Having been to Moct only a few times and each time, having a mediocre experience I feel that it is safe to say«meh.» They have various themed evenings with visiting or local DJs, fashion shows or entertainment from across the country. One would think that that would be enough to garner a huge following. In my opinion, not enough is done to make these events something to really look forward to. The décor is bland, boring and dated. In the 80’s or 90’s, it would’ve probably been considered progressive. The art displays are boring and uninspired choices. The patrons range from the pretentious to the everyday college kid, from the hipster to the curious. Drinks are decent, bar staff is okay. I’m not sure if Moct is officially categorized as a dance club, but I have never seen anyone dance there. The location has such potential, so it is a shame that it does not make full use of it.

Great for Wednesday Night salsa! Also, this is the only establishment I have experienced that serves 40’s in a paper bag. I had to buy a 40 sheerly for the novelty and ended up laughing at how ridiculous I looked the entire night.

With a heavy heart, I feel obligated to update my review. I’ve been a patron of MOCT since the early days and fear that their best days are behind them. They have so much potential, but seem to be on a slippery downward slope. The bartenders are great, and so are the bouncers. Specifically Zoran(bartender) and Scott(bouncer) are just great people and have been there for a long time. The décor and venue in general is very unique. The problem is that they aren’t adapting with the times, and I feel like management isn’t giving it their all in generating awareness for their events and their establishment in general. Tonight I went there to attend a benefit a local musician with hefty medical bills to pay. When I got there, there was hardly anyone there, and Scott’s description of the crowd earlier was much less that I would have expected. I went to talk to one of the owners about setting up some events of my own, and he was so drunk that it was impossible. Owners are the face of the businesses they own, that doesn’t mean that bar owners should be drunk at their bar. I feel like Moct is one of the last places that the underground house scene can be revitalized, or that the drum and bass scene can become a real scene. The opportunity is there, but it will take work from both the stakeholders, and local DJs.

I have to go into this review saying upfront that I’ve heard the full gamut of comments regarding MOCT before I ever stepped in the door. I’ve heard that it’s an awesome night club. I’ve also heard that it’s a trashy bar for wanna be Euro-trash. My expectations of MOCT were pretty much in the garbage and I had no intention on spending money there. However, a close friend of mine recently had some works shown at MOCT so I went for the gallery opening with much apprehension for what the bar would be like. I was surprised. It was certainly not as bad as I was expecting. On the contrary, it was really relaxed and had a great atmosphere. The bartenders were very helpful and our cocktails were heavy handed and tasty. The art installations were similarly awesome and provided a great contrast to the stark look of the club. The crowd may not have been the usual crowd since it mainly was artists, hipsters and others there to take in local art, but it was a mainly positive and unpretentious bunch. Only real problem I had with the place was that there was no air conditioning inside and only one fan to help cool the bar area. I know they probably won’t waste the money since they keep the garage doors open, but honestly I don’t want to spend the time getting myself all cute to go to a bar where my makeup is going to melt off. Just sayin’… All in all, I’d consider going back, especially if they always have such good installations. You’re okay MOCT, hope to see ya again soon.

I came here with my husband and a friend to watch the Pacquiao v. Mosley fight. We actually went to Fanatics first because it was the only place I could find that was showing it. We balked at the $ 20 cover fee and stood outside with a group of people, who also balked at the price, trying to find somewhere else. Damn, for just a little more, my husband and I could have bought the pay per view show ourselves in the comfort of our own home. Not cool, Fanatics. Luckily, another couple told us that Moct was showing the show for $ 5 and they were just around the corner. Moct to the rescue! They had two huge projection screens showing the fight, as well as one of the TVs over the bar. The other TV above the bar was showing a basketball game. We were there before any of the undercard fights and didn’t get charged the $ 5. We really appreciated this and made up for it by getting several drinks throughout the night. It was also easy to tip really well because the service was great. Take note, Fanatics, this is the way to do it!

I haven’t eaten here. I preface this by pointing out that glaring fact. These stars are for the staff and nightlife. I’m not sure if I should eat here, as I’ve heard stories of brunch spawning the most recent zombie apocolypse. I’m totally looking forward to the official zombie apocolypse and all, but not eating my way into it. So, night time. Loud sounds on Saturday nights with what I’ve seen to be solid dj’ing. Both times had UFC or some other MMA on the screens. The crowd was lacking in db’s(ask me if you’ve no idea what a db is, just know that the b is for bag) and fist-pumpers. For this, I love the scene. On the drinking end, I’ve never had an unhealthy pour, nor have I ever had an off-drink here. The staff is quick and courteous, and they do a solid job keeping up with faces at the bar and knowing when to stop chatting and move to the next drinker. Challenge Zoran to arm-wrestle for a shot. Especially if I’m there to see it.

The owner Nebi Tornica made a comment on my review, he wrote that he would like me to come in for brunch again on the house to make up for my bad experience. I messaged him my info so he could get in touch. Never got a phone call or anything. I was deleted from their facebook account. Way to handle a complaint Moct! Privately owned places ike this don’t really care about a complaint because they don’t follow corporate rules where great service is a priority.

I’ve only been to MOCT once, and it was for a fashion show several years ago. I was excited to go back last week when I learned they were serving food, and I came away sorely disappointed. The food is pretty standard bar-fare. I had buffalo wings that were the definition of average. My husband had a burger, which earned a lukewarm«meh.» The fries are«duck fat fries,» and were a bit polarizing amongst my dining companions. The fries were cooked well, but the flavor was really strange. I love truffle fries, so I was expecting something similar. The duck fat left an Olean-type feeling in my mouth(very slick) that was entirely unpleasant. However, the other couple we were with thought the fries were delicious. They also had a fantastic sangria. Friday was a $ 5 fish fry, and our friends found it be more than worth the price. I’m not a big fish fry fan, but it’s not a deal you can beat if that’s what you’re into. Overall, it was fine for bar food. There are certainly better options in the area, but if you’re in the mood for Fish Fry Friday, it’s a worthwhile stop.

I noticed that the previous reviewers concentrated on MOCT’s coolness or lack thereof as a dance club. I reckon most of the reviews were based on visits made well after my bedtime by folks nearly young enough for me to have given birth to them. But I digress. So I am writing this review on behalf of the more food motivated — and frankly, more rhythmically challenged, of my Unilocal brethren and sister’n. I recently visited for cocktails and appis, and came away a very happy girl. If you have never made the acquaintance of a potato that has been french friend in duck fat, know now that your life has been incomplete. And unlike most of life’s problems, you can fix this one for under $ 10. The frites were light, crispy and absolutely devoid of grease. I highly recommend dipping this promised land of an appi in the sriracha mayo. We also had the spinach version of the borek. I am not well acquainted with Serbian food, so I can’t comment on its authenticity and such, but I do know when I am in love. Ours was tender and flaky with buttery phyllo on the outside, and comforting and noodley with mild leaf-spiked cheese layers within. A thick tangy yogurt(and possibly sour cream) sauce was served on the side. We were told it fed two. We should have asked«Feeds two of what?» because it was far too much dinner for two adult humans who had just eaten duck fat fries. FYI, it’s good the next day, too… A return visit to sample the rest of the menu is a given. Cocktails were well-prepared and potent. Our waitress was cheerful and helpful. And the atmosphere was wonderful. We sat on the couches and enjoyed the night air through the open garage bays and marvelled at the ginormous glass art suspended from the celings. Well done, Milwaukee. :-)

Went on Gallery Night for the first time and was like dang, why haven’t I been here before!!! DJ was great. Vibe was great. It wasn’t really clubby that night, but I can imagine what it’s like. I’ll be back 4sure.

MOCT is one of those bars/clubs that add to the dynamic nature of Milwaukee. Overall, Milwaukee is known as a very laid back city with dive bars and a lot of Pabst. That’s true. However, the part of Milwaukee that most people don’t know is the attitude that MOCT brings to the scene. This is a true club that lead to an awesome time. While it’s not my favorite scene, I’ve been here a few times and it’s been great. You need to come on the weekend for some crowds. Then you can get your dance on… Surprisingly classy for stereotypical Milwaukee… but, I love it.

I think I want to like MOCT more than I do. Every time I’m in town I go there for a night, and I’ve honestly had 2 star evenings and 5 star evenings, and THAT’s why I can only settle on 3 stars. There’s no consistency. The music is all over the place. I’ve been there for fashion shows that have amazing DJs. I’ve been there on regular nights with fantastic DJs, so much so I didn’t want to leave at close. But there are some nights where management just says«eh, whatever». Over the last weekend, a Saturday night mind you, the DJ or iPod or XM station or whatever was on was awful. Everything from Prince to oldies to a decent house track or two. It was just a weird hodge podge. I’m sure they weren’t sweating it because Summerfest was crackin’ but there were still I’d say 60 people there. 60 people who aren’t necessarily OK with the music sounding like a Pandora station gone horribly wrong. So that was bad, but again, I’ve had nights where the DJs were just amazing. So my suggestion is give MOCT a shot, but research what’s up before you go. There are bars that you know will be fine whenever you go, but this is one of those«What’s see what’s up at MOCT» before you go kind of places. If you see they have a big name or special event I can guarantee a party for sure. Or even if it’s not a big name, ask who the DJ is, and then check out that DJs website. A little research goes a long way sometimes, and I think that’s my new plan for MOCT when I’m in the Mil.

It’s a great bar for any type of person. For the weary of downtown bar atmosphere’s and for the people who would like to dress up and go out. It’s a nice medium. And a great place for dancing. Although the last year or two has been a bit more sporadic as far as business… it’s still a great venue w/decent events, a great location and awesome ownership. Sometimes there’s food, sometimes there are fashion shows, there are huge garage doors and plam trees, most of the time there are dj’s, free pool on wednesdays, dance parties on the weekend, don’t go here if you want tap beer its still downtown, never a lot of fights, fast cocktail waitress service… etc. etc If you are going out with your friends who like to get dressed up to go out, but you don’t go here.

Pretty cool for Milwaukee. I just wish they had a better sounds system. oooh, when i was there we had free vodka drinks for girls before 11pm. And they let our friends play records one night. I met some friendly people. not too shabby

Even though MOCT is too cool for the likes of me, I do occasionally end up there with a friend who loves this place. I’m not much of a bar person in general, but if I’m going to hang out in a place with a sort of clubby atmosphere, this is ideal. In the summer, with the doors open and the warm evening air drifting in, it’s a great spot. They make good mojitos(I know that drink isn’t cool anymore, see?) and boast a very unique space. Friendly bartenders too!

this seems to be the only club in town willing to take a chance on dance music that isn’t trance/house for the striped shirt and batches crowd which is the only reason i can give it some points. excepting the cool relationship between the patio and dance floor, this has to be the worst designed club in town. i know they stole the pa from a vfw. i would sugest braving the cramped atmosphere of the river horse if you need to get footloose.

Moct(«Serbian for ‘bridge’») is a really interesting space and the bar itself is quite cool. I also like that they have(fairly good) student art on the walls, but damn get rid of those silly one-word captions all over the place and let the art speak for itself! Also the acoustics in here are terrible.
