Excellent restaurant in Milford, NH. I went home for the holidays to see my folks in North Central Massachusetts. We anticipated that nobody would want to cook at the house the day after Christmas. As a result, mom made reservations at Mile Away in advanced. This is a recommended strategy, as the restaurant can get busy. What an excellent experience! The restaurant is housed in a barn built in 1812, which was part of a farm dating back to 1746. You really feel like you are in a barn once you enter the dining area, which boasts one of the largest and most authentic fireplaces I have ever seen. Service was very good, as our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. He even gave us a solid tip on a tea store down the street. The food was delicious and plentiful. I ordered a four-course dinner, which came with an appetizer, salad, entrée with a side, and dessert for an extremely reasonable price($ 26). Started off with the Swedish meatballs and they were tasteful. Caesar salad came next, and the lettuce was extremely fresh. My entrée was the duck du jour, which came in a blackberry sauce. This was outstanding, and I recommend getting the rice pilaf as a side. Finished the meal with a bang by devouring the chocolate layer cake. We left with full stomachs and fond memories. Thanks for the great meal! I highly recommend trying it.

My nana has always hosted Thanksgiving, but now that she’s in her 90s we thought we’d take her out for it instead! We had a great holiday dinner at Mile Away. Full cocktail menu including caramel apple vodka sangria, 4 course meal with great choices(I had the maple salmon for an entrée) and we all especially loved our desserts. The atmosphere is quiet, cozy, and warm with the big fireplace up front, and all the staff were super friendly. Thanks for making our non-traditional Thanksgiving a great experience!

We have been coming here for years. Mile Away has the best Weinerschnitzel around. Friendly staff and great food that is consistantly excellent. Great atmosphere. I particularly like the huge woodburning fireplace in the winter.

This is a beautiful place. Lovely grounds, gardens and a New England style colonial interior. The restaurant is not huge, and you absolutely need reservations. There are two dining areas, which cuts down on the noise. While there are a few German style dishes on the menu, this is not a German restaurant. There is a variety of food ranging from German, to Continental, to American meat lover and even Vegetarian. If you are looking for an ego-chef menu style, you will be disappointed. The fare is more-or-less classic, but beautifully executed with fresh ingredients. The last time I was there my party of five got Holsteinschnitzel, Prime Rib, Baked Stuffed Haddock, Cordon Bleu Chicken and Duck prepared with a Blueberry sauce. All were wonderful. Mile A Way offers a four course package with appetizer, salad, main course and desert. It takes a while to eat through the meal, figure two hours. We were not rushed, and in fact the service was excellent. Including the tip and beverages,(mostly non-alcoholic) the bill was about $ 185– very reasonable for what we got.

Overrated in my opinion. Musty smell at entrance. Like damp carpet. Staff were first rate, but menu did not offer much. I say this while observing a packed house. Something must be right here, but I did not find it. Too expensive for me. But again not for the well heeled locals who clearly like it. You must see for yourself.

We left this place very full. Generally speaking this restaurant offers a four-course meal for just a few dollars more than the price of an entrée. The prices of the entrees are reasonable in themselves, but unless you are arriving at the restaurant with a half full stomach, you get the full value if you go with the four course meal. The courses are an appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert. All were amazing, though I will say that their flourless cake was served a little too chilled. Casual, rustic atmosphere, full bar. We’ll be back.

Pleasant dinner experience this evening. Quality food, the right portions with the 4 course dinner. A standout– the service was really well done. We talked about the service on our way home, sad to say but you just don’t find that too often. Plates between courses whisked away and didn’t really notice. Same with our water glasses, constant attention without knowing it was happening. Pleasant staff, attentive and nicely done. Nice job Mile Away!

Been there many time and always lie the escargot and they have great prime rib. I get the king cut medium with their mashed potatoes. I have never had a bad one. At the end of the meal they have a selection of deserts that I would recommend trying them all.

Very nice, charming place. The inside is more spacious than it looks from the outside. The dinner menu has lots of variety and for the price, it’s a great value. You pick an entrée and two sides, and it includes either a hot or cold appetizer, a salad and a dessert. All for around $ 20. Not bad at all. I will definitely be back!

My husband and I went here for our 1st anniversary which also happens to be my birthday, so I was looking for somewhere extra special. The staff at the mile away, the 4 course dinner, and the ambience couldn’t have made for a more perfect evening. Reservations are highly recommended as this place does get busy. There are so many menu options to choose from. The surf and turf was excelllent. It was the most tender and flavorful steak I’ve had in a very long time. I couldn’t believe how much food came with the four course meal. The appetizer came out, then the salad, then the main entrée, then the dessert. The staff was so wonderful I never felt rushed. They had the timing down perfectly. One thing I can’t stand is when all my food comes out at the same time and I get that rushed feeling, but you definitely won’t find that to be the case here. This restaurant is relaxed, romantic, and just perfect for any special occasion. I will be back again.

Wow! I heard about this place for years(and years) and finally got the chance to have lunch there yesterday with my family. The service is outstanding and the food is fantastic! They do a nice four course priced meal where you pick from their huge menu of app, salad, entre and dessert — none of us went home hungry after that meal. The place is still hugely popular — reservations are a must — call before you head over as there is not much around to go to as your second choice if you can’t get in. This is not a fast food place, the four course meal will take well over an hour but you will not notice the time going by at all — we spent almost two hours on Sunday afternoon over a nice dinner! The Beef Stroganoff was great, as was their 8 oz filet and the cowboy pork chop special — every plate was done perfectly. We will definitely go back again to try out more of their menu. Some people might be put off by their old time barn dining room — it is charming and old word styled, not a modern upscale flashy place — this is old school that transports you to the old country in a very comfortable and warm setting.

Thoroughly enjoyable! This was my first visit and would certainly go back. Saturday night dinner with family and all meals were seasoned well, ample and excellent service. We opted for the 4 course offering, reasonably priced the prime rib only offered on weekends is highly recommended. I found the menu interesting, wine menu good and the atmosphere welcoming. Not the place for a leisurely meal on a Saturday night more of a churn and burn– service is swift.

I hadn’t been to this restaurant for 20 years and this experience reminded me why. The interior has a great cozy atmosphere with a fantastic fireplace. The food is outdated, boring and bland. The menu was the same as 20 years ago. Our server was fantastic that is why I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1. We both went with the four course option. The pâté was unseasoned and bland. The stuffed clams came out so quick they had to be microwaved. Our salads were very fresh and unfortunately the best part of our meal. My husbands steak was ordered medium rare but came out red and cold. Swiss potatoes were mushy and bland. My cordon bleu was very bland and the baked potato was so soft, it could have possibly been yesterday’s reheated. I don’t know if the chef is afraid to season. Everything was just bland. We thought the eclairs for dessert would hopefully save them. I picked mine up and it was heavy as a baseball and burnt, which they attempted to hide with lots of chocolate. I lived in Germany for many years and was looking forward for some tasty European cooking. Unless they make some changes and I see some positive feedback I will not return.

4.4 Stars What a great place. Burning fireplace, cozy décor, the best Wiener Schnitzel I’ve ever had(and I’ve had it in Germany, Austria, and a half-dozen places in the States), and extremely reasonable prices. My wife and I will be back many times. I strongly recommend the Holstein Schnitzel, which is Wiener Schnitzel with an egg on top. Just incredible.

We recently went to a wedding at this location, the grounds are absolutely breathtaking and the food and service was wonderful, highly recommended. We had the steak tips with Caesar salad and I thought it was delicious I would strongly recommend this to anybody. If you’re looking to have a wedding with beautiful photos this is absolutely your location.

it certainly has been here for a while, one of the few places around that you can get a taste of german food… pretty busy for a wednesday night, nice looking oldish looking place(which it is), service was good and attentive, food was good but nothing spectacular, prices were really pretty reasonable, and they do offer the 4 course meal(app, salad, dinner, dessert) which is a nice touch.

I had never been to Mile Away — although I knew it was a popular place among the locals for a «nicer» place to eat. We went for a family dinner on a recent Saturday night. It was quite busy in the dining room, but the staff seemed used to the pace and was around and responsive most of the time. The dining room is quite loud and the atmosphere feels very«churn and burn» versus a leisurely, relaxed dining experience. The food was ok. I wish that I had just chosen the entrée option instead of the 4 course option — although it’s not much difference in price. The appetizer was underwhelming and the salad was drowning in dressing. I had a chicken entrée with the«famous» Swiss potatoes, which seemed to be just hash browns. For dessert I had the éclair which was fantastic — probably not made on site — but delicious non-the-less. Overall, it was fine — it is a good alternative to the southern NH chain restaurants and pizza /Chinese joints. I would come back… and certainly know what to expect.

Its been over 6 months since visiting the Mile Away, but while going through photos on my computer a particular picture brought back my memory of the place. The place in nestled on a country road in what appears to be an old farm house. The interior clean, simply decorated yet rustic. Whats great about this review is that although I forgot what I had for a main entrée, there are some very memorable details that made this place stand out to me. All dinner include salad, your choice of appetizer, entrée, vegetable and desert. We chose a wine«flight» which featured four small glasses of red wines. I’ve seen it done with beer, but never with wine. The appetizers selections were interesting and diverse. I chose the Swedish meatballs, then on to a lovely mixed green salad which did not appear to have been dumped from a premixed bag-o-greens. As I said before I forgot what my main entrée was. My vegetable choice was glazed acorn squash with golden raisins yum! Dinner was enjoyable and filling. Although desert was included I could not eat another bite. The waitress packed up our desert choice(mine was apple strudel) which tasted homemade. Excellent value!
