here many times. However, tonight was more disappointing than other nights. We were out and called to see when the kitchen was closing. We were told midnight, so we decided to end the night there. We arrived at 11:35 only to find the bartenders had decided to stop serving food because of the«crowd.» We told them we had called to check but they didn’t seem to care. I’m sure we will be back, but this was a big disappointment tonight.

Normally wouldn’t ever think to come here, despite in being a few blocks away from my old house. This place was always the signature dive bar of Tosa. They used to have a pool table, which they had to take out due to an unruly crowd. On the choice of a teammate I came here after a rec game. The place was more crowded than I expected, and there were more younger people that I expected. It was as divey as expected. It had all the cool aspects of a dive bar: Cheap Drinks(3.50 Louise Demise, $ 5PITCHERS of Miller Lite) friendly staff, neighborhood feel. It’d didnt have, however, the bad aspects of a dive bar(sketchy crowd, loud music, weird vibe). After all those positives, I could tell my experience at Walter’s was better than I expected. Since it was wing night we decided to give them a try. And my god it was dynamite. They cook their wings in the same fashion as Points East(which a lot of people consider the best in the city). Deep fried, then put in a bucket of buffalo sauce, then grilled to perfection. They were delicious, and I could sense that some people in the community were started to realize that — as how many orders were coming in. Who would’ve thought that the dive bar that survived a terrible fire, would have incredible wings? Not me, that’s for sure.

Four stars, because now I know my cross-generational BFF Jose hangs out here. Look for the guy with the crazy mustache; you’ll know it’s him because he has this super raspy voice. Tell him Rachel F says hi, it’ll creep him out slightly, but mostly it’ll just be funny.

I went here with friends after dinner. I had never been here, but it was pretty low key and laid back. To be honest, if you’ve ever seen the TV show«Roseanne,» I felt like I was at The Lobo. It wasn’t bad, just different. The wood paneling was a nice touch. The location was great, near restaurants on North Ave and within walking distance. It also seems like a biker hang out. So, if you like to ride, check it out. I just had water, but as I was people watching it seemed like people were having a good time.

Alright so please don’t look at the 4 star rating and assume you should rush to Walter’s as it may be the best bar in Tosa. In fact, this bar only is getting 4 stars because of the amazing people watching and the fact that it may be the most entertaining bar in Wauwatosa. I can count the times I’ve been to Walter’s on one hand. Really most times I’ve ended up there it was after a LONG night of drinking. Seems logical to end your night at a bar 2 blocks away from your house, right? Every time I walk in Walter’s, it’s like a totally new bar. One time, I thought it was the most magical bar ever, serving up lovely fried chicken at no cost all while providing me with upstanding bar patrons to chat with. 4 months later, I walk in semi sober only to realize I had on mega beer goggles and this bar was in fact a dump where most bar patrons are passed out on the bar by midnight. Lesson learned– Walter’s should be your last stop of the night. You’ll meet amazing people, hear their amazing life stories, watch them do 10 too many shots, then watch them run to the bathroom to yarf it all up and then watch them walk back from the bathroom, wipe the barf off their mouth and make out with their boyfriends roommate(true story) Long story short– if you live in Tosa and are looking for a great way to end your night, hit up Walter’s for sure! If you’re thinking of starting your night off there, well you’ve been warned. P.S– The bar staff is really awesome considering the people they have to deal with so tip them well as they deserve it!

Been coming here for years. Walters is the consummate«neighborhood bar.» A place«everybody knows your name» and/or a place that strangers can feel welcomed at. For beer drinkers, they’ve got all kinds of bottled beer and numerous tappers. For cocktail drinkers, they pour good drinks at reasonable prices. They serve a tasty array of finger food/appetizers, have great burgers, numerous sandwiches and have«special» food nights: Wednesday is chicken wing nite. These chicken wings are not the run of the mill wings you get at most bars. These are flash fried and then finished on the grill after being tossed in bar manager Jimmy’s secret recipe sauce. Just outstanding. Thursday nite is Taco nite(chicken or beef), Friday is fish fry and Saturday nite is rib nite. Lots of bar seating as well as quite a few table tops. There’s a few video machines for the wagerers amongst us and a pool table, too. Anywhere you sit, you’ll be able to watch whatever sports are being televised at the moment. For smokers, there’s a special, fenced-in outdoor patio that you can take your drinks out to. Wifi too.

Went here with some fellow Unilocalers. Is it a towny type of dive? Yep? Any problems with that? Nope. There are tables for drinks and chairs for sittin’. Prices seemed resonable, and the service came with a smile. Didn’t feel unwelcome or out of place. Probably wouldn’t make a trip out of my way, but wouldn’t avoid if I was walking on by. Check it out, it might be your deal.

It’s a dive. In Tosa. It was clear pretty much everyone in there knew each other and that they all spend their nights there together. Carpet was dirty and well-worn and the whole place looked a lot like my grandma’s basement circa 1986 — all wood paneling and hanging stained glass lamps — though as Rachel mentions, those were actually pretty cool and updated. Worst part for me was the super-strong odor of the deep-fryer that spurred to life every 30 minutes or so when someone new ordered food. The smell was STRONG, though thankfully didn’t linger. Bonus points for having Strongbox, which I didn’t expect.

Never the destination, but always part of the journey. If Wauwatosa has any«dive bars», this might qualify as one of them. Bye no means is this meant as an insult. Walter’s is a good bar because it does not try to be something that it isn’t. Want a $ 15 martini or bacon-wrapped scallops from the kitchen? Well, you won’t find them here. Want a double Jack & Coke, cheeseburger and fries for about $ 10? You just found it. Want super-swanky modern décor? Nope. Want 1970’s dark wood paneled rec-room fab? Check. Walter’s has everything you want in a neighborhood bar: Pool table, dart boards, jukebox, and TVs always playing your favorite local sports teams. More importantly, they have good bar food,(when I say bar food, I mean that they actually make the food right behind the bar), cheap beer, generous mixed drinks, and super friendly bartenders and patrons. Best of all, it’s close to my house so I can either stumble home on foot, or set the Jeep to autopilot. I’m only giving three stars because I haven’t ordered food here much and I want to leave room for improvement. Will update once I do.

I’m not really a dive bar kind of girl but Walters in Tosa on 75th and North is our standard for end of night drinks. They have it all — wood paneled walls, greasy bar food, cheap beer, darts, pool, friendly patrons/bartenders and that dive bar smell(spilled beer, urinal cake + grease). Shockingly, the ladies room is redone and quite nice. You’ll have a better time at Walters if you’re ending the night up here and have had a few already. For example, one St Pat’s we ended up here after a LONG night at Derry’s. My sis + I went to the ladies and returned to a free plate of fried chicken. It was from their St Pat’s buffet but my sister was absolutely CONVINCED it was magic. Now, Walter’s is known to her as the«magical fried chicken bar». I’m pretty sure she threw up that chicken later and it probably wasn’t so magical, but that’s a story for another time…
