We were visiting Milwaukee from Las Vegas during downtown dining week and we did not have reservations. It was packed. The staff was kind and got us a spot at the bar to eat. Best food ever! Drinks too! Best service, sweet, nice bartenders just an overall great experience. A man on the street recommended this place and he was right! They did not disappoint. If you are traveling to Milwaukee and want a meal you won’t forget give them a try!!!

This was my first time at Carnevor. I was treating my father for his 75th birthday. It was an A+ experience all around… and we were both incredibly impressed from the start. I had made reservations on Open Table and mentioned it was my dad’s birthday. However, we were surprised when we sat down and opened the leather-bound menus to see«Happy 75th Birthday Dad!!» printed at the bottom of the first page. This was a very nice touch and our waitress — who was fantastic — placed them in an envelope for us. I’m not a fan of long reviews so will try to be brief, but wanted to point out this very nice gesture. In short, everything was delicious and prepared perfectly. My dad got the surf & turf(8 oz filet and lobster) holy $%&* was it good… and I got the NY strip; both were outstanding. To start I got the tuna tartare(probably the best I’ve had) and my Dad got the shrimp scampi, also excellent. For dessert they brought out a fantastic dessert(on the house) of homemade warm donut-like puffs?(sorry…forgot what they were called) with 3 dipping sauces… presented with a candle. In all, a wonderful experience. Thank you, Carnevor, for making the evening special. I will be back with my wife.

Finally we have dined here and I will say we were disappointed. We ordered the filet(this was ok) and prime rib(very flavorless). The lobster bisque was bitter tasting, the best things we ate were the salad and dessert. Our favorite steakhouse is still Five O Clock, great food for the price, never disappoints.

Now I know why the reviews are all over the map on this place. We were staying at the Pfister and celebrating a friend graduating with her Master’s from UWM. Carnevor was recommended by others in our group. The first problem was that we had a reservation, the place wasn’t full by any stretch and we were left hanging there at the greeter stand while they worked out how and where to seat us. Our group was 7 people. That should not have caused the challenges it appeared to. On a positive note, our server was very good. I read reviews afterwards about snarky and aloof wait staff, but that was not our experience. Our server was professional, courteous and knew the menu. The food is where I really took issue. I had a flank steak special, which to their credit was done medium rare. But this steak was so salty that I didn’t finish it. Another person in our party had the same problem. With the prices where they are, I expected more. I was really curious about the«special beef» from the owner’s farm etc. Good story, poor execution. Next time we’re in Milwaukee, I think we’ll go to 5 O’Clock Steakhouse instead.

I can not recommend Carnevor enough. We have been there numerous times and have phenomenal food and service every time. The food is well worth the money and the service is great, but not overbearing. Carnevor is one of our favorites.

Excellent steak! Everything my party of 10 ordered was phenomenal! The wait staff was fast and friendly, and I liked the intimate environment! Will definitely return!

We were there for our 28th wedding anniversary on May 7, 2016 and it was an amazing, awesome and outstanding experience Our waiter Stan was phenomenal! Stan made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant and he was simply wonderful and personable, we cannot say enough about Stan. In fact we will ask specifically for him the next time we are there. We had the shrimp scampi and I had the filet with the African Lobster and my husband had the Wago steak along with asparagus and risotto. My gosh everything just melted in our mouth. This will be the only place I ever order lobster from and my husband says no other steak compares. We had the crème brûlée, which I have never had before and wow was it good and it came with this incredible cream. We also had the donuts and they melted in your mouth. We drove from Chicago strictly to go to carnivor and I would do it over and over again. The owner/manager came over twice to ask us how everything was. Thank you all for providing us with such a grand and amazing dining experience!!!

Came here for a business meal the other night. Sat in the bar for dinner. The bartender/server was friendly and helpful, guiding us through recent menu changes. I had a salad and a dry-aged NY strip, which was fantastic. Paired with the lobster mac and cheese, I’m not sure I need to eat again this week. A really wonderful meal. I would choose one of their interesting starters instead of a salad next time. Go on, live a little.

I have been going to Carnevor at least once every year for my annual b’day dinner for the past few years and sincerely thought that Carnevor served the best dry aged steak perhaps, arguably in the US. Having moved to NYC I was excited to be visiting Milwaukee and looking forward to once again savoring my favorite steak — unfortunately the experience was a disaster. We ordered two dry aged NY strip steaks with a bottle of wine that we loved last time we visited 3 months back. My steak was medium rare and my fiancé ordered medium. My steak was prepared exactly how I remember my each and every steak from the past, unfortunately my fiancé thought that something was wrong with her steak so I took a bite of her steak — it was rancid and spoilt. I requested the manager to stop by and when he finally did his first few questions(accompanied with a terrible attitude) were more so to educate me about dry aged steak instead of uttering a single word of apology for serving a rancid steak. He took the steak back saying that they will make a new one in 7 mins — it took 22 mins for the steak to arrive — till then we had split and shared my steak and filled up on the side of fries that we both had ordered. Needles to say that we barely touched the second steak. The best part is that the manager did not have the courtesy to stop by and check if we got the steak on time like he promised or apologize for serving a spoilt steak — a courtesy that u would expect to receive at any, leave alone a fine dinning establishment. I should have taken the steak to the department of health — this was my last time visiting Carnevor!

I have a very detailed pending review on Trip Advisor. So I am not going to write the whole thing again. But I will say that we went there tonight for the first and, most likely, last time. This is supposed to be a steak house. Everything was good or very good EXCEPT the steak! I ordered a high quality New York strip that was RUINED twice in the kitchen. The service was superb but the food not so much. Read my full review on Trip Advisor assuming it is approved by the moderator. If you do go to this restaurant, ask a lot of detailed questions. And be prepared for your wallet to get a lot lighter.

Went a few doors down to the new location for an early dinner. Food aside, the off gassing of paint, finishes and adhesives presents a powerful odor as you enter the door. Having recently remodeled 12,000 square feet of new space in our offices I appreciate the challenges of new construction. However, there are ways to mitigate the problems with proper planning and fighting the urge to rush the opening at the expense of your customers. The smell problems should abate with with time. I was disappointed in the transformation of a light and lively space into what is now a dark and cave like interior that reverberates with noise that makes conversation all but impossible. That same care and thoughtfulness in design was also lacking in other aspects of the evening. While service was very good in most respects, there seemed to be a sense of urgency about getting us fed and out that might be acceptable in a fast-casual restaurant, but not when you are spending in excess of $ 300 for two in downtown Milwaukee. The steaks were great, but the sides in most respects disappointing. Somebody in the kitchen needs to be schooled on how to make creamed corn. The shrimp cocktail consisted of too small shrimp that were soft and unappetizing saved only by a pretty good cocktail sauce. The roasted bone marrow was very good but did not benefit from bread drenched in garlic butter. The mini twice baked potatoes were clever and good. The wine list and the by the glass selection was well suited to a steak house. The mark up was in most respects was reasonable. In short if I’m looking for a steak in in downtown MKE I will stick with Ward’s or Mason Street Grill.
