Absolutely the best coffee in the city. Great staff and cool space too. If I had more free time I would totally spend it here.

I’ve drunk a lot of coffee over the years, friends. From small batch roasters in Seattle, to here in Milwaukee, which also has a burgeoning coffee culture that’s been really fun to explore! But I must tell you, Hawthorne Coffee is the best I’ve ever had in my life. The best. And I’ve had a lot of good coffee. I’ve tried several blends and origin coffees from Hawthorne, and every one has been outstanding. I have a little bit of an addiction. :-) The best part is putting your money back into the local economy and supporting a small business, as well as the idea that you can say you know the guy who makes your coffee. That’s pretty great. Who makes your coffee? Steve. Steve makes my coffee. :-) They have something for every taste. Absolutely delicious, enjoy some today!

Kendra, the owner of Hawthorne coffee is a wonderful and friendly lady. Her husband roasts the coffee. She has three kids 1 thru 5 and if you are lucky, you might be able to see those cute little kids. The likes of Hawthorne coffee are what made our American society, such a wonderful place. before starbucks and McDonalds. I admit — the coffee at Starbucks is very uniquely special and tasty. Hawthorne, with their fresh roasts, also offers pretty good coffee. More importantly, you will also enjoy the beautiful place that Kendra and her husband have set up in a quaint locale. Safe neighbourhood. Easy parking. Nice bar counter and rustic table setting. Very clean. Very friendly. Almost like the coffee shop version of the soda shop in Mayberry.

Great new coffee shop in town. Big tables, great pour over coffee, lots of space. Just wish they were open later!

I LOVE this place!!! First off, if you come here on a Friday or Saturday morning, you’ll be greeted by the AWESOME smell of a out barbecue, as Grate BBQ shares the space. The pourover coffee was perfectly prepared & served in a handmade pottery cup with«sidecar». Very hip & comfortable interior. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

As a long time BBQ fan and having traveled the State of Texas in search of the Holy grail — a/k/a perfect brisket — I never thought I’d find it in my own back yard. I did and I cannot rave enough about Iron Grate BBQ and Hawthorne Coffee Roasters. Excellent beef and excellent brew all under one roof. I was raised by a foodie who would buy bulk single origin coffee foe everyday use(Northwestern Coffee Mill upstairs only on Broadway Street. Hawthorne’s single origin Ethiopian was one of the best brewed cups of coffee — rivaling Joe Bean in Rochester, NY. Google it, this is high, high praise. The cup price was fair, the pound price a little steep for my pocket. I encourage everyone to try the strange mix of brisket, «Milwaukee Ribs» and hot sausage followed by an outstanding cup of coffee.

Hawthorne roasts some amazing coffee. If you are a coffee geek, this place will not disappoint. I am more into pour overs than espresso, but the espresso I have had has been excellent as well. This has become my go-to coffee shop in Milwaukee. In fact, my last trip to Chicago to try out some new places had me longing for a taste of home here in Milwaukee at Hawthorne, which I think is pretty high praise. I’ve turned a few friends on to this place and they’ve become regulars as well. Always a friendly face too, no snobbery here. Just bring a sweater, it’s been a little chilly in here this winter.

Anxiously awaited the opening of this place. Must admit was more excited about the partner Iron Grate BBQ Grill & the coffee was an additional perk.(Groan.) The coffee was excellent & my wife had a muffin which she said was absolutely delicious. We definitely will make this a regular stop. The timing was great also, we got out of church & stopped over to try the coffee & also the bbq. The bbq isn’t served until 11:00 a.m. which gave us the perfect amount of time to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while we ordered & waited on our bbq.

I have a love/hate relationship with coffee. I have rarely had a cup that wowed me. Coming here I wanted to experience what a good cup of coffee tastes like and I was wowed. I didn’t know coffee could be so good. I actually ended up trying two cups there! This place is a nice wide open space. They welcome families and I saw every walk of life in here. With a BBQ restaurant set to open(and it may be open now), I can see this being a great place to hang out and a great business for the community. This is what makes Milwaukee amazing. Tell Steve hi!

So excited to see a coffee shop in this space. And even more so after the fire smoked BBQ gets fired up later in the year! This is a family friendly neighborhood place without any of the snootiness one might find from some baristas. Having just opened, they focus primarily on well executed pour-over coffee and a few espresso drinks. Nothing fancy, but delicious. Some light bakery items are available to munch(muffins, cookies, etc). Holy Moley donuts will be coming on Fridays, yum. The décor is sparse and open, but more is gradually being added. Furniture consists largely of reclaimed items, giving it a kitschy feel. There is a large Amish style dining room table, a coffee table made from an old cart, and several tables that I swear came from my middle school chemistry lab. Soon to come is a kids play area making the place even more family friendly. The proprietors, Steve and Kendra, are friendly and will happily engage in conversation as they are grinding and pouring. Stop in for a cup!
