Good family restaurant on the South side. Have been here many time with family. Good specials on the menu many of which remind me of things my mom would cook. Two in particular are the scalloped potatoes and ham as well as the stuffed green peppers… both I give a thumbs up. And for you liver and onion fans(sorry I’m not a fan), my pops says it’s delicious… lol. Can’t go wrong with their breakfasts… my teenagers love to order breakfast for dinner there.

I was going to a different place for breakfast but with the snow and un plowed roads I stopped here, my place was still over 4 miles away and would be another day. With the bad weather it was pretty empty at 7:05 am. My server sat me down right away with the water and menu soon after. My server was very nice and took good care of me. The menu was your standard greek restaurant breakfast. I ordered the greek eggs with toast. The interior was nothing fancy with light wood and walls. The booths were lined with a Route 66 theme which was weird because nothing else had this theme. See the pictures. My food came right away, see my pictures. It looked good but I noticed the meat portion was the smallest of any greek place I have been to. The Greek eggs were two sunny side eggs, hash browns, gyro meat and toast. The gyro meat was kind of dry and average. The eggs were perfect. The hash browns were average. Thank you for greek toast and not the generic three choices. Overall this was your standard Greek breakfast place and most people will find something to there liking. The whole meal was $ 8.95 with tax and in line with most Greek places. While I was not blown away it was a solid breakfast place. I later found out that the original place I wanted to go to had closed for good and the drive through snow storm that I cut short was worked out well.

It’s your pretty basic Greek diner. If you’ve been to one before, you’ve been here. It’s about comparable in my opinion to Ma Fischer’s on the East Side(only without all the college kids) or the Midwest Diner in Bayview. I’ve been afraid to review this place for awhile, because the only time I went I was with one of my fiancée’s family’s friends, a woman who knows how to do nothing better than drive people right up the wall. I was concerned I might have been unduly poisoned against the place, since I was gritting my teeth all day and night while dealing with this woman. I’ve been able to look at this place with an open mind, though, and I think that it’s a solid place, but not outstanding. The food is the same you’ve had at any diner. It likely won’t blow you away, but it’s all edible food. There’s a large menu to choose from, so you’ll be able to find something interesting at the very least. The server, when I was there, was very friendly – even despite the psychic vampire(seriously, it’s the best possible term for this woman, Google the term if you don’t know what I mean) I was there with’s incessant, inane questions and complaints that the menu had changed since the last time she was there…15 years ago. Knowing they can handle that, I feel inclined to give them 5⁄5 stars just for the Herculean effort that I know the server must have put forth to not slap a guest silly. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be fair to the other, better restaurants I would be comparing them to around Milwaukee. I can’t say that I would actively dissuade someone from coming here, but it definitely wouldn’t be one of my first choices.

A great old school diner on the south side of town, Spring Gardens Café has a welcoming atmosphere to it with great service. I’m not a big breakfast eater, but I was very pleased with my deli omelette that included corned beef and ham. We had a very large group and the staff took care of us nicely. If I lived closer, I would probably stop by here more often.

My office decides to send me to a seminar/conference in Milwaukee. I was not accompanied. I took a cab to JFK all alone and a cab from MKE airport to my hotel, alone. All because the hotel did not offer shuttle service from the airport even though it is only 5 minutes away(Edit: turns out they DO offer shuttle service, you just have to call them when you get out of the plane. It’s a domestic flight, it only takes 5 minutes to get from the plane to the pick-up area). That’s what you get when you stay at America’s Value INN, which I’ve never even heard of. I did know that my company’s fiscal year was bad but not THIS bad. The hotel is OK at best. It’s just that they don’t take care of it that well(they can’t keep their own clothes clean so why expect much of them). So here I am sitting in my room at the end of my first of 3 days, pondering about what I am to do next. The only options that come to mind: beer, food, TV. I wouldn’t mind some good olé«televisione», but not in this stale room. And food is a great idea, but the catalog in the room is not giving me any good vibes. Beer is always a good idea in a hotel but, to my dismay, the vending machine does not contain beer! Get your act together Wisconsin! So, I find the courage to go to the restaurant attached to the hotel, which I saw had a television and a bar. At best I expected a mediocre experience, due to the attachment to that hotel. I sit at the bar. Server approaches me. I’m ready to say«Hi.»(followed by) «Miller Lite, please. Draft.» She says«hello». I say«hi». And instead of saying the ever-expected«What can I get you?» utters the words: «How are you today?» And we start having a minute long conversation about how my day was, or what brings me in town. Now, let me tell you something. I live in New York City. This never happens at a Diner like Spring Gardens. You’re nobody to them. For all they know you just walked in there by accident. But not in Milwaukee and definitely not at Spring Garden Diner. We just start shooting the talk and we get to know each other. I even felt that we had become friends by the time the meal arrived. I didn’t even watch that much TV. I talked to the busman too. He worked very efficiently and seemed joyful. All these things just kept making me more curious about what was going on. After enjoying a great, delicious and juicy burger, I paid my bill and up to my room again. Also, did I mention how strange it seems to me that you get fries with your burger automatically AND a cup of soup? All these diner owners in NYC better start coming out to Milwaukee for training. I just realized that this is turning into a very long passage. I went to Spring Garden 7 times in 3 days. The bottom line consists of the following: — Try the Pizza! I’m from NY and this could easily compete as one of the best I’ve ever had! — Delicious food. Especially breakfast. — The menus don’t lie. The food comes out looking just like it did in the picture. — The staff is super friendly and by the end of my staySo are the owners who I met on my last night. Just to expand on this: This owner dude, Tasho, came and talked to me, told me a little bit about him after he heard my story and then at the end he even gave a muffin. In his own words«something for the road». Now let me tell you another thing. In New York, you have to be going to a place for MONTHS or even YEARS before the owner of a restaurant gives you such a treatment. And the reason they do that is not to «pay you back» for all your visits but to ensure you feel obligated to come back. Tasho knew that I would be leaving the next day for NYC and still gave it to me. Something that tells me a lot about his real character. His wife is a lovely lady too, very courteous and helpful. The only reason I’m not giving Spring Gardens a 5 star is because I very rarely do and, also, I don’t know how to compare it according to Milwaukee standards. But this is for sure: I highly doubt it can get any better as an all around experience than this place. Stoves

This place is a favorite of my family. Everything we have ever eaten here has been fantastic and the portions are generous. The waitstaff is great and the food is served quick and cooked to perfection. The staff and owners know us by name and are always bending over backward to make us happy.

I stayed next door at America’s Best Value so this place was super convenient for breakfast. This place has a lot of options and some more unique choices! I got the Greek eggs, which included Gyro meat, tomato, onion, eggs, tzayziki sauce, hash browns. I started off with coffee which was just okay but they did keep topping it off which was nice. The gyro meat was pretty good for being an American diner type of place. The hash browns were crispy, not too greasy. Overall it was pretty good. I give this place 3.5 stars for the food, and an extra half star for the variety.

Stopped in here a few nights ago before a movie. It’s just your typical diner type place. Cheap and fast! I had a Gyro Sandwich that came with a cup of Chicken Dumpling Soup and Hash Browns. Everything was good and it was so big I took about half of it home for lunch the next day.
