Let me start by saying even though this is far from my favorite library, I can see the intrinsic value they offer the community they serve. From what I can tell, they offer ESL classes, Spanish language job and technology assistance, and have a fairly sizable collection of Spanish language books. These are all fantastic resources that have a lot of value for the surrounding area. Now for my personal opinion. this is not a library I like spending time in. While it’s a pretty building on the outside, it’s usually very crowded on the inside. Hey, that just means it’s popular, right? Well, last time I was in there, there was a group of teens loudly arguing with each other, small children running around and pulling books to the ground, and the lines for the self checkouts were unreasonable long as people were struggling with the machines without any staff assistance. So, while this library is an invaluable community resource, it doesn’t feel like a library. It’s definitely not a place I could study for any amount of time, but it’s certainly worth while. There’s even some talk of purchasing a bigger building on Mitchell Street, which would go a long way in alleviating the crowding.
