I Give this restaurant the ***** that it deserves! Great service and quality of food. Menudo was fantastic and had lots of meat. I like the fact that when they bring you the chips and salsa they also bring you a small bowl of jalapeños mixed with diced carrots and onions. I have been here Twice and every visit has been a great one. Keep it up! Provecho!

This will be a short review. Get the Goat Birria, you won’t be disappointed. Served in a large bowl with a side of tortillas and a small plate of onions, cilantro, and lime, it was exactly what I was looking for a cold and blustery Saturday. The breadth of flavor in the broth was incredible. I’ve been to other places where the goat can taste rather«goaty». Not here, the goat was extremely tender and mild. Staff is efficient and friendly. Pro-Tip: After your meal, just walk up to the cash register and give them your table number for the bill. Pro-Tip 2: No liquor license so plan accordingly.

Just was driving by and decided to stop for breakfast(desayuno). Definitely a hit. Larger on the inside than most Mexican places. Booths with benches you can fit 3 across. Plenty of chips and salsa options. My breakfast was hot, fresh, and fast. I liked the home made flour tortillas. Nice size gated parking lot. I know it’s tough to roam from a favorite Mexican place but definitely worth a chance. I have to update as I went again tonight. I definitely did not get a warm and fuzzy feeling. Waiter took my order, brought my food, didn’t even stop back to ask me how it was or give me my check. Food was ok but I had asked for a side of jalapeños that he didn’t bring. Lastly when I went to the cashier to get my check she was talking on the phone and continued to while she stumbled with the cash register. Oh, and no some even said thank you. Not sure if I will be back.

Tacos were awesome. We had: Carnitas, Asada, Chorizo and Chicken. Also tried a Chicken Enchilada and the Posole. Hands down the way to go here are the tacos. The Carnitas, in particular, were amazing. The enchilada was good but my lunch mate and I were divided. It was slightly different than what you might expect but fresh. I liked it; he did not. Posole is something we both love and this one was just okay. All this being said, we’d still be back for guac, chips and tacos! Especially the Carnita’s. We were pleasantly surprised to see how constantly busy they are. Clearly a family and neighborhood favorite. Side note: No alcohol is served here and we didn’t miss it

Very bad service ! Servers have no motivation at all! I was there about 7:40 am to have breakfast. Severs where mapping the Floors, sweeping, dusting and cleaning windows! To me it’s very disrespectful for someone to be sweeping the floor while I’m eating! But I don’t blame the employees at all! However I do blame management!

So good! Walked over from the Potawatomi casino and it was so worth the walk!!! The woman that greeted us was so friendly, and the homemade salsa and chips did not disappoint. The definition of genuine, not overwhelmingly greasy, Mexican food. I can’t say enough good things about this place

I’m so glad a friend introduced this place to us for dinner because not only is it cheap, the food is great too. Our check came up to only around $ 85 for 7 people(and we were stuffed by the end of the meal). I got the pastor and chorizo tacos and although the chorizo wasn’t the best I’ve tasted, the pastor was amazing. They give onions and cilantro on the side, so you can add as much of those as you like. I also got to try the chicken soup set, which comes with soup, rice and 4 – 5 tortilla pieces. This was definitely enough for 2 people so if you’re in for large portions, you’ll love this place. Our server was very friendly and nice as well. She didn’t hesitate ones second to replace one of our orders after realizing that she got it wrong(: I was pretty surprised that business was pretty slow for such great food quality. Definitely another undiscovered gem in Milwaukee.

The tacos are as close as it gets here to being in Mexico. Definitely don’t need to settle for the chicken-beef-steak solution here. You get more choices. Salsas… maybe a little more work can be done on these. And, don’t plan on having a beer. And, the servers were extremely friendly. Start thinking Mexican restaurant, ask for what you want and be nice — including the check.

What a great Mexican food experience. The inside is cozy and clean and the menu is solid with a really fair prices. The chips and salsa are delivered quickly alongside squirty bottles of red and green sauce. The guacamole rocks and the portion is truly stunning(about 3 – 4 avocados worth). Tacos were good and had a healthy portion of meat– pastor and chorizo were our favorites. Can’t wait to come back and try goat.

I’ve never been to a legit mexican place until now. This place is the bomb. The portions here are huge! I can’t quite describe the taste, but it’s really good. I’ve never had mexican food like this before. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the mood for some legit quesadillas.

I was up for some Mexican for lunch so I stopped by. The place has a parking lot and street parking in the front which I parked. I almost walked out because the staff kept looking at me and walking past, doing nothing but standing and looking at me while not seating me which went on for several minutes and only when the next people came in they finally took me over to a dirty table with dirty dishes and asked me if this was ok. I had to wait for them to clean it up before I could sit down. The interior was a Mexican theme with brick work and a ceiling mural. Flat screens on the walls and cheap tables and chairs. Some wood on the walls and tile floors to complete the décor. The place was balls to the wall busy so I was hoping it would be good. The chips, salsa, menu and water came right away. The menu was all the standard Mexican offerings. The chips and salsa were pretty good on this day. The chips were fresh and crispy. I tried the two bottle sauces on the table on the chips and I did not care at all for the table sauces. I tried the chunky salas and I really liked it and that would be used on my food instead of the table sauces. The salsa was on the hot side and made my head sweat but that didn’t keep me from eating it. I ordered the three taco dinner with beans and rice. My meat choices were pastor pork, steak and pork carnitas. The carnitas taco was by far the best because it was juicy/moist with the right amount of fat for flavor and not fatty at all. The pastor taco was my second with that tasty pork. My least favorite was the steak because it didn’t have much flavor and was boring. The tacos come with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cilantro and cheese. The beans were average and the cheese really helped. The rice was pretty boring and not worth eating unless you pour the hot salsa all over it. The roasted pepper was just hot enough to please. The plastic table ware was unimpressive. I asked for a box for the left overs that was about half the plate and I boxed and bagged my food and I was asked if I needed any sauce to take with me. I realized I need small bills so I could leave a tip so I went to pay my bill and went back to my table to get my left overs and leave my tip and everything was gone and the table was cleared that fast. I asked my waitresses where is my left overs and she and two other servers keep looking at each other with stupid looks on there faces while I keep asking the question. Eventually I left in frustration and was let down that I couldn’t have the dinner left overs. It’s like going to Walmart and while I’m paying for my items an employee takes my grocerys away while I pay my bill and I never see them again and they can’t produce what I just paid for but I still have to pay for it. This is a first for me and I can’t believe this really happened because this never ever happens and I thought I was in the twilight zone. Over all the food was good and if the seating issue with throwing out my boxed and bagged left overs with lightning speed and not replacing my food that I paid for cost stars and I would not ever go back again. There was so much potential here because the food was fast and hot with better than average taste but poorly executed by the staff. Yah two thumbs down today. I generally will let a lot slide based on the current situation but this experience was unbelievable And truly worthy of a bad review. I will post pictures. I got bit by knowing great places but always wanting to try new places to support the local businesses. Part 2. After thinking about my horrible experience on my first visit while the food was very good I have changed my mind and I will give them another chance in the future but I’m not altering my original review. I really enjoyed my meal and the carnitas taco was outstanding so after some time thinking about the whole situation and in fairness it just might have been a bad day.

Visiting family in Milwaukee we stumbled on this place near the 3rd ward. Very good authentic mexican food! i am from New Mexico so i have my expectations. I can usually tell by the salsa if its good. Theirs hit the mark! This is very good mexican food. We had a party of 15 with a few kids under 10. The service was great and friendly. Everyone loved their food.

Taqueria El Cabrito is a refreshing change from the 5th St. establishments. They don’t serve alcohol, there’s no giant pepper or novelty sombreros and no giant screeching parties of bachelorettes. The inside is cheerful, simple(think fast-food type booths) and bustling. It’s a family place with lots of kids running around and we were the only two gringos in there during a busy Sunday lunch. We had no language barrier issues, but a little Spanish might help. Meals start with homemade chips, 3 salsas and a bowl of pickled veggies. The bowl salsa is mild(the Mister liked it) and there are two squeeze bottles of spicier stuff — I loved the tomatillo based one. I also really liked the veggies, especially the carrots and cauliflower which were still a little crisp. The menu is fairly simple — tacos, tortas, caldos, a few seafood dishes, etc. They specialize in BBQ goat, but I went with chicken tacos. A plate of 3 with rice and beans is less than $ 8. The tacos are 5 stars all the way — generously filled, well seasoned and absolutely delicious. Rice and beans — 2 stars, totally«meh». Next time, I’m just doing tacos. The Mister had a burrito suizo which he was quite happy with. A few other people have noted that the portions here are large, so come hungry. I’m sorry it took me so long to try this delightful family-run place — but I’ll be back soon for sure.

My favorite tacos in Milwaukee. I’ve had carne asada, chorizo, barbacoa, and the birria. All great. Make sure you get corn tortillas and cilantro and onions for that authentic flavor. They pile on the meat. The chips, salsa, and pickled veggies you get while waiting are also among the best in the city, but be careful to save room for the main entrees. Note that they don’t have alcohol, so plan accordingly. However, the quality of the food more than makes up for the lack of booze.

If you walked out of my house blindfolded, but with a hungry sense of smell, within a couple of blocks in any direction you would end up in a good family friendly authentic Mexican restaurant. This one may have the best goat around, they also have very good tortas. It’s usually a pretty comfortable and peaceful place to have lunch or dinner, unless there’s a Mexican League soccer game going on(this is mostly a Chivas place). They have two sizes of quesadillas, the grande size is just kind of ridiculous(I had to try though), it’s so big there isn’t room for beans and rice, so stick to the smaller more reasonable size. Order the tacos Mexican style(onion, cilantro) rather than Gringo style, if you’ve never had tacos this way before you may be in for a pleasant surprise. The soups are really good, if you’re not really sure what menudo is, try it first and put off asking what’s in it until after digestion.

Amazing food and very authentic minus some small tedious things like AMERICAN cheese on one or two dishes BUTTTTTT the quality of the food is amazing! Now, don’t be confused by the different reviews on here, because(in my hank hill voice) i’ll tell you hwat this is one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been to in the area! I feel bad for those who gave this place low ratings for any and all issues they’ve had but this place is phenomenal when it comes to its dishes! And for my gringo friends, GOOUTOFYOURCOMFORTZONE and order something you’ve never had before! You will NOT be disappointed! The salsas from what I recall are at a moderate level of ‘spicyness’ but more inclined towards flavor from what i’ve noticed. The atmosphere is very traditional, with the typical ‘virgen de gualape’ and Jesus portraits hanging by the entrance and the opening to the kitchen is very unique. Mind you, the location is kind of ghetto(LOL) but it’s worth it! Don’t be afraid, but if you are, lock your cars(again, LOL!) and enjoy your meals!

The food is very authentic and well priced. The is a variety to choose from and won’t be disappointed. I had their tacos, Gordita, and grilled onions. Reminded me so much of Mexico. Place is very clean with a couple of parking lots to choose from. Very quick service. Great if you are looking for an authentic experience and not the high prices. Won’t regret.

This is going to be a tough one to review because I feel like I was disappointed in my experience but take full responsibility for it. El Cabrito has great ratings, and when on the hunt for the next great chip and salsa stop this one pulled high. I didn’t do nearly enough research on El Cabrito so when I walked in looking for a cocktail, only to be told they didn’t serve alcohol, the feelings of shame were palatable and shared amongst the waitstaff and I. Clearly she was put in a precarious position having to shoot things down so early in the experience, but again, this was my mistake. The chips and salsa we’re not great. The chips weren’t exactly stale but they were dry and room temperature. The salsa wasn’t very memorable and the bonus table salsa that came in squirt tubes also lacked punch. There was a green and a brown and they both tasted like variations on sweet tomato water. The«Fun Bowl»(which is not what they call it) was unique and charming but not delicious. Mine featured peppers and carrots, and didn’t have any cauliflower. Everything tasted like pickled everything else which was odd. Aside from saying«I had it» I wouldn’t really recommend it. I ordered the beef and chorizo tacos which tasted pretty similar. Chorizo being the superior meat was slightly better. The rice was ok — I think it had small chunks of potatoes in it. The beans were kind of bland. Other things, the restaurant was kind of drafty, the waitress started off really strong, she was funny and understanding(said very little) but when it came time to leave she was sitting at a table eating. It was a little awkward having to go up to the register and ask to pay so I could leave. Overall, I believe that El Cabrito is supposed to be authentic and you probably should order goat and love corn tortillas and water. I wasn’t really looking for that experience so when it didn’t happen who’s fault was it? We’ll share the blame. 3 stars. Go there but know what you’re getting in to.

I’ve stopped at Taqueria El Cabrito a few times now for carryout. I’ve tried the steak tostadas but was not a big fan of the meat. What really shines on the menu to me is the Steak Milanesa Torta. The steak is lightly breaded and served on a roll with a generous helping of lettuce and avacado. Yum! Service is great, but confirm what you’re ordering. On one trip I got a steak torta, not the milanesa. The chips are just OK, I prefer a little saltier. They also provide a nice helping of picked veggies which are a cool treat! I’ll be back and plan on trying the goat.

I love this place. This is a hole-in-the-wall, authentic Mexican joint. You can feel the awesome authenticity when you walk in. Our server was extremely friendly and was efficient in refilling our drinks and refilling with their homemade chips. The salsa was not overwhelmingly powered by cilantro — a hint of spice, but great. The pickled slices of carrots, cauliflowers and jalapeño slices were incredibly awesome — these items were hard to resist to munch on while waiting for the food. I had a large horchata — let me tell you, that beverage was the best I’ve had, hands-down. It was not milky, but a thinner consistency, great taste, a hint of cinnamon, and quite refreshing. I had the Carnitas Dinner which came with fried shredded pork(unbelievably delicious — great flavor(no need for hot sauce or dousing with guac or anything — a mixture of juicy and crispy at the same time), a side of beans(nothing beats Red Iguana in SLC), a side of rice(mediocre), and some lettuce, tomato, and an avocado. The chicharron gordita was a waste — the ground beef taco was ‘okay’ but overwhelmingly cilantro-like; my husband had the Carne Asada, and that was pretty high up there in taste as well. Forget about the appetizers, the tacos, the tostadas, etc. etc. Go here for the awesome Carnitas platter and an horchata to wash it down. The pickled vegetables also leave you begging for more as well as their homemade chips and salsa. You can watch Telemundo(like Cops) and soak in the great vibe. Plenty of parking on the street as well as their ‘semi-gated’ lot. +horchata! +Carnitas Dinner — pork!!!
