Recent business dinner. Food marginal for a $ 100 meal. Thing that really lit me up was getting a $ 2.50 «rocks upcharge» for ice in a $ 5.75 Jack Daniels. A couple bucks is not going to change my lifestyle, but really — for a couple ice cubes? Check your receipts — $ 5.34 added for«CST» whatever that is. I travel extensively for work and eat in restaurants nearly every day, all over New England. Haven’t seen either of these before this bill.

Great local place. Extremely friendly staff and fresh seafood. Chef is classically trained and menu has plenty of options. Definitely sit in the bar area and make reservations.

Solid place, just good old school seafood, and friendly neighborhood feel. The clam chowder was good(I’m partial to NE style over RI style but theirs is still really good). Clams Casino — is what I ordered, probably anything in the clam realm here is good. Apple crisp — was awesome definitely order desert here. If I pass through again I’ll be back.

For us — this is our treat place. Fan-fng-tastic. Great seafood. But they have great land stuff as well. Warm on a old night. Sit in the bar if there is room. Good oldies playing. If you’re lucky they’ll be some frog or airplane hanging over your head. There is always great conversation. Julie is totally cool and the hostess with the mostess. My problem with them is a need to eat less when I go, and maybe drink more. And I further think they should offer discounts for people who have names beginning with R. It’s a little pricey.

Big fan of Scriber’s restaurant. It’s in a beautiful spot on the Sound in Milford, tucked away in a residential area. I’ve been half a dozen times and never been disappointed. You can relax at the bar or sit in one of the two dining rooms for a «dinner experience». If you’re lucky, Scribner will come out and do the rounds and greet you. He’s ridiculously friendly and just wants to please his customers. Highly recommend!

I live 20 yards across the street. Food is good but a little over priced. Since its right near the beach I wish they appealed more to people of all ages(older crowd). My friends come over and ask were to get a drink and I wish we could just walk across the st. but end up at dive bar instead. They don’t have any music, night or happy hr appeal. My main issue is their loitering problem. There are a few people that sit on the bench out front(mainly one kid with a red curly Afro type thing)(EDIT: now a shaved head) ALL day and night(b4 they open and after they close; probably selling drugs; random people stop and meet this dude EVERYDAY and I watch the exchange; at least hide it better). I sound nosey becuz its blatantly obvious and I tell It as it looks; the people that loiter out front look filthy & sketchy and it seems scribners is completely blind to it. As for scribners, I would recommend it if u love seafood, because it is good food, but the environment is EXTREMELY quiet; it’s almost like people whisper while conversing.

The food is very good. Fresh oysters — what else is there! Good steamers. The lobster/shrimp bisque was good as well as unique. Thankfully, it was not the over-thickened, viscous, ‘gloppy’ varieties one regularly sees. It was nice & smooth with a gravy-like texture. AND — they have Rhode Island clam chowda — worth the drive. This is about as close to NYC as I’ve seen RI chowder. In my book, all New England clam chowder does is just mask the taste of the clams with cream & flour. Chowder for clam haters. The halibut was a tad overdone, not dry, but overdone for my sashimi taste. Old school décor, lotsa wood. Quiet, so you can hold a conversation without shouting or turning up your hearing aide(sic). Good service. Nice wine list & there are ½ off wine bottle specials on certain days with 2 entrees — that’s a bargain! The only pick I have to nit is that the entrance on street side is the«smokers lounge». Butts on the sidewalk & doorway, and the smelly butt-holder next to the wooden bench. Not appetising, and my wife will not go back because of that. Me, I’d ignore it unless it was really gross. Four stars is a ‘looking forward to coming back’. Caveat: I’ll give a place 5 stars if it is top in class or pretty much right up there.

This is one of my favorite places in the area. Located near the water, this unassuming place serves some delicious grub. The best place to sit is in the bar area. Kitschy decorations and a lively crowd make it a cozy atmosphere, whereas the dining room can be a bit boring. The highlights of the menu are the tuna nachos, The Woodmont Burger, and The Clams Casino. I always look forward to going back.

One of my favorite restaurants in Milford. Their Rhode Island clam chowder is one of my favorites. Service is always excellent. Reservations strongly recommended, especially on the weekends.

Our visit was a colossal disappointment. We will not return. This place has long past it’s prime and based on our experience is now mostly a bar hangout. Unless you’re just into drinking, find somewhere else to eat! We arrived at 5PM on a Friday night to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary. We asked not to be seated in the bar area and were taken into the dining room which we assumed would be cozier. Wrong! The dining area should be renamed«Grand Central Station» because a steady stream of barflies(bar patrons) entering the restaurant from the back door trot right through the dining room! There is only one aisle going through a very small dining room(4 or 5 tables on either side) so if you don’t mind the noise, interruption and bustle of people constantly brushing past your table this is the place for you. Before we ordered we asked if the portions on the Early Bird menu were the same as the regular dinner menu and were told Early Bird portions were smaller. Due to this we both ordered off the regular dinner menu, as we were both hungry. FOOD: We chose stuffed clams($ 8.95) for our appetizer. The waitress advised us that the plate was hot… but the clams were barely warm. They were topped with a piece of bacon and the flavor was good but eating lukewarm food is unappetizing. I order the baked, stuffed scallops served en casserole. HUGELETDOWN! The scallops were supposed to be topped with seafood dressing(stuffing) but what I received were 6SMALL scallops drowning in pool of strong wine and butter with a few SOGGY breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. There was so much liquid and so few breadcrumbs it had the consistency of a bowl of SOUP! You could have poured it into a cup! I took one bite of a scallop(enough to taste a sharp, overpowering wine flavor) and sent it back. I asked the waitress if it was always like that and she said it looked as if the cook used too much wine and butter. I asked«Dressing means stuffing right? It should be seafood stuffing?» and she said yes and apologized. ++What I received was scallop and breadcrumb soup… nothing like the description on the menu.++ My husband ordered the fish and chips($ 18.95). The texture and taste of the fish was perfect but there were only two pieces each 4″ x 3″. That’s all you get for $ 18.95? The french fries were hard, dry and flavorless. After 5 minutes on his plate they became rock hard and were inedible. The cole slaw was bland but the tartar sauce was fantastic. Because the waitress said making fish and chips would be quick, I ordered that and waited 5 — 7 minutes for my second entrée to arrive but it was really disappointing not to eat at the same time especially considering it was our anniversary dinner. :( The house salad consisted of lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and onion and was fresh but with these prices I expected olives, croutons and cucumbers too. SERVICE: Our server Nancy was friendly. She was obviously overextended(waiting on too many tables) but that is management’s fault. Nancy took the scallop dinner back with grace. My only negative observation was that she didn’t ask us if we wanted coffee or dessert… either she was too busy or assumed we did not want any after I returned the scallops but it was our anniversary dinner… we did want dessert! Unfortunately we went elsewhere for dessert and coffee after we left. :( DECOR: The tables are set with linen tablecloths and small hurricane candles. The clear glass on our candle had spots and splotches all over it… not the kind of thing you want to see in an eatery which should be spotlessly clean. The dining room is depressing and does not reflect the reputation of what was once a 5 star restaurant. The large posters of fish species need to go. The toy trucks in the ceiling rafters are out of place and the dull brick paint(reminiscent of stockade fence stain) is dark, dreary and drags the atmosphere down. Considering the two teal wing chairs before the electric fireplace I would paint the walls an icy aqua and by all means get rid of the mismatched jumble of cheap junk on the walls. The bar area is wood paneled, updated and nice but bars are just money-makers for restaurants… the dining area is what matters and this one looks dated and needs help.

Scribner’s has been around for a long time and if you know it you will go back. The food is great; fresh seafood, creativity while making specials and flavorful. The service is alright; they are usually there when you need however could ask more. I am the type of person that won’t ask for a second drink but if I am asked I will accept, this can also help with their guest average. I will say the crowd in there is always a bit older, so they probably don’t want to be «disturbed» as much. My husband and I still think it’s a hidden gem.

I tried the fish & chips tonight. The fish was delicious and the salad was too. The chips were a bit soggy — not up to par. Cold slaw was good. Service was excellent. I will be back.

The wife and I went here on a Monday night and honestly the food was atrocious it was really worse than what I could cook the other thing was it we noticed the waitress never after of the food was my wife had the shrimp scampi I had to bake stuffed sole and it was a special early bird special maybe that was the problem I would completely with them out but perhaps you want to go there on a weekend when the better chef is there.

I went with my family for valentines day. While the food was good, the time spent waiting for the food. There was only 1 person waitressing and it wasn’t even that busy. The dessert was really good though. I was stuffed! But we couldn’t figure out where the additional parking was and the street that intersected was one way.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the seafood was! While it was a bit strange that they still had a Christmas tree in July(maybe something was going on I didnt know about because it was decorated in red white ans blue) the food was amazing! The waitress was super friendly and very attentive. Overall very good. We will be back!

I feel like this is a hidden gem tuck away in a residential area. The chef’s specials menu that are featured each day provide creative options that are always a treat. I love the heat scale that is used to rate the food. I normally always order off the specials menus so I don’t have a staple dish to recommend to customers. I can’t imagine that there would be a bad thing that you could order. The wait staff at the bar are friendly and do a fantastic job.
