Off the charts fun. The food was amazing and it was great to try samples from restaurants we have et to visit. We left with several priceless action items. Can’t wait for next year.

SoundBites is a pretty rad event. This annual event is a fundraiser for 88.9 Radio Milwaukee at the oh-so-swank Iron Horse Hotel, and this year, Unilocal MKE sponsored the event/donated all the headphones for attendees. Rad, right? Sure, the ticket price is a little steep, maybe, but it’s a fundraiser which means that first and foremost the idea is to raise funds. The concept: food + music pairs, and well. The attendee enjoys one, carefully selected song based on a restaurant’s featured dish and listens/eats/enjoys all at once. The tuneage and vittles are designed to be complimentary… that’s the hook! Each restaurant/chef table is paired with an 88.9DJ who(wo)mans their listening station and boom: Esoteric French pop pairs with Lake Park Bistro, Prince’s «Breakfast Can Wait» pairs will Goodkind’s delightful pancake dish… you get the idea. A few complimentary booze/wine tastings dot the landscape, there are cash bars as well. This year, while I loved almost everything I tried, I believe the universal«winningest» dish amongst the Unilocal attendee consensus was Balzac’s falafel taco, which is sadly not on their regular menu.(If I start a petition and deliver it to Balzac, would you guys sign it? I mean, I’d be there eating that thing at least once per week and you all probably would be too…) Yay local music, yay Iron Horse, yay 88.9 and yay Milwaukee!

Gorgeous setting, incredible tunes(that DJ was killing it), amazing food(the falafel taco from Balzac changed my life)…for a great cause. Wonderful variety of food and drinks at this unique event — and each food was paired with a song selection. As cool as it sounds. Support your local radio station!
