Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC

A welcoming and diverse community center that is well run. Good class offerings and equipment in a well-​designed facility with easy parking most of the time. The swimming pool is excellent.

The JCC (officially known as the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center) is a truly wonderful place. I’ll talk specifically about the fitness center in this review. Staff are always friendly. Facilities updated and clean. People actually wipe off the machines after using them! Many machines with their own televisions and sound. Have only had to wait to get on the one I wanted once. I appreciate that there is a wholesome family atmosphere and not a creepy one where I need to expect to be hit on in creepy situations. The women’s locker room is kept very clean and is spacious. Little extras like great lighting around the mirrrors and a swimsuit wringing machine. I have tried four different yoga classes with different teachers and liked them all, even though they were all very different from each other. There is a new yoga studio outfitted just for yoga. Its pretty cozy and warm. The JCC has plenty of equipment to go around for everybody — I have never found any lacking. There is a really great gym, always with a basketball game or two going on. And the pool… oh my, my favorite part. Minimal amount of chlorine is used in it (another process is used… having to do with osmosis, or reverse osmosis, or something) and the water quality just feels good on your skin. There is a standard size pool with lanes and a diving board, and a kids — sized pool. I like the attentiveness of the lifeguards and the casual tables and chairs around it. There is also an adjacent outdoor patio with lounge chairs if you feel like sitting in the sun for a bit. Also, a decent sized hot tub. The JCC is my place for a retreat!
