Bothin Marsh Preserve

The marsh, squeezed on all sides by civilization, is hardly a serene place. Traffic noise from the Richardson Bay Bridge, and surrounding neighborhoods, is pervasive. Most (non-​cycling) people seem to visit for daily exercise, usually with kids and/​or dogs in tow. Weather permitting there are nice views of Mount Tamalpais, and you’ll have the opportunity to watch some standard marsh wildlife, including ducks, gulls, egrets, and ravens.
This 106 acre preserve incorporates a tidal wetland that is a small reminder of the vast salt marshes that once surrounded San Francisco Bay. This quiet inlet at the north end of Richardson Bay, surrounded by cordgrass and pickleweed, is home for several endangered species. While these species may not be evident to every visitor, the number of shorebirds and waterfowl that rest and feed here is always an attraction.
Shorebirds and waterfowl flock to this wetland in winter; the surrounding pickleweed is home to endangered species like the Salt-​marsh Harvest Mouse and the California Clapper Rail.
