This an enjoyable place to eat. The fish sandwich and fries are good. It’s nice that they have both Pepsi and Coke products. It’s fun to set outside and eat near the river.

The food and service is always great. The fish sandwich is simple at best but very good. It’s the one thing I miss about living in central PA.

This is my first review on Unilocal and it’s well worth reading. I am visiting here from East Tennessee traveling with my job and everything especially the prices were great. I loved how the outdoor atmosphere really complemented the food. I will be back(work permitted) btw the service was amazing also my server Christine was well informed about the menu and the area … Cash and local checks only … Lastly the milk shakes are great don’t believe the other review I forget who said it was bad thanx a lot guys … P. s. A large company bought out the bread stores around so the bread is as local as it gets

It’s gorgeous here. What a lovely little picnic spot. The servers are nice and the fish sandwich is good but not great. If they just didn’t use generic, store bought rolls for their sandwiches they could really have something special here. Unfortunately, the draw of this place is only the location & novelty. The actual fish in the fish sandwich is fried beautifully & the sauce is homemade & worth the hype. It’s really just missing some fresh bread… which, I suppose they could just obtain locally since a place not even a mile away from them makes fresh bread. Lastly, the shakes are just blah, but it’s nice that they are available on a hot day.

Ate here a few years ago while visiting family in Lewisburg(across the river). Great experience. Favorite kind of spot. Roadside, right on the water, fish… Reasonable prices, good food, great atmosphere(that is if the weather permits) sitting outside overlooking the river. If you’re anywhere near you should stop and check it out.

If I could, I would give The Fence 0 stars solely for the reason that it’s web site says nothing about being closed for the winter. If you are only open«in season» then you should say so on your website!

Wonderful piece of Americana. Fish sandwiches are good but not necessarily worth the trip, however, the riverside setting is. The staff is friendly and the process fair. Stop by if you are driving by on a warm summer day.

It was ok. No cards accepted. Its a bit outdated if you ask me. The fish sandwich was alright. Fries were ok.

Smelled wonderful but sadly, they don’t take credit cards so we were out of luck. So ridiculous in today’s world.

Really wanted to like this place. I wanted to see what the rave was about. I moved into Milton last year(2012) and heard so many people raving over The Fence. I attempted to locate it however my Iphone was taking me to this weird spot. I finally found the place and it was too late it was already closed for the season. Fast forward 2013 spring rolls around and I hear it has opened… I begged my husband for 2 weeks to visit this spot. He surprises me and brings home a fish sandwich basket. I was very disappointed It tasted like a frozen fish stick sandwich. It did not have the fresh fish taste, honestly it was on the McDonald’s level of fish sandwich. It had no flavor and just very Blah. I am going to give them one more try and go with the shrimp basket .lets see how this goes.

The view around the restaurant is great food sucked. Gordon fisherman fish. Food not seasoned properly. No peanut oil was used to prepare the food.

The first time I ever went was several years ago. We didn’t understand how fried fish in a hot dog roll was«the best fish sandwich ever.» It was ok. But then we went back. If you’ve tried it & don’t like it, just please try again. It’s just classic goodness — like a grilled cheese sandwich made with yellow American cheese on Wonderbread. Don’t listen to the hype, and instead, just enjoy the fun of a drive-in restaurant, with friendly waitresses, a BEAUTIFUL view, & great food. Again, if you let someone’s praise of «the most amazing sandwich you’ll ever have» take your expectations to a Michelin star rated restaurant instead of a backyard barbecue, you might be bummed, so enjoy a place giving you the best picnic by the river you could ask for!

I am a fun — a huge fan — and I have been for years. Part of it is tradition. This place has been around for a long time(despite being washed away due to the flooding of the Susquehanna river a few times). My grandparents went on dates here when they were teenagers! The Food: The fish sandwiches are classis. Please don’t expect anything healthy, though. The menu says it’s fried in cholesterol-free peanut oil… but it’s all fried. The scallops are good too… though they’re fried. Take my word for it and go for the fish sandwich basket. You won’t regret getting the fries, and you may get an extra sandwich on your way out. I enjoy the milkshakes, and others love the fresh-berwed ice tea or lemon blend. The Atmosphere: You can eat in your car if it’s raining(turn your lights on to show you want service). You can canoe down the Susquehanna river, pull up along the shore, and sit at a picnic table for lunch(my mother has done this — sit anywhere you like). You can even go inside with a large group and enjoy the air conditioning. But only during the«season» — this place closes in the winter. You pay right after they bring the food. I only make it out to PA once or twice during the«season,» but when I do, I visit The Fence for a fish sandwich. I highly recommend it!

The food is probably not that good, but my friends and I have a soft spot for the fence. It’s great to grab a bite while sitting in the shade next to the river. We’ve never eaten there in our cars, but I guess some people are into that. I order the fish sandwich basket every time, and I never feel the urge to deviate from that choice. Sometimes I get two. Life is good.

YUM. While central PA seems to be lacking in the greasy spoon category, it does have The Fence. I adore this place. The servers are cheerful and friendly, the seafood is fresh and delicious, and the prices are totally reasonable. I’m fairly certain they make their own tartar sauce(if not, please don’t tell me otherwise…) I never thought I’d enjoy eating fish on the Susquehanna River so much.

Great part of Americana Drive-in. Simple menu, good burgers & fish baskets. River-side picnic tables, curb service or dine-in. Worth the trip.
