I checked this place out today as a local paper said it was a must try for West Allis eateries. I’ve driven by this place more times than anything and always laughed as to why a Mexican restaurant would be attached to a gas station. As I was craving some tacos, I decided to stop by, and super glad that I did. There is not a whole lot to this place but about 5 tables, simple counter with stools, and kitchen behind the counter. Two older ladies were pressing fresh masa into tortillas, and as soon as I saw that, I knew this place had something to it. I ordered the burrito with al pastor, and a taco with carne asada. Their menu and prices were legit. They had pumpkin flowers, tongue, huaraches, etc. Right up my alley. The food came out from the lady cooking, with a lime wedge, and a red and green salsa. I started with the taco and that was authentic with just cilantro and onion. I doused that one with the salsa roja, the spicy one. It was rock solid. The fresh tortilla, no lies, sold this taco. I thought the steak could have used a bit more salt, but that did not stop me. The burrito was wrapped in foil, and weighed a ton. That build more excitement. The tortilla was seared and loaded with beans, rice, crema, al pastor, and and lettuce. It was good, but again, in my opinion needed some salt. Did I devour it? Yep. Total cost me around 9.50. Would I come back? Heck yes, and I will. Others around me ordered tacos, huaraches, and tamales. The tamales looked awesome.

The fresh tortillas for the tacos are the BEST. I’m never going to any other Mexican place in Milwaukee.

Awesome, affordable, flavorful — fantastic food. Echo other reviews — total hole in the wall spot with totally unexpected awesomeness. Three of us ate for $ 15(with sodas) AND they gave my wife a rose for Mothers Day.

Possibly the best taco ever. Fresh made corn tortillas and awesome flavor. I only had the steak tacos, and now I can’t get my mind off of them. I will be back!

Fast and kind service. I’ve enjoyed tacos and burritos. So far the Barbacoa is my favorite, it is phenomenal!

Best Mexican food in Milwaukee. We went there for dinner for the first time last night, went back for lunch today.

Always a great place to get authentic Mexican food, not that bastardized stuff from corporate! Have a Torta, full of the meat of your choice(go with barbacoa or Carne asada). Fills you up!

Total hole in the wall authentic Mexican restaurant that just so happens to be in a gas station. You can fill up two tanks at once. If you crave a delicious burrito and care more about the taste than the décor, this is your place! I had the chicken burrito with extra avocado and a side of guacamole for lunch and loved every bite. However, the red salsa it came with stole the show! It had just the right heat(meaning a good amount) and a smokey depth of flavor. I’ll be back!

I checked this place out with some co-workers for lunch. As previous reviewers have commented this is an unassuming place connected to a gas station. Don’t let the size of the place fool you though. They are cooking up some big flavors and make their own tortillas on site(you can hear the thunk of the tortilla press). I wanted order one of everything, but restrained myself knowing I had to go back to work and they have this no snoozing on the job policy. I ordered the Hurache with steak. It is a large corn tortilla stuffed with beans, then grilled, topped with meat, sauce, cheese, onion and cilantro. So good. You have to get there early cause they get super busy. My only complaint is that the paying situation. You order at the counter, they bring your food out and then once you are done you go back up to the counter to pay. Once it gets busy, then you have to wait to pay your bill. Would make more sense if you paid when you ordered.

Fantastic authentic food. People were consistently in and out with pick up orders with good reason that the tacos are some of the best Milwaukee has to offer. We were a bit thrown off being part of a gas station. I live by the concept that you shouldn’t fill your stomach up at the same place you fill your car. This is an exception. Friendly service. Past reviewers are right about ambience but I promise the food triumphs. We literally ate our meal and then ordered another one to go!

The best Menudo(very little to no gamey flavor) I’ve ever had and all corn tortillas are made fresh to-order! Lamb tacos tasty but a little greasy. Hubs had two steak and one chorizo taco. Both were very good. Enjoyed the Salsa Verde. We will go out of our way to return. Better than my local taco truck.

Excellent, authentic Mexican, or at least as close as you’ll get in Milwaukee. Don’t let the gas station location put you off, this is great food.

Very good… Not too many worthy Mexican places in west allis. I ordered the carne asada burrito with everything. One word, delicious! I really loved the salsa verde that came with my burrito. Muy riquísimo!!!

This place keeps it simple and delicious. Tacos with hand made tortillas, of course. I take out from his place at least once a week. The dining area is very small so dont plan to show up with a large party. Dont let the location throw you off, so what if its in a gas station :) Try the enchiladas verdes and agua de melon.

Get yo tamales here! They were large and packed fulla flavor.(better than El Rey… did I say it? I said it). The tamales de pollo had more of a kick, so I thought for that reason they were better than el puerco. Haven’t had anything else on the menu, so I can’t consider this a solid review. Based on the meats and flavors of the tamales though, I think these people do it right. Don’t come here for ambiance. It’s attached to a gas station. Definitely a take-out kind place.

I stopped in for the first time a few nights ago. The menu is limited and the space is small, since it shares a building with a gas station. There are two or three tables for dining in, but this place was intended for carry-out service. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas and tamales make up the menu. I decided on a chicken enchilada dinner with salsa verde($ 8.50). The salsa verde is mild, while the salsa roja is hot. I prefer the flavor of salsa verde without the heat so this worked well for me. The rice and beans had nice texture and good flavor. The shredded chicken was tender and also had a nice flavor. The enchiladas themselves were not smothered with cheese and sauce. Instead the cheese was lightly sprinkled on top and the salsa verde was lightly poured over, and I like that approach. It made the dish look made-to-order versus out of a large batch for the masses. The dinner also came with a side salad of lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced avocado. The tomatoes and avocado looked and tasted fresh. The lettuce, not so much. I thought the avocado was a nice touch. I think the food came out in about 5 minutes, may a bit longer. I have other options closer to my house for Mexican food, but this is one I will work into the rotation, and I definitely recommend that you pay them a visit. The food is good and the prices are fair. The venue is small and unappealing, but it is fine for what it is, «a take-out food joint.» It’s not the best Mexican food I’ve had in Milwaukee, so 4 stars versus 5, but it is definitely good enough to hold it’s own against the others.

From the same owners of the delectable food cart on 27th and National. This awesome, very small dine in restaurant opened in August 2014. They serve huaraches, taco plates, quesadillas and tortas($ 5 each) just like the cart. But they also have gorditas, burritos and tamales too. Super authentic, super friendly and super that they now have another location!
