I have been a student at Elmond Leung’s Wing Tsun(aka wing chun) school for the past six months and have been extremely impressed by the level of training and personal attention given to me and the other students by the si-hing(senior students). Instruction and training is geared toward the individuals ability, hence one’s development is in a way dependent on ones desire and commitment to learn. A by product of the training is both improved cardio and improved reflexes, important to someone like myself who is a senior(late 60’s) looking for a martial arts school that is geared to my individual ability and potential. All of the staff are humble and personable which provides a very enjoyable environment for learning. I started my martial arts training over 50 yrs ago in karate and gravitated to kung fu in my 20s and followed the rote sets without a lot of explanation as to how each movement was applicable to real life situations. In this school, all subsequent techniques are explained and how they tie back to the movements in the sets, You will feel very comfortable in this school and accepted by everyone training there. I highly recommend this school if you are interested in learning the art of Wing Tsun and want to improve your cardio vascular at the same time.

I have been a member of Elmond Leung’s Wing Tsun school for 3 months now. I find the quality and consistency of the training to be excellent, by Sifu Elmond and his outstanding senior students. I attend in both Millbrae and San Francisco(the latter managed by Elmond’s senior disciple Sifu Joseph Mah). Wing Tsun, Ving Tsun, Wing Chun(as it is pronounced), are all English transliterations of the same Chinese words, and refer to the southern Chinese Kung Fu system that was taught to martial-artist and movie star Bruce Lee, by senior students of Yip Man. It is my understanding that Sifu Elmond is the senior-most representative of his Kung Fu lineage in the United States today. He operates an independent school, teaching the authentic Wing Tsun. Having trained in 3 other Ving Tsun lineages over the past many years, I want to share my sincere view that the Wing Chun forms and applications I have learned from Sifu Elmond seem more coherent and complete than anything I have previously come across. This is probably due both to the commitment of the lineage founder to coherence and completeness, and to Sifu Elmond’s own skill and personality. I can sincerely recommend this school to anyone who is interested in learning Wing Chun, for balance, coordination, timing, sensitivity, relaxation, general health, and self-defense, with a really nice and talented group of men and women.

I have studied several Japanese & Korean martial arts(Judo, Karate & Tae Kwon Do) over the years, but have always had an interest in Wing Tsun(aka«Wing Chun»). However, I had never found the right combination of teacher and convenient location to make it happen. A little over one year ago, I decided to research local Wing Tsun schools in Unilocal and visited a few to see whether one might be a good fit for me. Finding the right school is a very personal process. The first School I visited simply had the wrong atmosphere for me and seemed to be teaching a hybrid of several different styles rather than a more traditional style which is what I wanted. I visited the second school(E Leung Wing Tsun) on a Sunday morning with my youngest son. We arrived at the beginning of class and I introduced myself to Sifu Leung(the school master). I asked permission to observe the class to see if it was a good fit for me. Sifu was very personable asked me if I was interested in a lesson. I was and so he asked one of his senior instructors to work with me. Wing Tsun is based on very simple but effective movements and principles and was very different from the other styles I had studied before. I realized I would be starting over from the beginning as I had to ‘unlearn’ everything I had learned in Karate and TKD. The stance and strikes were very different and I really struggled to understand how to execute the new techniques. From my first lesson I could see that one could learn these«simple» techniques relatively quickly to establish basic proficiency and enjoy their practice, but that they would take years to master. I was hooked. I enrolled that first day and have since attended 2 – 3 classes every week(except for a few absence for travel). The style is a very«traditional» form of Wing Tsun as Sifu was a student of Sifu Leung Ting in Hong Kong, who was a student of Yip Man. The class is relatively small, comprising most days of approximately 8 – 12 students whose skills range from true novice to expert-level instructors. Most of the lessons are taught by an instructor, who is, in turn, a student of Sifu Leung. The Wing Tsun school is structured like a family, with students who started before you as your older siblings and mentors, while those who start after you as your younger siblings. Lessons are highly individualized based on your skill level and the pace at which you learn. After group exercises at the beginning of each class session, the instruction is typically broken into small working groups of 3 and 4 students who are learning the same skills as demonstrated and coached by an instructor(or experienced older sibling). Sifu supervises all of the instruction and works with each of the smaller groups, often demonstrating the nuances of the techniques we are learning and providing context for, and explaining the importance of, the various techniques. It’s a great environment in which to learn and I have learned quite a lot for the relatively short time I’ve been a student here. Classes meet three times per week for two hours per session. I try to attend 2 – 3 times each week. It’s been easy for me to stay motivated to attend as many sessions as possible because I really enjoy the challenge of improving my proficiency and I’m excited about how much I’ve learned since I started. For me, I have found the right style and school. This has been the most interesting and enjoyable of my experiences learning martial arts and I hope(and expect) to be a life-long student. As I mentioned above, finding the right school and style is a very personal process, but if you’re interested in Wing Tsun, I would highly recommend visiting this school to watch a class to see if it’s a good fit for you.

I have been going here for about 2 months and highly recommend this school. I admire martial arts schools that are humble and do not sell anything other than the art itself. I have been given personal attention by the teacher and instructor in all the classes I attended so far. Highly recommended.
