The dining experience at this restaurant was very disappointing and I felt as a paying customer I overpaid. Our server took drink orders and brought all, but one drink. We gave her adequate time to get the drink; however, we had to ask again for that drink. It took too long for the server to attend to our party of 4 and take our order. When we finally ordered and received our meals, one was cold, another did not have the scallops(which was on the menu) and another meal had no presentation. This meal was rice on the plate, a few veggies and some chicken. And the hostess was constantly texting and talking with a friend who obviously stopped in to chat! This hostess could have assisted the server. If you want cold meals, poor service and, by the way, dark and cold restaurant, go ahead and go on in and see what happens!

It was our first visit to Chopstix on a Thursday evening with another couple. We were hoping for an enjoyable dining experience; however, our visit was quite the contrary. On first impression, the restaurant was chilly and dark. There were about 3 other tables already dining… some with their coats on! We were seated and there was a wait before our drink orders were taken. The order consisted of two mixed drinks and two hot teas. We noticed that the waitress seemed to be working alone except for the hostess, who we noticed sat at the counter continuously texting and playing on her cell phone and occasionally answering the phone for a take-out order. She never offered the waitress any help to bus tables or ask customers for drink refills or if they needed anything. After about 20 minutes had gone by and we had never had our order taken… along with one mixed drink never having been delivered, we were contemplating leaving the restaurant. It was then that the waitress finally got to us to take our order. We then reminded her that we were waiting on the 2nd mixed drink. She took our order, then ran to the bar and hastily threw the drink together and delivered it. By that time our hot tea was cold, so a refill was delivered by what looked like a ceramic bud vase filled with lukewarm water; a 2nd trip had to be made to refill the 2nd cup of tea. We did enjoy the potstickers that we ordered as an appetizer. The two hibachi meals were delivered… not much presentation… just 3 piles of meat, veggies and rice. After a few more minutes, the crispy honey chicken was delivered. My first bite was of the broccoli, which was ice cold. I didn’t complain as we had waited quite a while and I was very hungry. We asked about the red sauce on the chicken as it looked and tasted like the red sweet and sour sauce. The waitress acknowledged that the dish was prepared correctly. She did come to our table before the entrees were delivered to tell one patron that they were out of pork and could not serve him pork-fried rice. The same gentleman was half-way through his meal and realized that he did not receive the scallops he had ordered with the chicken and scallop hibachi. He told the waitress and when he had finished his meal, the second meal with scallops arrived. He did not want it by then, so it was boxed to go. Also, the gentleman’s wife ordered a 2nd mixed drink and it never arrived. It was not pleasant watching the busy waitress running constantly while the hostess offered no help and continued to play with her phone and visit with her friend who stopped by. That along with all of the mistakes made for a not so pleasant experience. We asked where the manager on duty for that night was and the waitress said that she was in charge that night. There were probably no more than 6 small tables being served that evening, but we believe the waitress did the best she could with no help. I would chalk this up to very poor management and the food was just mediocre. One suggestion: a cast-iron teapot of hot water delivered to the table with the teabags would be a great help!!! Even though it was a slow night as we were told, the customer should not have to suffer. If things don’t improve, I would fear for their long term success. I know that we certainly do not intend to return. There are too many other Asian cuisines that are top-notch.

This restaurant was pricy, but the food and service was mediocre(at best). The pan fried wontons were good. We had the tempura, which was VERY bland. The chicken hibachi was okay but it had little to no presentation. The beef lo mein was so so. The wait staff was nice but the service was below par. I would not recommend this restaurant. It falls well short of what you should expect for dinner entres that range from $ 15 to $ 25 each.

The hibachi is just fine, not good but fine. Rice isn’t very good. They don’t have anything for kids to eat. Got cramps after eating here. It’s kitschy if that is what you are looking for. If you are looking for sushi(only ate 1 piece so I am no expert in that dept), this might be a place for you but if you are looking for a good old fashioned hibachi… move somewhere else.

We have been regular customers for years. The food is always delicious, the owner is wonderful, and it’s always enjoyable. While we do branch out once in a while, we usually order some sushi, spring rolls, miso salmon, and Mt. Fuji shrimp. Then we build from there, depending on how hungry we are. It’s a great place to stop for a quick snack, or for a full meal. The portions are good sized, and the variety on the menu always gives us options. When my son was young, they would always«fix» the chopstix so he could use them. Now, he’s proficient and can use chopstix like a pro.

When you see $$ you expect great service and food. For the service i give them a F(Fail). Lus was our waitress and either she didn’t like us or she didn’t like her job. My wife was still reading the menu when she asked for them back. She never told us her name, I had to ask. She walked away while we were still speaking, and never came back to check on us! 1st impressions are a maje or break in the restaurant business. I was not impressed with the service. The sushi was not worth the price, fell apart while dipping it and the rice was not the best I’ve had. Sorry but they get a OK from me, I won’t return.

My daughter and I have eaten here many times, and never been disappointed. We always get sushi, and have discovered our favorites: Cream Cheese wontons, Sweet Potato roll, California roll, Philly roll, and Shrimp tempura roll. The prices are very reasonable, and the quality is excellent. My daughter consistently requests that we come here for special occasions, and we plan to continue!

The food is average but there is a wide variety from sushi to hibachi items to regular Chinese. Hard not to find something you like. Only Asian restaurant in the immediate vicinity as well. First check in on Unilocal I got free dessert.

Near empty at 6:30 pm on Friday. Decent sushi and nice plates. Hibachi dinners are served to order with sheen of oily teriyaki glaze on the veggies with tasteless fried rice. For the money suggest you go elsewhere

I’ve had sushi in many places in RVA and this one was great. After living in Japan for 3 years and experiencing sushi there, I can say that this is good sushi. The staff were great and I would recommend Dining here to anyone.

This place was interesting. They have the best Philly roll that I’ve ever had in my life, and I eat sushi almost daily. It was only $ 5 for a decent sized roll too! My sister and I got some tempura roll which was pretty good. I think our waitress got confused on what we wanted to order and she gave us the $ 6 version instead of the $ 14 one, but looking back that was great for our wallets. I would rate this 4.5 stars. I would come again for sure.

Had a delicious lunch here with my parents. Am back in Maine and missing this place! The prices were very reasonable and everyone had leftovers to bring home. Very tasty sauces, fresh veggies, good variety and lots of choices on the lunch menu.

My wife and I love this place. We always get the same thing and it’s always consistent. The owner is very nice and she’s always working very hard and always comes over to greet us. One day after coming there for over a year, we decide to get something else. We went all out. Lamb lollipops, filet minion, crab wontons. It was all good. It’s was all great. Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. It’s consistently awesome, they can make anything, they have good atmosphere, and we love taking our friends there.

While I like ethnic food, I was always skeptical of fusion restaurants. I think my inner cynic always thought that only restaurants that couldn’t accel at just one type of cuisine would bother mixing cultures. All that changed with the wife initially lured me to Chopstix via a Groupon. My view on fusion restaurants was henceforth and forever changed. The ambiance here feels like an upscale sushi bar in NYC — solid black throughout with white drapes and crazy colored lights hanging from above the dining room. The effect is much better at night, so I’d recommend dinner service for that reason. Very cool look and feel. The menu is, quite frankly, all over the place — but in a good«Man, what in the world am I going to order?» kinda way. They have a fairly diverse sushi menu with a wide assortment of rolls and sashimi, ranging from the fairly vanilla(California, Rainbow, etc) to the unique(Midlothian Roll: Shrimp tempura, spicy crabmeat and avocado rolled with soy nori, topped with seaweed salad and spicy salmon ball with a baby spring mix salad), all prepared in house and within view. Great stuff! They also have a combination Chinese & Japanese section of the menu with well-known favorites from both genres(Broccoli Chicken, Kung Pao Beef, Honey and Sesame Chicken, and the full gamut of hibachi dishes). Incremental to that, they also serve a swath from Thai menus as well(Singapore Street Noodles, Coconut Curry, etc). Between the wife and I, we have sampled cross-sections of the entire menu and the worst thing we’ve tried was still OK. The BEST thing on the menu is the Crispy Cheese Wonton appetizer. Crabmeat and cream cheese wonton, topped with sliced fuji apples & honey wasabi sauce. These things are off the hook, out of the boat, and halfway up the river — out of this world! I could probably drink the honey wasabi by the bucket — think honey mustard made with wasabi instead of mustard. Yummo!!! The big detractor for me is portion size — the entrees are a bit on the small side, and a few that I’ve tried(e.g. Thai Coconut Curry Delight) were more filler than meat — by a lot. For a $ 16 entrée, that’s a bit of a bummer. That said, even on the small dishes, my biggest complaint is that I want more, which I suppose is a good problem to have.

My first visit was somewhat enjoyable, mostly due to the friends I was with. If it hadn’t been for enjoying the coversations I would have spoken up about the wait time for the food. Many of the other Guests came in after us and left before we got our food. The atmosphere is pleasant, especially after sun down so you can enjoy the ambiance of the lighting. I ordered Tuna Sushi and Anger Dragon, both were very tasty. The others with me ordered Apps and said they were big enough they could have made a meal of them, my wife’s main course is in our refrigerator. The food was good enough that I’d go back.
